Especially for the low rollers who roll so low, it's effectively not gambling

I mean 20 or 50 dollars a day risked. I am talking about not having spent up to 300 dollars on play total in 3 trips and happy like that. How in vegas name is that accomplished?

 

My wife and I fall into this category. I like to play VP, but I am cheap. I play a quarter a hand. I don't buy into the "play max bet" philosophy because I may get a royal a few years from now. IMO, that's losing money 5 times as fast while chasing a rainbow. My wife OTOH, is psycho cheap/frugal or whatever other adjective you can come up with to describe her ability to squeeze a nickel "until the buffalo craps". She like the slots and will quit when ahead, as will I. We both enjoy playing, but enjoy winning more. Also, neither of us drink, so we don't make alchohol influenced decisions.

Okay, so we don't drink and gamble very little. Why do we go to Vegas, you ask? Well, we think it is the coolest place in the world and it works for us.

 

That would be us.

We get on a penny machine and bet a PENNY, not a dollar, which kind of defeats the purpose of a penny machine, no?

The entertainment factor is the same.

 

Nice post! It's all about staying within one's budget and one's comfort level. One can't let the posts of these "Noir knuckleheads" lead ya to believe that's the only way to do Vegas... you see how happy they seem?

My parents were always more about the shows, food and the sights then shoving thousands of dollars into machines or across tables. I spend a little more than they did, but I still "hate the feeling of losing more than I like the thrill of winning", which I don't think is a good gambler's mentality.

Living here and having employed many people who couldn't control it, I've seen much of the ugly side of gambling, so while it's a part of the Vegas "experience" for sure, for me it's not ALL about that.

 

1 penny per bet??? If you get only 1 drink a day you're coming out ahead!

Seriously though I thought those penny machines had minimums of 20 or 30 or more cents. I don't play them but my wife does and I've sat with her sometimes and that's always what I see on the machines.

Can you really just bet 1 penny? Hard to imagine why the casinos would allow that!

 

Sure you can!

Some have a minimum bet of 30 cents...we just walk by those.

 

I'll often bet pennies to get to an even number when I want to cash out or leave the machine with $0. I've also played down to a penny and cashed out just to have one of those slips for a scrapbook.

I'll play $.25 VP but I play the buck and a quarter. My daily limit has always been about a hundred bucks a day and I do pretty good at that, most days staying under because I hate giving away money I worked so hard for. if I find I'm going through $ too quick I'll go walk around outside, drive somewhere, or go shopping.

The trip in a week was going to have a limit of about $400+ a day but I went and bought a new camera lens to bring with me. So now I'm down back to my hundred a day or so. LOL I invested in a car this time so my mornings and perhaps even evenings will be spent taking pictures instead of gambling, so I'm likely to have a LOT of fun when I can gamble and drink and also keep a lid on losses.

 

I don't gamble at all. Does that make me a "No Roller"? I have no desire to gamble. I learned a long time ago that when it comes to gambling, I am simply not lucky. I view gambling as a negative expectation and I hate losing my money.It's that old saying "I don't gamble because I hate losing more than I enjoy winning". That's me. Gambling simply does not excite me. It's hard for me to play a game where all the odds are against me.

But, as always,to each his own. I don't judge.

 

I dont go with the intent purpose pf gambling.

I view gambling as fun, not a profity maker for me.

My objective 100% of the time while gambling is to put in a small amount and walk away with some, hopefully a larger amount.

I also would like a cocktail so i will loctae not only the right tyoe of penny machine but also one in the CW's direct line of fire.

I put in $5, no more and if its a penny I will play 9 lines, 1 per line. That gets you enough coverage for a bonus if the game has it and covers the major lines. Any more then that is just a waste.

max bet is for suckers. Sure its the only way to hit the big jackpot but i can live without that, i would really like a bit of play and a beer.

If I get up to $7, I cash out, even if its on the first spin.

If I get down to at the least $2, I cash out so I never walk away feeling like a total loser. Thats what gets you in a casino, the emotional feeling that a simple machine the dumbest person in the world can play bested you. Thats when you feel compelled to pump money back into it get get bask at it in a way and to get even.

If I am up to %7 or so I will cash out and put in a new $5 bill and go through the same route. Hopefully i have a cocktail by this time and can settle into a rythmn.

It doesnt have to be such small potatoes, you could do the same with $100 if you liked but just keep in mind the objective of the casino is to turn the money in your wallet into a yacht payment for the ceo.

I would rather i walk out with a few slips of paper and a light head from the drinks.

I usually tip more money to the cw's then I play through the machines. i value their service more.

 

Yeah, that's us too. We're just cheap. We see Vegas as a nice vacation.

We bumped up our gambling budget this past trip. A whopping $20 a day each. I know, we're out of control. Some days we didn't hit that amount because we were doing other things. I start out with $5 or $10, it depends if I have a $5 on me. I play penny slots, not the minimum and not the maximum. Or video poker as high as a quarter and do the maximum on that. My husband does the same. I still suck at video poker but my husband has taken to it. I usually lose and he wins. I have won as much as $150 on penny slots. Which thrills me to no end. I cash out my winnings. I have only ever lost my winnings once while very drunk.

I also play a little game where I pick something out at the gift shop. Nothing too expensive, but, a luxury like a purse or a piece of jewellery. And I try to win the money for it. That's worked for me probably 80% of the time. I start with $5 or $10 and I cash out when I have that amount. That's another thrill. Hey, people who are easy to please are the happiest people in the world.

If the drink service is good I consider that a win. If we want to drink, I try to place myself on the cw's route, put a stack of $1 on the machine in front of me and generally kiss her a$$ as much as possible so she keeps bringing the drinks my way.

 

LOL Lola. I found that in the mornings when I want to drink my Kahlua and cream as those go quick, I give the girl a $5 or so and tell her to keep me filled. I normally get two back and then she always brings one as a backup.

 

The more I learn about Vegas the more I realize how many other things you can do there besides gamble.

The culinary adventures in Vegas is astounding. There are so many places to experience foods in many varieties and from many cultures. This alone is worth a trip to visit! Price ranges can go from astronomical to dirt cheap.

The entertainment offerings is second to none in my opinion. Many different shows and venures that again range from super expensive to free in some instances. Where can you beat that, lol!

Sight-seeing, pool lounging, lavish room amenities, people watching, nite clubbing, Vegas has it all.

I guess people are willing to spend more of their potential "gambling" money on things like these instead of playing slot machines and table games.

So even though they gamble so little, I would think a significant amount of their hard-earned money is spend doing other things. It's really easy to fill up you vacation time in Vegas doing this.

 

I love hearing from people who go to Las Vegas and don't gamble. It reminds me why I go there. The low cost resorts, the nice weather, the pools, shows, and restaurants are the reason we take vacations in Las Vegas. For you to have gone 50+ trips and not be a frequent gambler is unusual and commendable.

We keep within certain limits and try to limit our trips(remember I said try) , We have a lot of friends who have six figure pensions and can afford to be Diamond or Black Card members and thats fine with us .We werent police or fire chiefs or school supers and we didnt own a business or whatever. I can still buy my own sandwich,I dont need to get one free in the Diamond Club.

 

I am probably the poster child for this type of "Gambler". I don't really gamble very much when I go out there, that is unless I have a coupon or some free play. My last trip out to vegas on my own time I gambeld a total of 15 dollars in free slot play from the el cortez. My last trip on the airlines dime I gambled a total of 1 dollar.

I will sit at a machine and order up from the cocktail waitress. Usually a beer which would cost me 5-7 dollars at the bar or a double jack n coke to get my moneys worth. I do tip....but usually a dollar each unless I'm looking to have alot more than one brought to me. I plink away 1 penny at a time until either the dollar is gone, or I'm so hammered I have to stop.

I have made traveling to vegas on the cheapy cheap an art form. Especially since for the last 7 years I haven't paid one single red cent for airfare. I stay in hotels that are usually 25 dollars a night or less. I eat cheap steak dinners, I treat myself to in and out which we don't have on the east coast.

My next trip I plan on redeeming 50 dollars in free slot play from the El Cortez by cashing my tax refund check. I don't see myself having any problems only using the 50 dollars in free slot play (which I'll play on the video blackjack machines and try and play through the 50 dollars only 1 time and cash out with as much of it as possible) and then walking away. If I redeem all 50 dollars it should pay for my 2 or 3 nights in town.

I love "gambling" in Vegas!

 

i also play "cheap" in las vegas
i budget about 100.00 per day but spend only 1/2 or less
this upcoming trip i plan on taking 1000.00 but also plan on bringing at least half back home
it may not make sense to some but for me it does....
i play as cheaply as possible and still ahve lots of fun
i rent a car , so i do not pay all those cab fares and still get to go where i want when i want
this also lets me go off strip to eat at cheaper places , i refuse to pay 45.00 for a buffet when i can go somewhere off strip and pay 15.99(to me that is 30.00 saved)
i have just as much fun at a 3.00 craps table instead of a 10.00 table

 

All these posts sound like me and my wife. I'm new on these boards and will be our first real vacation since we've been together and we also don't drink and are not gamblers (maybe put a five in one of the penny slots here and there).

What I like about Vegas and want to show my wife is all the good food and buffets and free stuff like the bellagio fountains etc.....

We will walk and take lots of pictures and go to Hoover Dam and visit her family in Henderson.

Vegas to me is just amazing to take it all in and just have fun!

I spent two weeks in Vegas for school, had a car, gambled and drank every night. By the end I think I was down 300-400 bucks at the most. I played as small as I could get and had a great time. I mixed in other stuff as well so it wasn't a big deal. A larger bankroll would've just meant higher bets per hand.

 

Well I guess Ill be a low roller then......see low I can go...lmmfyao
