I completed my diamond in two days at Horseshoe Bossier City by playing $5 VP for the first time. I set my sites on getting at least 2500 points (1000 hands) plus the 5000 equalled a little over 15500 in two days. It worked out very well.

I will be at the Rio in two weeks and was wondering where is the best place to place $5 VP JOB or Bonus poker? I found the payouts different within the Horseshoe so I was thinking same would be true in Vegas.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

All of the CET properties other then Harrahs and the Quad have $5 9/6 JoB which is the best game available in CET properties in las vegas.

Several of the CET casinos have a short pay on the straight flush to avoid handpays. I have found Caesars the best option for full pay $5 JOB.

Out of curiosity, what was the required bankroll to hit those numbers. I was thinking about adjusting my play this year with CET to maximize comps and minimize risk. Higher level VP at JOB seems viable, but I am guessing at least a 4K bankroll would be required to
    avoid risk of ruin.

I've been playing exactly this, $5 max-coin JoB, and 4k is feasible to get the 50k coin-in but not with a lot of confidence. You need to play 2000 hands and 4k represents 800 credits or 160 hands at $25/spin. Obviously you'll get many more spins than that but a few bad streaks can wipe you out. I've dropped 100-200 credits in practically a straight line a couple times. JoB has lower volatility but if you hit a bad streak that works against you too because the only way to get back up is to hit a royal or a streak of other big hands. Just hitting quads or even a straight flash probably won't save you.

I don't know how these guys arrived at these numbers but you can check out the require bankroll numbers here and for $5 JoB it lists with 5k you'll average only 666 hands. That sounds low to me but again I don't know how they arrived at their numbers:

I brought 5k but fortunately never had a real bad streak. It was my first time and it can be a little unnerving when you drop 2 or 3 hundred dollars without a hand.

I switched between JOB and Bonus for variety. To get the 2500 points for the day, $25,000 coin in, I figured $25 hand or 1000 hands which does not take that long.

After hitting the 2500, I switched to lower denom DDL and table games. They only had three $5 machines with 9/5 JOB. The other 4 were 8/5 at the bar.

I assume the $5 machines are usually in the high limit areas but was wondering if they are sometimes out on the floor.

I've only seen them in the High Limit areas and even there, not many. I believe Caesars has the most.

I don't have the stamina to keep this up when I'm not hitting. Every trip I plan on doing it again and usually chicken out.

Thanks, I just looked on VPFree2.com but the info might be old. I see there are not that many but Caesars has the most. I'm staying at the Rio but plan to be at Ballys for some Game Show Event so will try there the first day. After that I will try Caesars although I've never really played there.

I was fortunate the first time and hope I don't chicken out as well

I love the Wizard's site for just about everything except this table. Risk of ruin isn't an easy number to calculate without a computer and writing an iterative process for each number of hands. So what he did was essentially assume you want to play an infinite (or at least indefinite) number of hands. That's why his numbers are so huge. Literally in the millions of dollars for a $5 player at any decently conservative risk of ruin. It's a lifetime+lifetime+lifetime+... "required" bankroll.

The other problem is that at least for JoB he only shows it with different levels of cashback and the lowest starting at 0.5%. But at MGM casinos for instance the cashback is only 0.2% if you assume EC+PP is 100% equivalent to cash. Which a lot of us would but a lot of high limit players wouldn't since they're fully RFB and don't necessarily need their ECs (PP is always equivalent to cash though).

Pardon my ignorance but what does 0.2% cash mean? Could you put it in terms of what it means for $5 JOB, $25,000 coin in to get the 2500 points per day?

    Thanks if advance.

I'm just considering the total value of express comps and pointplay to be cashback. Since for a machine player pointplay is as good as cash, and depending on your use the ECs may be as good as cash too.

For VP (ignoring tier bonuses) you get 1 cent in EC + 1 cent in PP for every $10 wagered. So 25k coin-in would earn $25 in ECs and $25 in PP.....or 0.2% cashback on your coin-in. With the tier bonuses its higher, as high as 40% more if you're Noir so 0.28% cash back.

All of this assumes you consider ECs and PP to be equivalent to cash. I think any machine player should consider PP that way (unless you decide to never gamble again) but opinions on ECs will vary depending on how useful they are to you.

Most VP software programs can do this calculation.

Using VPW: With a bankroll of $5K and a target of 2K hands you have a 5.28% chance of going broke. You will lose money ~68% of the time. With a $4K session bankroll your RoR increases to 14.39%. To be statistical confident (3 sigma) in not going broke you need a session bankroll of ~$7K. And of course this all assumes perfect play.

For 8/5 BP you have a 9.69% chance of going broke with $5K. You need a $7700 session bankroll to be statistically confident in not busting.

This is more useful than what the Wizard has. I agree with Kickin in that I don't find that particular table on the Wizard's site particularly useful.

As an alternative if you are willing to make a quick trip to Reno you can knock this out in two days and at a lot lower risk of ruin.

They have full pay $1 machines that are 3 Play (you can also find 1 Play machines).

At 3 Play x 400 hands an hour you are talking about $6,000 in coin-in per hour.

That would mean you need a little over 4 hours a day for two days to get DIAD.

If you remove Royal Flushes you are still only talking about an expected loss of $1220.

$5k still might not be enough at $1 machines but you are going to have a lot better chance than you would with $5.

A much better way yet would be 10 play $.25 machines (think Mississippi or AC).

At that level you are looking at $5,000 coin-in per hour or about 5 hours a day to get DIAD.

Does the EC + PP info you are referencing apply to CET also? I have seen EC used in MGM or MLife discussions, but I am only familiar with CET. :confused2:

The equivalent to ECs at CET are Reward Credits (RC). It works out to 1 cent per $10 coin-in for VP players there, no additional Point Play. So I guess you can think of it as 0.1% cash back.

I calculate Caesars properties as the worst of all of the casinos with cash back/freeplay at .05% based on information on vpfree2. Comps are at 0.1%. One or the other, you choose.

MGM properties are 0.1% for Earned Comps and Freeplay to add up to 0.2%, but I focus on cash back/freeplay.

The best at 0.3% cash back/freeplay are M Resort, South Point, and Station Casinos.

I did play $5 9/6 JoB VP ($25/deal) at the Rio high limit slot room for two sessions last weekend (before I calculated CB) and earned over 15,000 points with $500 buy-in each session.

    Cheers

If you played a ten line machine (or a 50 line machine for that matter) you'd have the same expected value, but your variance would be lower meaning your risk of ruin would also be lower. So if you were on a limited bankroll, you might be better off playing 10 lines and lowering your bet per line to get to the same coin in as your single line game.
