I am planning a trip for my husband's 50th birthday, I don't want to spend alot on a hotel as you only really sleep there. It is WAY cheaper is I book a package, I can get a package for $1700 and airfare alone is $1600.

This is our first time to vegas, would you stay there if you wanted to spend most of your money in your budget on other things in vegas?

$1,600 for airfare! Where are you flying from?

You couldn't pay me to stay at CC, much less stay there for a special bday celebration. Please check out other hotel options. When are you going and where are you flying from?

I meant to add, that in reality you do a lot more than sleep in your "home" casino/hotel. You will probably be eating some meals there at least, having a drink before you go out, etc. CC is filled with many unsupervised kids, day and night. I know there are several people on this board that will disagree with me about CC, but the general consensus is to not stay there. Even Excalibur is a big step up and I'm not a fan of them either, lol. A lot of people will chime in to give suggestions if you give us more information.

i agree and disagree with this.

    Here is my Vegas experiences:

    1) 1st trip - stay at Villa Roma (between Strip and Convention Center). No casino, no restaurants...everything we did was at a different place, just slept at Villa Roma. Rooms were cheap and big.

    2) 2nd trip - stay at Villa Roma one night, other nights at LVH. Again Stayed there because it was cheap, didn't eat, use the pool or gable there.

    3) 3rd Trip - stay at Flamingo (Fab Room), ate there a bit, loved the pool, gambled there a bit. Still walked around a lot to see the sights.

    4) 4th Trip - stay at Flamingo (Go room), ate there a bit, loved the pool, gambled there a bit more. Still walked around a lot to see the sights.

    5) 5th Trip - stay at Flamingo (Fab room), ate there a bit, loved the pool, gambled there a bit. Still walked around a lot to see the sights.

Your home base casino can be just that, a home base - and you can have a great time doing that.

But if you want you home casino to be more than just a place to lay your head at the end of the night, then I wouldn't do Circus Circus (based on your age - it would be ok for a couple of guys in their 20's or families).

You should still pop in there and wander around, and find some cheap gambling, but probably not where you want to stay.

I agree that the hotel room is not THE most important thing.

But, the hotel/location can be very important. Otherwise, people would stay at the Motel6 10 miles from the strip.

Circus Circus does a great business, but generally, it is not a place I would remotely suggest for a 50 year old. Get closer to the strip.

Meanwhile, where are you flying from and what dates? And, are those dates firm. Maybe we can help out there as well.

I am one who pretty much does not care about the room I have stayed at IP(quad) many times in the past excaliber ect all the way up to Aria, Bellagio. If saving money is important I still would avoid Circus Circus due to the location. It is on the strip but at the far end away from everything and you will have a long walk or pay for the difference in a cab fares. You should be able to get something close in cost at a more central location which will end up costing you less over the course of your trip when you figure in transportation.

Are you flying on a holiday weekend? $800/person seems high even for the east coast. If your dates are flexible by a day or two you could save yourself a few hundred dollars.

As for Circus Circus, the rate you're being quoted is almost certainly the manor room, which is not much more than a motel room. It's also not likely including the $10/night resort fee, so you'll have to add that to the price as the fee is mandatory.

although you are getting a good deal for flight and room, as compared to just flight for 1600, I think staying there might be a mistake for a persons first time in Las Vegas. The biggest issue with CC, is the fact that it is in a dead zone, the only other close casino is the Riviera which is also an older casino like CC. I can at times deal with the run down facilities at CC, as well as the kids, but I just hate the location. ITs an ok place to visit but no where I can recommend anyone to stay unless you have a real reason to be there for an extended amount of time! Keep looking around, hopefully you can find something further south on the strip for a decent price!

I just did a quick search for flights in your dates on Travelocity and came up with 558 per person. That savings should allow you more wiggle room in regards to a hotel. Good luck!

Another for NO, absolutely not, for Circus Circus.

For your trip Vegas trip and trying to be conservative with funds, try Harrahs, Flamingo, Ballys, or the Quad. The Quad (formerly the Imperial Palace if you're doing research) will be the least expensive. It's not fancy but is a great location. All of these have a great location in Center Strip. There is no resort fee.

Monte Carlo or Excalibur should be the least expensive of MGM group. These have a daily resort fee so check if this pays for things you will really use before you compare the prices. Luxor will be lower priced too but is still enough out of the central areas not to be an ideal choice.

Thanks so much for the info.......I am kind of stressed!!!!

I am not going to book CC, and I am continuing to look. I was not thinking about going through the states because we were meeting up with DH family in toronto but have decided after looking on travelocity that it is much cheaper to go to PHL so that is what I am looking at now.

Another question, I want to take him to a nice steak house for his special day, what do you recommend?

There are many great steakhouses in Vegas. I totally concur with the Steakhouse at Circus Circus. It is old style Vegas.

You might want to ask this question when you have decided where you're staying. You might want to walk there.

If you are looking at Caesars Entertainment properties, I would eliminate the Rio for your first trip. You want to be in the heart of the action. Forgot to mention this earlier.

I'd rather stay at Rio VS CC any day! The free shuttle comes fast and often and it will drop you off at Harrahs to explore the Northern end of the strip or Ballys to hit up the South. I stayed there once and found its actually easier VS staying on the strip and walking so much to see it all!

At CC you are on an island, you can get a 24/7 buss pass but those stop everywhere along the strip and take forever. And its $16.00 for a pair of passes. You are too far removed from a monorail station to make that worth it and a cab every day will kill the savings you got by staying there!

The Steakhouse at Circus Circus is very good. We ate there over SuperBowl weekend. I had the Filet and my wife had the Prime Rib and both were very good. I like the fact that you get a salad and a side with the meal. Most other steak houses in Vegas charge for the sides.

I stayed at cc for our first trip. I went with my nieces and nephew. That is why we stayed there.. I didnt mind it. But i told myself when i go back to vegas i wouldnt stay there again. This time we are staying at Stratosphere . My 2 cents is if ur going with kids its a great place. Other than that u can find other hotels just as cheap and nicer. Enjoy your stay
