Along the lines Of the "Worst Room" Thread :
    .
    #1....
My most surprisingly nice room was at The Palace Station.
    .
Many years ago they had just refurbished some of the
    top floors.
I had a brand new room w/ floor to ceiling windows +
a view of mountains + The Rio in the distance.
    New bed + curtains.
    The room was cheap, too.
    I think I was "comp'd" a few nights.
    .
    #2....
    The Stratosphere
Again, I got a newly refurbished room ( several years ago )
    Wow !
The bed + spreads were as nice as any of the high end Strip hotels.
    .
    I guess "Timing is everything.":nworthy:

A couple years ago went on a spur of the moment LV trip and took advantage of my COMP nights and some near free nights for friends at Harrah's. We all got basic rooms, but were upgraded to "deluxe" for free at check in. The rooms were very nice, and the bed was amazingly comfortable. My friends room even had one of the small balconies that worked perfectly for a quick cigar toke.

I’ve never actually stayed somewhere I thought would be a s***hole but turned out to be a “decent” room. But I have stayed a few places that I thought would just be “a bed, toilet and shower” that actually turned out to be pretty nice rooms.

The first was the Flamingo GO room. It was when they first renovated those rooms, several years ago. I had stayed in a regular Flamingo room before and I thought it was borderline nasty. So, I wasn’t expecting much from the GO room. I was very pleasantly surprised. It was a cool room. Neat tech, funky bathroom, nice modern style. And while the rooms are tiny (compared to any of the newer places on the strip), the space is used quite well, IMO.

The other was T.I. It was about a year and a half ago. I had decided to take a late flight out to Vegas a day earlier than planned, so I needed a room for one extra night. I had an offer from T.I. that included some resort credit, so I figured I’d give them a try. I wouldn’t say that there is anything particularly special about their rooms. They’re just pretty “solid” all around – decent design, comfy bed, nice bathroom. I would compare them favorably to a standard room at Mirage, which is often significantly more expensive. I was also impressed with the service I received at T.I. It might not have been Encore, but it sure was a lot better service than I’ve received at many more expensive places on the strip.

While I wouldn't say that I've ever stayed anywhere expecting a dump, I'd say the biggest surprise was the night I stayed at the Nugget downtown for a change of pace. Upgraded to a Rush Tower shortly after renovation I believe and it's as nice as just about any room on the strip.

Eastside Cannery in 2009. For $29/nite, got a corner suite with hot tub, living room area, large bed, etc.

Had to be at the Tuscany. Got what they called at the time a junior suite for $39 a night a couple years back. We were shocked by how nice it was and the space.

When we took my parents-in-law to the Barbary Coast. When we booked we told them the room was $35/night and they said "well, as long as it's clean." When we checked in the front desk gave them a room at the front of the property that looked straight down Las Vegas Boulevard. My mother-in-law literally screamed when she opened the door and saw the view "This is $35?!? We spent $200 in Washington and it was half this size!" Years later, whenever anyone mentions Vegas, the first thing my father-in-law brings up is that $35 room at Barbara's Hotel.

In 2008 I stayed at the Riviera in one of their remodeled King rooms. It was really nice and definitely exceeded my expectations. It may very well have been a suite it was so big and brand new!

I was surprised by the Paradise suite at the Trop. I really had no idea what to expect. It was huge and very comfy. Free Wifi and Keurig coffee when your room was comped as well.

Many years ago Harvey's Lake Tahoe was my place to gamble. I would usually get a comp room, but just the standard room. I checked in one day and the desk clerk said she was going to put me in a nice suite. I thought, OK you are going to give me a room with a couch, big deal. When I got to the room(#1700) at end of hall, I knew this was not a room with a couch. When I opened the door I still couldn't see the room. It was a long hallway. When I got to the end of the hallway I saw a living room with wall to wall stereo and TV unit, dining room. large wet bar, sliding door to large patio overlooking Edgewood golf course and Lake Tahoe. Bedroom was hugh with electric curtains. Bathrooms(one of two) had steam room and tub with 50 candles around it.
I inquired at VIP services how I got the room and could I get it in the future. They said they could not issue that room to me. It was the clerks decision. I did not know check in clerks had that authority.

I think that it's safe to say that any suite at any property, is going to be a pretty nice room, especially if you're comparing it to an entry level room somewhere else.

Obviously they're all much bigger than typical rooms, they are made with a lot more bells and whistles, they're going to be updated more frequently to keep the higher end guests happy, and typically are going to have a lot less wear and tear because they're occupied less frequently and are less prone to having guests trash them.

The Golden Gate. I booked it last year, about this time because it was the absolute cheapest package from where I live(Saskatoon, Canada). It was cheap enough that I figured we would stay there for the first 3 nights, then I booked the Rio for a night, and the Plaza for the last 2 nights. I requested a room that looked on to Fremont as I figured we might as well get the full experience if we were staying here.
Anyway, as the trip drew closer I began to worry(after reading some reviews) about the size and condition of the rooms. I was pretty sure I would be fine with whatever, but I was taking my wife and didn't want to end up in a dump. We were pleasantly surprised when we checked in.
The staff there were super friendly, it took us about 30 seconds to get from our room to Fremont and the room itself, while small as advertised was extremely well appointed. Super comfortable bed, nice flat-screen, Keurig coffee maker, nice toiletries. The best part though, was the windows all had shutters without glass, so you could open all of them up sit in your room and watch the bands.
It gave the small room an awesome open air patio feel, next best thing to a patio.
Loved the Golden Gate, want to try the new suites which look pretty sweet at $108 a night. One word of warning, this room is ideal if you are planning to stay up until at least 2am. This is when they slightly turn down the music to a level you can pass out too. If you are staying on the strip, and want to hang out on Fremont for a night, book a $30 dollar room and use it as your party home-base for the night. If you end up not being able to get back, you have a place to crash.

Last August I convinced the wife to take a roadtrip from Texas and hit some CET casinos on the Great Race for Rewards. Our first stop was the Grand Casino in Biloxi after about 8 hours in the car. I asked the clerk at check-in for a high floor with a view of the ocean since my wife loves the beach. Going up to the room I noticed we were on the top floor but the biggest surprise was once we got to room 1238 was that it was the Presidential Suite. It was awesome

Gold Coast Premium room. I knew that it was a remodeled room but it was fairly modern in decor and smartly planned out. I think they must have used the same people who designed the Spa Tower at Blue Chip casino, which is probably my favorite. I almost thought I was in a different hotel until I saw the plastic ice bucket in the bathroom!

When we booked our trip last year for april, my brother booked him and his wife at Ballys. So we did too, for the first 2 of 4 nights. Then the weekend rates kicked in so I shopped around and found the El Cortez Cabana Suites. $50 something for 2 nights, total. I figured it can't be that bad. I was way off in my assessment- the place is wonderful. My brother and sister in law laughed when they heard what we were paying, telling me it was probably a shit hole. They came down and checked it out, and 3 months later my brother spent 6 nights there himself he liked it so much.

Ha! Pretty sure that's the same room my wife and I stayed in several times! The floor right under the restaurant. One of our friend's son was the head bellman at Harvey's and once or twice a year he'd hook us up in that room for a night or two out. This was the mid-90's We only live 15 miles from there and it was always a slow Tuesday or Wednesday kinda thing. We'd pay a couple hundred dollars and stay for a couple nights. It was the first time I'd seen heated towel bars and having breakfast on that patio in the morning was INCREDIBLE.

My wife can dump some $$$ in a casino, so they did OK... I'd forgotten about that.

Whatever year I got married in Vegas. Booked a grand suite at The STRAT for $80 a night. That was one large space, which wound up being too big. I'm not sure I ever got to sit in any of the furniture.

The other was when the new Alladin was first built. Couldn't believe how large the bathrooms were. Seemed more than half the size of the regular room part.

I was happy with my room at the IP, especially after hearing so much bad things about it.
It was clean, spacious and quiet, and I really enjoyed having a balcony as well!
I probably won't stay there again, but not because of a bad experience.
