I get a ton of overtime in November, so I'm considering a solo trip for a few days the week before Christmas when prices are lower. (LOL Haven't even made it on my FIRST trip yet and I'm already thinking of going again!) So, for all you ladies out there, anyone ever take a solo trip? I have no problem traveling alone, I've done it before...just wondering how it is being solo and a woman in Vegas. Thanks!

Just as an FYI, that week Vegas is literally dead. If you're traveling alone, you're most likely going to find yourself not only alone, but without many people to chat up either (if that's your thing).

I've been out there with a group of guys before and it was a good time, but during the week we would literally be 6 of maybe 25-35 people at all the table games in nearly each casino we went to. It did pick up on the weekend though. It's great if your on a budget though as you can usually get a nicer room than usual, have no problem getting into restaurants, can easily navigate the strip, and flights are usually cheap. But if you go that time, just don't expect the usual Vegas "vibe". Oh and also many of the shows go dark at that time, so you may be limited in your options there too.

To give you an idea of the difference between that week and an average week, upon arrival and making our way out to the cab line, not only was there no line, but all the cabs were sitting there waiting for a fare, with their cabbies standing outside chatting. We got the first cab and left and had checked into the hotel 25 minutes after touching down. That's a record that I will probably never beat. You'll get a better idea of what it's normally like after your first trip.

Hey, that's just fine with me! LOL I have no problem being alone...as long as the casinos, restaurants, and stores are open, I'm good! :) Thanks for the info!

Michelle, I've taken a solo trip to Vegas and really enjoyed it. My two favorite things are gambling and relaxing at the spa, which in my opinion are best enoyed alone anyway. Plus, other gamblers and dealers are generally friendly and easy to talk to. Going with my husband is still my preference because I feel like I get the best of both worlds - alone time for gambling and a partner for story-telling at meal times, but overall I found that "being solo and a woman in Vegas" was rather enjoyable. Enjoy!

I LOVE my solo trips. Not that I don't enjoy trips with my BF, but a solo trip is all about you. I eat when I want and where I want. I sleep when I want. I gamble when I want. I sit in the room and read when I want. Can you say "me, me, me" :).

Here's a little article about women going solo to Vegas -

    http://solofriendly.com/one-for-vegas/

And there's another thread in this section not too far down on someone wondering about doing solo trips and how to manage them.

I have a recurring business conference in Vegas every other year in December and think that it's a great season to be there - but it can be very low season with some shows closed for vacations (Penn and Teller and Love are shows dark in early December - at least whenever I was there). It can be a little chilly and depending on the trends downright cold - although they do run the LV Marathon in early December.

I prefer doing solo trips when I am going to be there only a couple / few days - I empty my bucket list of all the things I have wanted to do (with no negotiation) and never stay long enough to miss the company of friends or family. I can always make friends for the evening at the tables, machines or restaurants....

Will also chime in as a solo female traveler -- I really like going to LV alone. I somehow find it incredibly relaxing despite all the chaos. It's such a departure from the craziness of my job that I love going after a particularly busy work period.

Just to warn you, many restaurants close for a week or so (possibly longer) during December. There will still be plenty of variety but there's a chance that places you want to go to will be closed.

My last trip to Vegas was solo and I have booked another one for this year.

I love traveling solo, but at first I didn't consider Las Vegas the best destination for a woman to travel alone. It just seemed men's domain and that the women who are there alone are either working, trying to sell their body or stuck to a slot machine. Also, everything is so immense and on a much bigger scale, so you don't see the same faces every day - at breakfast, the swimming pool or hotel bar - like you do in your hotel at other destinations.

But now I found my way and I'm so looking forward to my coming trip! The best thing about Las Vegas is, it's just never boring, like a 24/7 real life soap! Even if you don't have anyone to talk to, you can entertain yourself day and night, just by people watching and cruising the Strip with the amazing resorts and casinos. And for company, to have a chat and share experiences, I arrange to meet up with friends from previous trips and people I met on the board.

Will your coming first trip also be solo or with company?

Well, getting off work right before Christmas will probably be impossible, so if I go, I will be going January 4-6, 2014. Harrah's already has great rates for those nights!
