So a host at MGM Grand that has been trying to woo me for a couple months now sent em an email last night offering me a comped two bedroom skyloft during the first weekend of March Madness. I think he's crazy! I don't see how in the world my play justifies that kind of upfront comp (especially since I played a bit less than usual on my last trip in January). But screw it, if he's offering, I am taking!

And if I am going to get a skyloft, I want to do it right. I've perused the skyloft website a little bit to see what comes with it, but I've always found it more useful to simply ask people that have experienced it. What comes with the skyloft that I should definitely take advantage of (besides a room with a view)? Not sure if they will ever offer me something like this again, so I want to take full advantage!

The SkyLofts are a great experience. I've stayed in one once, and while it wasn't the newest suite I've ever stayed in, it was definitely one of the biggest and best.

Make sure you take them up on the offer to pick you up at the airport in the Rolls Ghost. That's an experience in itself.

Your room will have a personal butler (although they may change from day-to-day / shift-to-shift). They will do many things for you - make you coffee, turn down your bed, draw your bath, unpack/pack your clothes, order you food from on-property restaurants (and bring it to you), take your clothes to get dry cleaned / washed / pressed / etc. Ours brought us a PS3 to play Madden football when we were there (near the Superbowl time of year a few yrs ago I believe). I gave them one nice tip per day (instead of a million small ones every time I saw them).

You get a dedicated SkyLoft concierge who was able to get me the best seats at a very popular restaurant (off property, but still in the MGM family) the same day. One of the best at Bellagio with the best fountain view table. Make sure you use the concierge to book your show and restaurant reservations.

The shower in your bathroom could fit 12 people. Get 12 of your closest friends to take a shower with, or at least enjoy it solo with the steam and other crazy things it does. It rains, steams, and I love waking up to this.

In room, the technology is fantastic, the tv's and sound systems and the remote controls (with door camera to see whos knocking - right from the remotes/phones)... cool stuff.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a ton. You'll love them though.

I think the question that needs to be asked here is....

Do they have a robot butler?

Sorry for straying from the topic but what is your play like? In your last TR you said you were rated at $385 avg bet for not a lot of hours. I thought the skylofts comps started much higher. My play locally is less but in Vegas not too far below yours so I'm curious. You mentioned being wooed by hosts at multiple high end properties at your play so you must be doing something right -- I never thought hosts at places like that would make much effort to go after people unless they're at a couple thousand avg bet at minimum.

I don't know if I am doing anything right in their eyes (other than playing frequently). But I agree, I think I am being overcomped (especially considering it is MM) and did not expect that kind of offer. The January trip was smaller bets and fewer hours than the few trips before it. I think the avg bet for the several trips before January ranged between $700 and $1200 a hand. My play is just not consistent, but clearly I have developed some sort of pattern that interests somebody. I think they are overcomping me to try and secure my play going forward (and it might work!)

just be aware that it's entirely possible you get bumped out of the loft especially on that weekend. just because the host puts you in for it is no guarantee you'll end up there. you could easily get bumped down to a 1BR or a 2BR Marquee. it usually requires $100k trip loss for a 2BR on big weekends like MM/SB/NYE/etc. I had my host put me in for a 2BR Mansion on July 4 last year and a week out I had been bumped down to a 2BR Skyloft and 1 day out I had been bumped down to a Marquee. a group of 12 middle eastern guys with $200k trip losses each had booked. that kind of stuff happens all the time.

if you do end up there, just make sure to take full advantage of the butler and other services. I always call and have the butler bring in breakfast each morning at whatever time I want. they just come in and set it up on the table downstairs and you can be in the shower or whatever. when you come downstairs, it's all ready for you. also be sure to have breakfast at the Mansion dining room at least one day. they'll escort you down there and it's the best food and great atmosphere. try something crazy from the Asian menu for breakfast like BBQ pork sticky buns or udon noodles with fatty beef.

use a Rolls/limo as much as you want. when you're out and need a ride back, call (702) 891-3832 and they'll send a car to pick you up. that's the direct number to the Skylofts concierge, so you can also call that number for anything else you want. maybe it's 3am and you're headed back from a club and you're starving want some food waiting for you. or you want them to draw a bath or get the steamshower going for when you return. whatever, just call them and done.

they'll also unpack your suitcase and press 5 items per day. they'll also pack up all your stuff the morning you leave. I always throw the butler about $40 to unpack my clothes and press my jackets and that goes a long way to getting them on your side for the rest of the trip. tip $10-20 for stuff they do for you throughout the trip depending on what it is.

This is very useful information. It's always hard for me to gauge tipping amounts for random things - though I do rarely have services like you mentioned, I do have some oddball things.

Ahhhh ok that makes more sense. I was thinking you were getting incredibly generous comps for playing under $400 but at around $1000 average bet is probably accurate. But guys like shifter would know better. Now I'm drooling at his description of the skylofts service. I visited a 2-bedroom skyloft years ago for an afterparty for a wedding and had higher expectations for what it would look like. But the services shifter explained sound incredible.

Thanks for the insight. I thought a little about the possibility of being bumped. I haven't actually accepted the offer yet because I want to call teh host tonight and talk to him about the odds of that happening. I would rather get a sure thing at Wynn or MB than get my hopes up only to find out the day before that I am getting downgraded

Get your minibar stocked with whatever you want. Everything non-alcholic is included in your Skyloft. Want Coke Zero, Perrier and San Pellegrino? Done. Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi? Done. They will also stock any brand of beer, wine, whatever. I usually get all I need to drink downstairs so the room is pretty much "recoup" time for me.

There is an outstanding coffee machine in the room, they will provide whatever kind of coffee bean flavor you like. I don't drink coffee, so I can't really remember brands, grinds, etc., but my wife loved it.

Bring an ipod or iPhone 4S or earlier and you can pipe your music around the suite. Fairly good quality Bang & Olfsen (sp?) system.

Watch a pay per view movie (we didn't, but nice to know we could). Its included in the rate.

Certainly have breakfast in the Mansion. Incredibly serene way to start the day.

We booked our Skyloft through American Express Platinum services, so I was assured of a loft. AmEx requires a prepay of the first night. Host comped the other night and a bunch of food. I was told Skylofts needed around $500/hand midweek, but who knows these days.

    Have fun!

Shifter, how well would your example of getting bumped apply in the OP's situation where it sounds like the host called him and offered the Skyloft without the OP asking for it? I'm sure they would bump him if they needed to but wouldn't it be less likely if you were offered it unsolicited? Otherwise it could be construed as a really dick move to lure him there with that promise then not deliver and meanwhile he's basically stuck. I'm guessing at your level Skylofts are an easy comp but the Mansion is harder. If your host offered you the Mansion in your example instead of you asking for it and then bumped you down when you got there I imagine you'd feel pretty upset with him wouldn't you?

    another curious question:

I noticed on MGM's website you can book a 2 bedroom skyloft outright for a 3 night weekend (thurs-Sun) for around 4K. I was actually thinking of doing this for my 50th birthday later this year. My play will never qualify for anymore than a tower one bedroom suite but it's not uncommon that I'll lose 4 grand in a 2-4 hour session of BJ so I'm thinking what the hell, skip playing for one day and use that day's gambliing budget on the nicer place.

Anyone know if they will bump you out if you are a paying guest?

that has nothing to do with it. the suite committee does the bumping, not the host and it will go by level of priority based on actual losses over the last couple of trips and then CL/FM and then theo. whether you ask for it or the host offers it, it's always subject to the same bumping. of course when I ask for the Mansion or even a 2BR Skyloft on a prime weekend I know there's a good chance i'll get bumped, so i'm prepared. i'm just trying to make sure the OP is prepared for the same.

as far as the host offering it and then you getting bumped, yeah, that's lame. if the host hasn't explained that there's a good chance he'll get bumped, it's pretty low to lure him there with that promise and then let him know at the last minute. but that's what some hosts do.

definitely book one if you can. they only offer a small number to book through the website, so get it if you can. you will not get bumped out as a paying guest. you could possibly get bumped up to a 3BR if they don't have a 2BR, but that's also unlikely.

the great thing about booking it on the website is that whatever the amount is that you pay, your host can always comp it at the end or you can use express comps, etc. but you're guaranteed to get it, which is big.

I was actually going to do this for my 30th birthday party last year, but I didn't jump on it soon enough and they sold out. it worked out because we ended up getting the Mansion instead, but I would have done it if I could have.

It could be sort of a gamble on their part. They know he's a pretty High Roller and has some dough (they're not stupid), so they're hoping that if they stroke him a bit they'll get more action out of him. If he disappoints them, well......

That's good to know. Thank you for the info/response. A bunch of my highschool friends are all turning 50 this year and we discussed to a Vegas Trip and the 2 bedroom Skyloft looks like it could make the experience that much more awesome. I will be at MGM next week so I may look into booking it especially if I can book a winner. Shifter I don't see a countdown timer for you.......What's up with that?? LOL Heck I've been off this board for months so kind of just getting back in the swing of things prepping for the valentines trip with the wifey.

Not a high roller, just a degenerate gambler. But I guess that is enough for them.

Left a message with the host last night to try and get more info on the odds of being bumped, but have yet to hear back from him .....
