    My Trip Report

After a disastrous November trip…..one of those where you couldn’t find a four of a kind if it was sitting in front of you and you needed two royals to just get even, I’ve been fortunate to have two winning trips in a row. We’re pretty boring in what we do when we’re in Vegas as we just like to gamble, so I’ll just recount the January trip as it has the biggest jackpot. If you just want to hit the photo gallery, this link should take you there and has some of the December and January hits.

    Flights:
United out of Houston on the 8:45 am flight on Wednesday, January 23rd. We used to always take the first flight out each morning which left around 7:15 am or so. Well, United has discontinued that flight on Wednesdays and Fridays and now the first flight is the 8:45 am. We decided not to pay or use miles for first class and were pleasantly surprised when we were both upgraded. First win of the trip……however, neither of us got the TSA pre-check this time either way. I can’t help but think it has something to do with United messing around in our profile again after my DH spent several hours getting all of our information lined out last year. Really? Do I need to be Mrs anything????

Return flight was on Saturday at 11:30 am, but there was no upgrade this time. So, we sat in adjacent aisles in economy plus. Here’s another United tip for you……when we book together on my account, DH gets economy plus for free as I’m platinum and he’s silver and silver has to pay for economy plus.

    Hotel:
We were staying in the Tower Suites in an Executive suite at Wynn again with a fabulous view of the golf course. Our room was ready when we arrived (always a nice perk), thanks to Alex in the VIP area. We take good care of Alex and she looks out for us too. Our new host is kind of a ditz and forgot to send the car to pick us up at the airport……we called Alex and she had one there within 30 minutes.

    Meals:
We are creatures of habit and ate at our all Wynncore favorites.

Society Café for dinner: DH ordered the chef’s special which is a soup, orchiette pasta and donut bites. I had the meatballs and the salmon with mashed potatoes and two glasses of Seghesio zinfandel.

Tableau: We usually eat breakfast here, but decided to try it for lunch instead. DH had the ham and cheese sandwich which had camerbet as the cheese…..very sharp and he wasn’t a fan of that sandwich. I had the crab sandwich (delicious) with fries.

SW Steakhouse: SW is my favorite restaurant at Wynncore and we usually eat the steak. I’ve been really loving their scallop dish with risotto and peas and decided to have that as my main course with a Caesar salad for an appetizer. DH had the king crab soup and the chicken with mashed potato puree. We skipped dessert as we were both stuffed after this. The scallops were fabulous, but I’ll be back to eating my filet next time as I really enjoy a great steak.

ZooZas: We also had lunch one day at Zoozas…..Friday as they make a fabulous new England clam chowder soup on Fridays. Just your usual deli fare for the two of us.

    Gambling:
DH and I are primarily video poker players with some slots thrown in there to combat the tedium. I try really hard to stay away from the penny slots and play at higher denominations as those penny slots seem to just suck my bankroll.

Also, I’ve been slowly moving to play more triple double bonus poker and less double double bonus. Yes, I know the variance on TDB is sky high, but since I can’t seem to hit a royal any more (only 1 in each of the last two years despite the fact I have played at least 400,000 hands each year), I’m going for the aces with a kicker that pay the same as the royal. I’m sure this is going to catch up with me eventually in terms of a major loss, but two trips in a row, I’ve hit aces w/k on TDB for $4000 each time. In December, I hit this combination twice and once in January.

Wednesday and Thursday were pretty awful gaming days…..the quads were very few both days and the slots weren’t much kinder. I did eke out quad aces on dollar DDB triple play, but those didn’t last long and I quickly gave it all back. I also had $500 in free credit and ran through that in about 15 minutes playing video poker and dollar slots.

My only fun gambling on Thursday was playing dime Pharaoh’s fortune and getting 18 free games with a 4X multiplier. During the bonus round, I retriggered twice for a total of 54 games and had a nice $650 win betting $2 per spin. The next time I got the bonus, I managed to pick the “begin free spins” as my first pick! Aargh…..and I was playing 20 lines at quarters rather than dimes. Oh well, it was great fun to get those retriggers. I also hit two double diamonds with a red 7 on a dollar pin ball machine for a $640 win.

I went to bed on Thursday night about $3K in the hole…..yeouch.

Friday afternoon things started to turn around when I finally hit a bonus quad on TDB for a nice $2K hit. Whew! It was my first quad of the day, but it was a good one.

Right after my bonus quad, DH texts me as he has now hit aces with a kicker on DDB for a $2K hit also. Looks like we won’t be needing another marker after all. 

Later that day, both DH and I hit aces with a kicker on TDB for lovely jackpots of $4K each. DH tells me that he had been thinking of playing DDB instead as he hated getting just 10 for those trips. I think it’s safe to say that I’ve now converted him!

I also hit 3’s with a kicker for $2k some time that evening….a bit too many glasses of wine to remember exactly when.

We went to bed on Friday night and both of us were ahead…….that doesn’t happen very often. I was up $3000 and told myself I was willing to give $1K back to Mr Wynn and still go home with money.

On Saturday morning, we hit the casino floor about 7:30 am knowing we had to leave by 9:30 am to catch our car. I played $300 in one TDB machine without a quad…..another $300 in the one next to it and still no quad. Now, I’ve lost $600 in about 30 minutes and I’ve still got 2 hours before our car leaves to go back to the airport.

I downloaded my cash back ($225) and added $300 of my own money to one of the all star poker machines over by Red 8. I selected $ DDB triple play super times pay and proceeded to play. I LOVE this game….but I usually play it in 50 cent denominations because at $18 per spin, it can take your money pretty fast. After a few minutes, I hit quad 2’s on the top line and had my bankroll up to $750. I decided that I was going to keep playing and play it down to zero. I continued to get multipliers, but no real big hits. I had been dealt trip aces twice but didn’t connect with the fourth ace or a multiplier.

And then, the magic happened. Dealt a pair of aces with a 5X multiplier…….I sat there totally stunned as I watched the middle line hit the quad aces with a kicker for a $10,100 jackpot…..my single largest jackpot ever. I sat there in total disbelief and awe. :faint: I’ve hit a couple at $8000, but none at $10K. And, the best part was that I hit it at 9 am and our car was leaving at 9:30 for the airport so there was no chance to give it back. I tipped the attendants $100 each, got my $10K brick, played out the rest of my money and headed up to the room to pack.

So there you have it, a winning trip to the Wynn as I came back with $12,000 of Mr. Wynn’s money and he picked up all the room and food charges. It's not Natedog type money, but it was big for me.

We’ll be back in Vegas in a couple of weeks and will be staying at Aria this time. Aria has super times pay and double super times pay on their five star poker machines that are just single line. I’ll also be back at the TDB rather than the DDB.

You guys have had some nice wins on VP. I was looking thru your pics and was wondering what the denom was on that Lord Of The Rings machine that you hit for $2500?

How did you get $5,000 in free credit? I assume you won some sort of contest. Most we've received on an offer was $400 and that was sent to my wife as I'm 90% table players. We have been to a few drawings but never have won anything.

The LOTR hit was actually DH's hit as I am not a Tolkien fan. It was a penny denomination of the original LOTR and he was playing Gandalfs fireworks. I am pretty sure he was playing max bet, so $3 per spin.

Wynn is once again having their Lucky Red 8 drawing. You win tickets by playing (one ticket per day for every 150 points up to a max of 40 tickets on slots and ? Tickets on table games) and then if you hit 5 of the 8 numbers (think Bingo), you can win a share of the $1000 in free play. I managed to hit 6 of 8 numbers (this was in our October trip last year) and won $5000 in free credit. I had zero luck on this game in January!

Nice hit on the aces!! I hit a double diamond machine for 4k once, and it was on the first day...it was all I could do to bring the majority home with four days left on the trip!

Wow awesome wins! Congrats! $12k is a seriously impressive for mostly $1 video poker. I love the Wynn casino as well and have had good luck there. Was your suite and food comped upfront or did they take the charges off at the end? Also do you know what your total coin-in was?

I hope you're just exaggerating about this. 400,000 hands a year even at 500 hands/hour is 800 hours of play. That's like 16 hours per week every single week!

Great report! Your play at Wynn sounds a lot like mine. May I ask how you coordinate your bankroll? You mention taking a marker, but I didn't know you could do that with slots / vp. I usually bring $3k in cash and then hit the ATM for $1k every time I need more. It would be a lot easier to use some marker system. Any help would be appreciated! And congrats on that big win at the end!

We have a line of credit at Wynn and when we arrive, DH goes to the high limit area and takes both cash and tickets out against the marker. I generally get my tickets in either $1K or $2K amounts and then just insert those into the machines just like they were cash. When I run out of cash, it's back to the high limit area for another marker. At the end of our stay, we either write a check for the markers we took out or pay it back in cash (like this time). Very simple system to use and no fees.

Did some simple math and it is more like 200,000 hand per year.....400 hours of gambling time at 70% video poker at 800 hands per hour. Not sure who only plays 500 hands per hour.....that is snail speed in my book. But, I do play quite a bit of triple play, so that also adds up.

Yes, the suite and food were comped up front.....we average about $500 per trip in food charges. Not sure of the total coin in......we put 35,000 points on our cards between the two of us.
