Dewey, thanks for the trip report, bringing the bike was a great idea, riding the boards in the morning is as good as it gets. Sorry that you could only buy 10 reduced Jitney fares, but that would make the break even 3 trips vs. paying full fare. Next year, think about bringing some gear and go surf fishing off the beach, it's still a little early for stripers, there are small blues being reported.

What kind of license, if any, does a NY state resident need to fish in the ocean off New Jersey. I could get into that, especially if I were staying at Showboat. My last day I could take home my catch. I love blues.

I was happy that I did not buy jitney tickets because I just would not have used them. The days I wanted to leave Harrah's, I just drove to Atlantic Club. I doubt that I would be away from my home casino at night and the Harrah's night games were fine, I just could not seem to stay up very late.

There is a saltwater registry, it's currently free http://www.nj.gov/dep/saltwaterregistry/index.html
There are some big party boats that will take you fishing for the day in the ocean and some smaller boats that go in the back bays. A few boats go out at night fishing for blues, I went on a night trip years ago and the captain put us on the fish, the lights on the boat reflected off the school of blues racing after the baitfish, it was like a feeding frenzy, amazing. We went on an 8 man charter last year which turned out to be a $1500 boat ride, that's why it's called fishing, not catching.

With that said, check out your local Wegman's market, they may have whole bluefish for $8 per lb. and small bronzino's which are striped bass that would be just great on the grill.

Hi Dewey. I am new to this board (just joined today). I go to AC 2 - 3 times a year and the casinos you had pictured are Trump Taj Mahal and the one with the "golf ball" on top is the new Revel. At night the golf ball is a revolving globe! If you ever get back to AC, try the Borgata Buffet. It is the best in town!

I surf fish a little north of AC

But, the first place I might try would be to go over the causeway by Harrahs to Brigantine Island ,I'm sure theres some bait and tackle shops where they may help you out esp. if you buy a couple bunker to cut up and use. I hope they replace the beach where I fish after the storm damage.

Dewey, I somehow missed this when you posted it. I am so glad USMCMIL brought it to my attention, as it was a delightful read! ACY has a flavor of it's own, and you captured it with your words and pictures. Thank you!

All I know of recovery is what I read in the papers. I was there long before the storm hit, last October.
I do know that the Atlantic Club is being sold. News today was that some technicality in the sale forced them to send out layoff notices to everyone even though they don't expect to lay off anyone.

I'm glad you folks enjoyed the read. I'm a long way from there now, wintering down in Homosassa Florida and playing a bit of poker at the Ocala Jai Alai or at Tampa Hard Rock once in a while.

I think it will be a Fall again before I go to Atlantic City.

I was just there beginning of December, most everything cleaned up by then. I did go over to Gilchrist Pancake House while I was there. It is on Gardner's Basin and there was a restaurant down the block from them that had been hit bad. They were still tearing the floor boards up in that place!

So sad. I can't remember the name of the restaurant though.
