    My Trip Report

Wow, just arrived in LV after almost 8 hour drive. Plan on doing a little bit of gambling but also lots of non gambling activities, like zip lining tomorrow in Boulder Canyon, can't wait.

Picture is from my odd hotel room. First person to guess correctly where I am staying wins prize of me placing a $10 SB bet for them on team of their choice ImageUploadedByTapatalk1359775627.776902.jpg

You got it, isn't it weird, I have stayed in dozens of Holiday Inns actually around the world and first time I had gym equipment in room. :) Who do you want in the game? The one sports book I was in tonight had SF -4.

Woo hoo! Lol. I'm a plat member in the HI's Priority Club, and the dead giveaway was the red throw on the bed. Next confirmation was the room card case you left on the desk (the thing they put the room keys in). Definitely a Holiday Inn standard case. I've stayed in my fair share of Holiday Inns over the years (my preferred traveling hotel brand) but haven't seen gym equipment in a room before either. Is this a standard room or were you upgraded? I also see your goodie bag so assuming you're a plat with status.

I think the 49ers will win but I will go for the underdogs in this case (is that how you read sports lines?). Baltimore, bet $10 to win $40? If Baltimore pulls it out, please donate the proceeds to support this board (top left under Support this Board). Everyone here is in on this bet that way!

That is odd. It must have been brought up there at the request of the previous guest and they never got around to taking it out. I've known hotels that will do that for guests at times but surprised that it was done at a Holiday Inn. I wouldn't complain, it makes it easy to get in a quick workout in the morning. Though its probably more likely I would just use it as another thing to throw my old clothes on top of.

Baltimore, whooooo! San Fran made it an interesting ending though, or should I say the blackout made it an interesting ending.

Travelfriend, where did you watch the game?

Yep, your pick on Baltimore was a good one. I ended up watching game at Sunset Station, local casino where I use to hang out when I lived here. Had a great bar top VP game that I played almost entire game on $140 buy in, hit several quads that kept me going. The -4 was the point spread so the $10 bet wins 18.70 or something like that, ticket in the car and I am headed to collect now and will send in to VMB in your name. Will update this trip report with pics when I get home, for now have 7.5 hour drive, always the sad part of the trip, LOL

Eagerly awaiting your TR travelfriend. I was wondering why you picked HIE to stay at. Did you use points? I have considered using points at the Venetian but can't bring myself to use up 40k in points when I can stay at Harrahs next door for $40. Just wondering on the hotel selection as you wrote this trip was done on the cheap. I don't know where Sunset Station is so maybe you were away from the strip.

Okay, here is the official write up of report. Nothing to exciting I am afraid and I am terrible at writing so I hope someone enjoys.

Decided last minute to head to Las Vegas for SuperBowl, just needed to get away, lots of stress and major changes at work, I am sure some can relate.

I live about 7.5 hour drive from Las Vegas so I get rental car for $100 for 4 days and head out about noon on Friday. I am certainly a low roller, taking $400 for the trip which is to cover food, drinks and gambling. Once again, I have free hotel points, so I am booked at the Holiday Inn Express in Henderson for Friday night, then the La Quinta Inn South of airport for Saturday and Sunday night, have Monday off so drive home then.

Drive to Las Vegas was not a problem on Friday, very little traffic and Eastern Utah is quite pretty. My route takes me about 30 miles outside of Moab where Arches National Park is. Didn’t visit there but took some scenic shots along the way. They will be posted in next post with other pics.

Arrive in Las Vegas about 6:30 Vegas time, love using Siri to get directions to hotel. Now I picked the HI in Henderson because I knew it would be easy drive from there to Boulder City for the ziplining and lo and behold, that hotel just happened to be within walking distance of the Sunset Station! Now how did that happen?

Got settled into the room with my elliptical, see the pic, still strangest thing I have seen. Headed over to Sunset Station, literally hadn’t been in that casino since 1997 when they first opened. It is definitely a locals casino which was fine with me. Couldn’t really get anything going gambling wise. Was just playing VP at .25 and then some Pai Gow Poker. Think I bought in with $100 and left casino with $135, better than losing I say.

Saturday – this was ziplining day out in BootLeg Canyon in Boulder City. This is a new thing for me, usually my trips to Vegas are filled with sitting at VP machines for many hours a day. With my ziplining tour starting at noon and with all the travel time, lasting until almost 5pm, I would actually be in Las Vegas and not gamble for almost 17 hours at all. Geesh, I hope that doesn’t get me kicked off VMB! :D

BootLeg Canyon Ziplining http://www.flightlinezbootleg.com/ - What a blast, can’t recommend it enough. I used a coupon for 10% off, you can find it online here, http://www.vegas4locals.com/couponlasvegasziplines.html
The canyon itself is quite beautiful and takes maybe 15 minutes to drive from office to the top. Then you have about a 15 minute walk to the first launch platform. You are at elevation of 3532 and the first ride is the steepest, 17% and 1852 feet long. You hit speeds up to 35 mph. 2nd ride is about same distance but only 6% down grade. On this one, you actually need to lay down to get aerodynamic and do some zipping. 3rd one was my favorite and longest one, almost half mile long at 2546 feet with 8% down grade. Oh, there are 4 lines at each station, they would push 2 at a time, about 10 seconds apart, wait till they got half way and then start the other 2. On the 3rd run of day, I got pushed 2nd but laid down and my speed actually let me catch the guy that started about 10 seconds before me. Win #1 Last run of day was shortest one, only 1145 feet long but steeper down grade at 11%.

Sorry, probably too much detail but this was a blast and for sure I would do it again. In fact, like to do the twilight or even darkness run they offer during summers.

It is now about 4pm on Saturday and on drive back to Las Vegas, I just happen to take exit where there is an In-N-Out Burger, so you know I just had to stop and be an animal. I get checked in to my La Quinta south of airport and need a nap of course. I actually got a little sunfried and wind blown from being out in the Canyon for most of the day. Made reservations for dinner at 8:30 at Gallaghers at NYNY, have $75 certificate from MyVegas, oh yeah. Power napped for about 30 minutes but it is Vegas, you can’t sleep too long. Head over to the Strip and found it easier to valet at Hooters, play a little VP, dropped $70, and then walked over to NYNY.

Gallaghers was great, ambiance good, wait staff friendly and food was excellent. I got their signature sirloin with side of mac and cheese. Not sure what the steak size was but it filled me up and then some. I was going to give NYNY some gambling time but I really wanted to play Pai Gow Poker and I couldn’t find a table there. So I headed back to Hooter’s, played video poker for maybe an hour or two and at midnight, called it an early evening, anticipating all the fun for SuperBowl Sunday.

SuperBowl Sunday – Woke up with still no place to watch the game picked yet, but I had time. Decided to run over to the Palms, play on my favorite penny 50 play VP machines, did okay there, hit 2 RF and played quite a while. Ahh, Sunday morning bloody marys are just great way to start the day. Made some SB bets while I was there for various folks, boards. Only one that paid of was the $10 on Baltimore, all proceeds being donated to VMB. Made my way down to the Vegas Sign because in all my visits and living there, I had never actually been there. Whew, got that checked off the list.

Went back to Sunset Station about an hour before game time and found a decent .25 VP bartop game at the bar by the sports book. Beer was free and cold and bartender was nice guy, even got them to let me partake in the snacks they had set up for the SuperBowl bettors. My $300 buy in lasted till the blackout with lots of ups and downs (hmm, interesting sentence regarding a SuperBowl) so then I switched over to Pai Gow for rest of the game and played for quite a bit after the game was over, didn’t want to be driving under the influence and I had quite a few during the game. At about midnight, hit up the Fatburger that is inside the casino, burger was good!

Monday – sadly, I most go, stopped at Palms to cash in my 1 measly winning SB bet and then started to head out of town, nice hangover going to make this 7.5 hour drive a bit of a long one. Then I remembered I hadn’t played at a CET casino and needed some play so not to lose my points. I went across street to RIO, hoping to just pop in and out. Wouldn’t you know it, my TR card from September had become magnetized or whatever and wouldn’t work on anything. Had to find TR counter, get new card, put it in VP machine and crap it is $1 machine, I say screw it, put $5 in and it deals me a Full House for $45. Sweet, puts me in a better mood as I get in car for that long drive home. Posting pictures next.

    Thanks for reading!

Thanks for the TR and the photos. Much appreciated.

I'm guessing that Gallagher's is one of the options for the $75 MyVegas credit.

Thanks for the TR and donation to VMB, hee hee!

That steak at NYNY has been on my to do list lately as a coworker said it was great too.

Sounds like a jam packed weekend getaway with a nice finish.

Great report, thanks! I would love to be able to be within driving distance of Vegas. I would love it, not sure my bank account would!
