I searched the forums and am a little confused. I'm planning a trip in March or April. I haven't stayed downtown in a couple of decades and am ignorant of so much there. I would like to stay at MSS and would hope to swim a bit or at least get some sun. So…
    • Does MSS and the Cal share a pool?
    • Is it heated?
    • Would it be too cold outside to use in from St. Paddy's Day onward?
Thanks. I'm kind of looking forward to a different LV experience if the stars align.

Main Street Casino guests can use the pool on the roof of the California, however it is not heated, and won't be open until the middle of April.

I stayed at the Fremont last summer in July, went over to the Cal pool, and it was frigid! Couldn't go in at all.

    Atom, Joe, Sammasseur ~

Thanks for the info. Hmm. Do you … or anybody else, know if the Plaza pool is heated? Or <cough, ahem> if I might crash it?

It didn't used to be, but think I read somewhere that it is now. Don't know if it as easy to sneak into as it used to be either.

I don't know if they would allow it, but maybe you could make a call to see if they would let you access te pool at Sam's Town. Free shuttle and stuff, but may be too much work to use a pool.

I have heard many times that the pool at cal is usually cold.

we used the plaza pool on our july visit and it was beautiful but it was also 112 degrees. burned my feet on that green astro turf they have on the deck and had to sit with my feet in the pool for a while.

Its kind of small and its not heated. Its located of the rooftop of the Cal, yes they do share it. If you are used to fancy resort pools, you will be disappointed. I've always been happy with their pool, but I have simple tastes.

If you are staying at MSS and decide to use the pool at the Cal, you used to have to stop at the front desk of the Cal to get a room card to swipe on the pool door.

I don't know if that's still the case, but check first and save yourself a wasted trip to the pool, only to find you can't get in.

The Cal pool so of blows. Freezing cold even in summer. Very small. No bar. No Music. Very few chairs.

In contrast the Plaza pool is 3 times the size. Lots of chairs. Bar. Music. Heated. Great views of downtown.

I dont remember there being a hot tub up at the Plaza pool, but its possible there is one. I know when I was up there 5-6 years back I didnt see one. Back then there was no bar or music either, it was dead up there. I am not sure if they have renovated the area up there, but that place was ripe for anything. You couldnt have asked for a better area for a pool but it was not being used to its full advantage at all!

I believe the original concept for a Main Pool at the Plaza was the Cocktail Glass Pool at the West end of Freemont St. facing up Freemont. It ended up as a Steak house but I've seen photos of it in operation in its heyday.
