I’ll be spending 5 nights in March at the Mirage and don’t really want to carry the fairly sizable amount of cash I will bring, between airport inspections and having that amount in my pocket on a daily basis etc. According to my bank travelers checks are a thing of the past replaced by debit cards. I know I can use an in-room safe or the cashier at the hotel (usually a hassle) but that doesn’t resolve the traveling part and prefer not to use a hotel ATM with the daily limits and fees.

Is there a method to send the money to the hotel and have it held on account prior to my arrival? Thanks for any replies.

Yes. Call VIP services and they'll give you wire instructions. You can wire money from your bank right to the cage, then draw it out when you get there as you see fit.

I am sure they will accept wire transfers. I would call and ask to speak to the cage.

If you don't want to wire the money, you could always establish a line of credit at the casino. It's a pretty painless process, and you generally have 30 days to pay back anything you don't settle upon leaving the casino

No. Open a line for 50k, lose 30k gambling. You just pay them 30k, there are no additional fees(might be if you are late in paying, no clue on that).

    Two comments

    1) Lines of Credits can be good. You do have to have that average balance in a checking account to open it though.

    2) Wire Transfers are good as well. In the situation above I would question the use of this though. ATMs were mentioned with the daily limit and the fees. Now if you are talking about 2k+ a day withdrawal I could see an issue, but I've done 1k ATM withdrawals before. For me wire transfers would be ~$50-60 total(one to the casino, one back), so that is 10 ATM withdrawals.

I don't know what amount of money you are talking about. Don't just assume an ATM has a $300 limit though. You can talk to your bank and get your daily limit increased even on a temporary basis. I've suggested this to many family members. Yes, you still pay a fee, but that is the cost of feeling safer with less total money on you.

If you wire funds, are there any withdrawal restrictions?

Because regarding check writing, my host at The Beau Rivage (MGM Resorts) checked with his cage for me previously and they informed him they'll only let you take out 10% at a time.

Problem is Bank of America caps you to only $1500 per day on ATM withdrawals (no matter how much you have on deposit with them; just researched this last week).

Additionally, I called the Bank of America branch on Tropicana and they informed me their Drive Thru ATMs limit you to $500 per transaction...so you've have to do three back-to-back transactions...also, their ATMs only pay in $20 bills.

If you have BoA, can't you just put the money in your own account, get to Vegas and go draw it out of the Vegas branch? Sure, you've got to carry the money from the branch to your hotel...so if it's 50 grand, maybe not.

I'm sure you can but I've never done it; was just talking about the convenience and privacy of a drive thru ATM.

Just go into the bank and get your money. Thats what I do. Never had an issue getting a few thousand out at any given time. If we're talking $10,000 or more you may want to give them a heads up so they can have the cash on hand to give you.

    Thanks for replies so far.............

"So, how much money are you talking about?"

I'm taking about 5K. I do bank with BOA and have plenty on deposit but as I recall when withdrawing from an ATM (third party as in a casino) the daily limit is $500.00. Perhaps I can change that....which wouldn't make the "fee" a deciding factor.

I Would like to take less cash, knowing I can just go to a casino ATM and get more. But, I'll definitely have to visit with my bank and tell them to up the ATM limits for the days I'm out there.

My question is, do casino ATMs spit out $100 bills? Would hate to get $1k in 20's.

Since you are only talking about $5,000..... dealing with wires, credit, etc is a big pain. That is small stuff to the cage.

We often have between $5 and $10k in cash with us when we travel. ATMs can give you at least $1,000 a day for $5 or so.

To me, dealing with all that other stuff is a big pain. We just carry the money. Leave extra in the room safe if you must.

scroll down the page, you will find this topic comes up about every 2 weeks. Many carry it. A few will not.

Well if you are actually going to a BoA machine, just go inside the bank to get money.

ATM Withdrawals are not an option for some people. The amount of money you take will make a difference. For me $1500/day is plenty. I would still expect someone to take some cash. So lets say $1500 on them, another $1500 and they can blow 3k the first night and 1.5k every night afterwards. Honestly if you are taking more money than that, just wire the funds or carry it on you, or put it in the safe.

I still think ATM fees are very reasonable for people who are scared to carry that kind of cash on them. The vaste majority of people going to Vegas do not take 10k+. 3-4 $5 fees at an ATM may be very worthwhile to make people who simply don't want to have that much cash on them(or in a safe).

Every ATM I've ever used in a casino has given me $100 bills. Again if you are using the BoA machine to save money, that completely missed the point on why I even suggested to use an ATM in Vegas

Others can comment on limits taking out money that you wire. I do know the casinos do not want you to deposit money and use them as your own personal bank for a week. They are holding the money for you to gamble with. I've heard many stories though that people take out markers, gamble a little and cash the chips. Yes, you need to gamble, but I expect most people do that anyway. I don't know how people would get money for slots if there is a 10% limit. I know you can get TITOs in the high limit slots, but not sure what someone who doesn't want to play in there does.

Someone above mentioned BoA can increase to $1500. I have no experience with them. I will point out some ATMs have an ATM limit that isn't affected by banks. I have no idea if this is the case, but I wouldn't go into Walgreens to get $1500. I simply wouldn't expect that ATM to handle it. I have had zero issues getting $1000 out of a few ATMs in casinos in the past.

Yes $100 bills. I assume they spit out exactly what you would get if you had inserted a TITO for the same amount. Even a $120 TITO I get a $100 and a $20.

ATM fees and limits are such a downer in Las Vegas. Even $5 (which is about the lowest you'll find) is the theo on 50+ $25 hands of blackjack!

I always pull out my trip bankroll in cash from the bank if I'm going to play somewhere I don't have a credit line, although if I have the convenience of a rental car I will wait until I hit Las Vegas to do it. Put the bulk of it in the room safe and no more worries about cash!

Of course, if you're the type who can't limit yourself on gambling, the ATM limits can be a good thing.

Regarding wire transfers at MGM LV properties:

Does anyone know if you have full access to the funds, or if you're restricted by some percentage (like in the 10% maximum withdrawal for a check that I cited earlier)?

    TIA.
