With so much money flying around, how do you successfully tip the casino staff at a craps table without confusing everyone? Do you specifically say this is for you?

I like to place a couple bucks on the hardways "for the boys". You can also place an additional. Passline. Bet "for the boys".

I typically put 5$ in the field which is not the greatest of bets but which has a fair chance to pay. If it hits I take the winnings and toss it to the boxman sitting in the middle of the table and make eye contact with "for you guys" and he generally nods thanks and puts it in the little box. I let the 5$ ride and continue. This way I am betting 5 $ for the crew and have a possibility of making a good tip over time if no loser # comes up. Also, each time I put it out there and it loses on the first roll, it is acknowledged as a try. I do this usually during the next roll after a couple of line winners. Depends on the game karma.

I used to do hardways which when hitting were great. But generally I only got a "dealers thank you for the tips" for my efforts. Best ever was 8 field bets in a row with a snake eyes and box cars.

I do pass line or the random two way yo. I like the pass line myself - usually say "crew is on the line...., you win I win." I also back it up with double odds.

I usually put a $2 pass line bet next to mine (for the boys) and then back it with full odds. For reference, I’m typically a $15 PL + full odds bettor.

I also usually place the 6 and 8. If I happen to be winning (because of the place bets) but the shooter isn’t hitting points, I’ll sometimes add $6 or $12 to the place bets for the boys. (Again, for reference, I usually place the 6/8 for $60.)

Then at the end of the session, I’ll usually toss a few chips to them as well. If I’ve lost my ass, they usually just get my “loose singles”. If I’ve won big…well, I’ll tip accordingly.

It doesn't matter how crowded the table is. Pick your normal favorite tip (a lot of good ideas in previous posts) and just make sure you make contact with the crewman on your end and let him know what you're doing.

Trust me on this one, he'll not miss a bet for the table. He'll also make sure the other guys know it's there.

For me personally the two dealer bets I make are two way bets on the hardways...good for a crowded table because you're throwing it to the middle and announcing it anyway. And if the stick misses it, he'll ask for clarification. My second bet is once the point is set. You can just take a $5 and put it on the passline, but not inside...literally right on the line between where you'd put your passline bet and the odds. This is the equivalent of placing the point. So on a $5 bet there if the point was a 9, the dealers would take down $5 + $7 if you hit the point.

I usually bet the hard ways for the boys and/or make a place bet for them on the line. Or a 2 way yo bet.Or if I am somewhere like Tunica which allows up to 100x odds I just usually put a bet on top of the odds for the crew. And I usually when I cash out give them anything less than a green chip in the change or less than black chip if I have won big.

Two ways on the hard ways...pays well for them and fun to call out.

If you're putting them on the line, they'll generally notice that you have a second, smaller bet right next to your own, but just in case I'll normally tell the stick or the closest dealer that "the boys are on the line". I usually do that at the beginning to establish a good rapport and let them know I plan on tipping, and then I'll switch to putting them on hardways; for those, I'll just toss out two chips to the middle and call "two-way hard [whatever]". As mentioned, it pays well for them when it hits, and it's only a dollar if it doesn't.

You can tip a number of different ways:
    - If it's not a bet, just toss or slide the chips over with "for you guys", "for the dealers", "for the workers", etc.
    - If it's a bet, just say the name of the bet and add "for the workers", etc. Ex: "Pass line for the dealers". "hardways for the workers" etc
    - If you are placing the same bet for yourself and dealers, add "two way" before the name of the bet "two way hard 4". Any win from what you hand them will be split 50-50.

Most craps dealers I know prefer a straight tip. Less work and more money for them.

With "booties"! They will then be at least on your side ( or at least a little moreso).

What I do is a "hard 8 hopping, two ways" and toss a $25 and a $5 chip. If 4+4 hits on the next roll (only), I'll bank $750 and the boys will bank $150. It's a bit more exciting and the dealers start to root for the 4+4 roll also. It's a risky bet but I usually wait until I'm up and betting the bank's money anyway.

I think they appreciate any bet you place for them, as opposed to just tossing them a white or red chip, so they can play along with the rest of the table.

Sometimes I'll add "dealer odds" to the odds on my come bet(s) - the crew seems to like the bet. They really like it when I correct them after they forget that I made the bet for them and they pay me. If I have a winning session, I'll also give them the odd chips left after I color up.

Also, there are many different ways to do a two-way bet on the hardways. If you toss them two singles and say two-way, then it's $1 and $1. But I don't always have singles so sometimes I'll throw two reds. But if I'm not winning, two reds is a lot for a hard-way so I'll often throw one red and say 'two way hard six, 3 and 2.' They put $3 on for me and $2 for themselves.

Trust me, when there's a tip involved they're going to figure it out. Not always so in non-vegas places where the crews aren't as good, but in vegas they're all pros.

Another thing you can do is team up for a tip. Say the guy next to you puts $5 on the pass line for the dealers and then sets a point. You can take your $5 and ask the other guy and the dealer if you can put odds on his bet for the table. The answer will always be yes.

On a crowded table it is amazing to watch the stick man organize the bets in the center.

People just yell out stuff and toss money. The stick man amazingly gathers up all the loose chips and plops them down correctly.

To address the question, I tend to use the "Two way" reference.

Just found this URL as a neat reference.

When the crew is a bunch of fun and competent guys ( and gals...) I usually make a pass line bet next to mine when it's my turn to roll. I point at the bet next to mine and announce "dealers on the line...".

Watch their faces light up and echo "DEALERS ON THE LINE !!!!" Great fun when you and they win together. Believe me, they won't forget it...

If I'm not rolling I'll toss a two way hard-way for two dollars, one for me, one for them. Even when it don't win they never forget to thank you for trying.

I'm a firm believer in karma at the tables. I tip when-ever I can, even when I'm losing, even if it's a little tip, they know you mean well. I've had sessions when the boxman would ask the dealer what my average bet was so he can enter it in the computer. I've heard them say " 25 dollars average on the passline" even though they know damn well I'm only betting 5 or ten dollar minimums. What goes around, comes around....

I love to play craps. If I had only 10 minutes to live before I die I'd want to spend it at the craps tables, hopefully on a 10 minute monster roll, hitting all the points and hardways. Then when I drop dead my last words would be, "everything for the dealers...." lol!! can't take it with you anyway!!

If I color up when leaving, I'll ask the crew if they prefer I pay or play for them. If there are greens or blacks involved, I'll lay it down on the table so they can make the call. Many times they would rather just take the tip.

At craps I usually hand in my tips at the end and skip the betting for the dealers, not sure why, just seems simpler. It certainly makes less work for them. And if you think about it, a rational dealer would rather just be given a tip then have it exposed to the house edge, though at least at a blackjack table, I'd say 90% of the dealers that will answer the question will tell you to bet the tip instead of just handing it in.

Interesting question. Two way bets: are they always 50-50? When I throw out $6 for a twoway yo, it is almost always understood that it is $5 for me and $1 for the dealers, not $3 and $3. But is this always the case? I have seen people throw out a $25 chip for a two way yo and it is bet as $20 and $5. I don't think I have ever seen it bet as $24 and $1 (or $12.50 and $12.50), There seems to be an understanding and I rarely hear it specificlly defined. Is there some convention I am not aware of?

I've noticed that too. If its green or black they'll take the money. But for $1 or $5 i guess its worth the risk for them to try to at least double it up.
