My one and only trip to sin city was to occur in february 1997. I hadn't had a vacation in 6-7 years, never been to vegas and having rental property and a couple of businesses, I pretty much worked every day. I did some traveling in my younger days and so was content to enjoy the rural nature of NH and did a lot of back packing throughout the White Mountains and living in the City on the Lakes where you can fish for salmon on main street and swim at several town beaches even downtown. So I really had no desire to travel for the sake of traveling.

I have an awards and marking business and i joined the National Organization, signed up for everything i could and set off to the big city ( I hate cities). WELL, that was 18 trips ago. What is it about LV? Well, it is different for each of us but it is what we have in common. It's a big city for us small town folks where we can enjoy city life and then go back to the tranquality of our little towns. It is great place to people watch, easy to get around in on foot, driving or on bus, a great variety of foods, hotels and resorts, entertainment, cheap to stay and cheap and easy to get to. I even took my 3 kinds one at a time when they were in high school.

My show turned out to be tremendous and I learned the value of networking. I not only was able to deduct part of the trip but could underwrite some or all of the cost in savings by buying show specials. Help from friends made at the show saved me more money than all the trips I've taken so far. So I really do win in LV.

My fun starts the day I return fromLV as I pull out a folder and start planning for the next trip. I discoved this forum and take notes all year from people's comments on new places, shows and experiences. The hunt turns out to be as much fun as the kill!. I started this year buying my ticket in July, and then rebooking twice. I got the lowest hotel price in years and bus passes, everything but meals and entertainment. As the excitement grew the economy locally went bad. Between my marathon divorce and both businesses tanking and blood sucking lawyers, I plan on cancelling my trip next week. Short of winning a lottery, it just won't work this time around.

But it was fun, planning......and you always learn more. I have to use my credit with SWA before July so I am hoping for a trip later this year. Hopefully, life will be more simple next year now that I am on Medicare and start collecting social security next month. I intend to keep working and the only goal I am sure about is to plan on 2 trips a year to LV. Now isn't that a lofty goal? lol, it 's like preaching to the choir here!

I was reading your post and had no idea where it was going. Sad to hear about the set backs. You know they say that everything happens for a reason, one day this will all have worked out for something more positive.

ps Vegas will always be there for you, maybe not next week but someday in the (near) future

Well... maybe you set up a new project - going to Vegas and spending almost nothing to use up that SWA credit. Cheap buses. Cheap hotel. Best deals on food, etc.

Let us know how you do.

Live Free Or Die: was the first half of Gen. John Stark's sentence: "Live Free or Die: Death is not the worst of Evils."
How could you not enjoy LV?

Thanks, all of you guys. Maybe I'll just go ice skating and ice fishing for 8 days, who wants to walk around LV anyway? (j/k)!

I'm sorry buddy. If anybody needs/deserves a trip to Vegas, it's you. I know you'll be able to swing something for July. It might be more frugal than you're used to but, you'll be able to do it. Peanut butter and crackers taste better in Vegas anyway.

you are so right. Never minded frugal trips much. Eating mcdonalds in Vegas or gambling in a lower tier casino vegas still beats your home towns. I really hope the OP can pull a trip off
