Ok guys what would you buy in for if you sit down at say a 1$ 5play job machine or a ddb machine??

    How about .25$??

I play $0.25 VP and sometimes triple play. I typically buy in for $50 or $100 when I sit down at a machine. $100 for sure on triple play.

$100 on a single line $0.25 machine is usually enough for the ups and downs. If not, I usually move to another bank of machines. :)

A $1 5-play would be $25 per spin, so... um... $500? That's a bit too rich for me.

I buy in to every VP game I play with $100. Then another $100. Then another...

But seriously, for bankroll, it depends on your goal. If you want to play a certain number of hands, we could figure out your risk of ruin for any particular game. You're saying 5 play, $1, so that's $25 a hand. But you've got a lower variance because it's a 5 play.

    Personally I'd want $2500 for a session.

My bankroll is 500x my per-deal amount. So if I were at a 5-play $1 machine playing max credits, $25 a deal, bankroll would be 25x500 = $12,500. That's far lower than what serious players recommend, though (usually 1000-2000x).

I'm assuming you're talking total bankroll for the trip, NOT buy in for a session which is what the OP was asking. It would be overkill to by into a 5 line $1 JOB for 12.5k.

I thought it was a single session buy in too. I bring more than $100 for a 5 day trip. :)

Whether for a few minutes or a few hours, I almost always stick in $100 bill. I can not understand those that put in a few dollars, play for a bit, then dig again. And again. And those people usually have a wallet buried somewhere. I just reach in my pocket. The center of my cash wad is always hundreds. (at least I hope it is)

Why do you keep feeding a machine which doesn't give you any love? My advice would be "don't feed that vampire, leave, and move to another machine".

Yeah. I'll usually go for 100-500 depending on the denomination. I don't like fiddling with bills in the middle of playing, and I also don't like feeding endless bills into the machine because there's the assumption there that I'm going to need that many.

I try to stay away from VP, but if I have a drink at the bar I'll buy in for $50.

I'm still new to VP and mostly stick to $5 single line JoB at max-coin. I buy in for just 100 credits ($500) at a time but set 4000 credits (20k) for a trip bankroll on on it. I think that should suffice but I know playing on my iPhone or iPad I've lost 1000 credits in pretty short order sometimes so who knows...

I've seen stuff online about a lifetime bankroll for VP, that's useless to me. I would like to get a sense of a reasonable trip bankroll (e.g. for a certain # of hands).

For the drinks...how long do you have to play, how many lines ect? I have done some VP before and always get charged for the drinks.

The rule seems to be max coins and actively playing. I've found many bartenders have a different idea of "actively" means. ;)

Usually go for about 80x a spin on DDB. If I do not hit by then, either try for another session or go to another machine. For instance:
.25 machine, bet 5, total of 1.25/spin. Buy in for $100
.50 machine, bet 5, total of 2.50/spin. Buy in for $200
$1 machine, bet 5, total of 5/spin. Buy in for $400
    etc

A bankroll is an amount of money available to cover the variation in the loss/gain of money. It is used only if you are playing a game where you can loose or win but end up a winner in the long run (10% of poker players can say so for ex).

In a game of luck, where everybody but the casino is loosing in the long run : you have a gaming budget.

    Just sayin'

Well if I'm playing $5 a spin, which is normal for me, $100 doesn't last very long sometimes, especially at my favorite game, DDB, which has a high variance. I usually have a set amount I intend to play at that machine...be it $300 or $500 or $1000. When I hit that number, I move, usually to a table game.

I was walking around high limit slots earlier today at Bellagio. I see a jackpot on a 5 dollars 45 bet I think. Jackpot was 58,000. Wow. Wonder what his bankroll was?

I have only been admonished for not playing max credits at Aria; they require 3 credits per hand. Wynn also always charges I have heard. I immediately throw a $20 into the machine before ordering. As long as you tip from the get go, many bartenders seem to look the other way when you are only playing a single credit to minimize hourly loss. My hand rate also can be terribly slow playing at times as well (but probably 100 hands/hr minimum). Once again, I have never been told to speed up since I have been consistently tipping. :)

As for the "bankroll" question, I have a bad habit of just feeding $20s in on quarter machines and losing track.
