What to do downtown besides gamble and eat?

What have you done downtown for fun that did not involve gambling, eating or drinking?

I would like to make a couple downtown trips in the future but I find most of the fun stuff on the Strip. What do you do downtown?

 

You could spend hours just people watching. Some of the people down there are truly Cra Cra. And there is a Zip-Line. My sister did that last year. She loved it. You zip right down Fremont St for a couple blocks. And of course after dark the light show happens every hour I think.

I'm probably not the right person to answer this since I just go to gamble. I do that about 12-15 hours a day.

Hit up Insert Coins and play some of your favorite old school arcade games, or rent out a modern gaming system and play. Pop into "Don't Tell Mama" and listen to some very talented bartenders and patrons belt out a wide variety of tunes accompanied by a piano. Check out all the vintage toys in the Las Vegas Toy Shack (the owner of this store is one of the "experts" called in for "Pawn Stars". Catch Carl Ferris' Sax act in the evenings near Four Queens. Get a picture with a million bucks at Binions. Catch a show (productions aren't as big as the strip, but some are still quite good and undoubtedly cheaper). Check out the shark tank and the largest golden nugget at GN. Check out all the cool antiques at Main Street Station. (get someone to escort you into the men's room so you can see the huge chunk of the Berlin Wall that's there. Everything else people already said.

When you get tired of all that, I suggest eating, drinking and gambling.

 

Aside from the few things the above posters mentioned, there is not much else to do Downtown besides gambling and eating. Maybe sleep? lol!

But for me that's the reason I stay Downtown. The gambling is affordable for low-rollers like me and FUN!!

Kinda different crowd Downtown. More laid back, unpretentious, friendly, less uptight.

Downtown is not the Strip and the Strip is definitely not Downtown....

 

nobody mentioned bowling at the overpriced drag queen bar!

 

Now wait, are the drag queens overpriced or the bar or the bowling???

 

I like to play "Count the number of Bail Bonds Offices," while my wife appreciates the amount of tattoo artistry available throughout downtown. Her favorite joint is Atomic City Tattoo.

Higher brow visitors might enjoy these diversions however:

Try Fremont Street East bars

We went there over NYE weekend, and I intended to go over and check out several bars at Fremont Street East. However, I got sidetracked by my female cohorts to go to the OG instead (also downtown area) and then came back downtown to go to Golddiggers. Had fun everywhere...but still want to check out a few of the bars on the other ide of Fremont Street. Vegas Chatter has some good descriptions of them.

 

I always walk over to Cashman Field
when it's baseball season
and catch a AAA game !

Great place to watch a game! April-August season and some great specials on certain nights. Hard to beat dollar beer night!

Live music is starting to make an appearance downtown. Check out the schedule at beauty bar for local and national acts. Usually a low cover charge.

If you're feeling adventurous, walk further east, to check out those cool 60's motel signs, like the safari. Something fun to do is to take a bunch of photos, make them black and white for a fun display piece at home.

Take the mermaids drink challenge and try and finish a frozen drink. If you don't want to walk around with one of those foolish yard glasses or football glasses, they will kindly put it in a large Styrofoam cup.

Even if you don't gamble, slot golf can be a blast, and you can do it with low denom bills, like a $5 each machine. It's easy to cover 9 casinos to do a 'front 9' game. Search the board for rules. I pre-make my scorecards and bring them with, so I can customize the cards with the casino stops and player names. Makes for a fun way to see all the casinos.

Check out the shark tank at the nugget. Fun to watch folks slide through the tank.

There's a ton of fun stuff downtown, I love it!

 

Playing " spot the hooker" is fun. It gets better later. You probably wouldn't get hit on as much as an old guy though.:evillaugh

 

Did Mermaids ever run out of their Twinkie supply? If not, you could get a fried Twinkie

 

Theres always 2 bands playing at knight. The sideshows. people painting those cool pictures with news paper.

I am guessing they use a more "off" brand of twinkies than real twinkles. Cant say for sure, but I would think they have would be using something similar to maximize profits. Little debbie makes cloud cakes I believe that are exactly the same. SOmeone else makes Golden Creams.
