I'm a newbie on here so I'm hoping some of you can share some thoughts on laundry facilities near the MGM. We won't have a car, and it is just my mom and I so don't want to be stuck in a shady area of town either. Is there a laundry service that picks up/drops off clothes at your hotel? Or is there a laundromat within reasonable walking distance (with the clothes)? Any other options would be appreciated!

I can't tell you where there is a laundromat but I'm assuming you do know that all major hotels have laundry service. There is usually a plastic bag in the closet so you just fill out the form, leave it in your room and the maid will pick it us (I think-I have never used laundry service in a hotel). Don't know what it costs but I think that would be a better option than lugging your dirty clothes around trying to find a laundromat.

It is not an easy location, but there is a laundromat on Arville.

    Wizard of sudsClick for map.

This is the street that runs from in front of the Orleans between Tropicana and Flamingo. So you could take a 201 bus from the NYNY circle and get off at the Orleans and then the 104 Arville bus North, but it will take a while to do that.
I have often walked from the Orleans to Flamingo with my luggage rolling behind me, and got there before the 104 bus. It might take 30 minutes but I like it over the bus. And then there is busing or walking back to catch the 201 back to MGM.You can get quarters there and I think free soap comes with a roll of quarters. There is an old Ms/ Pacman to entertain you. It has never been crowded, but go during the day, the earlier the better.

To do this use one of your roller bags and pack it with the dirty stuff and then fold and pack it with the clean stuff. It is too long a walk to carry any weight.

It seems impractical in terms of time, but the neighborhood along Arville is fine with plenty of people working and plenty of cars and no shady sorts. And the laudromat is easy as well.

However, that is not what I would do.

I would pack clothes that you can easily hand wash along with a few plastic hangers and hand wash a few each night in the sink. Most clothes dry overnight. Heavy socks and underwear take perhaps two nights. Vegas is very dry so things dry easily and well. I pack a particularly light variety of shirts that wash up and dry in a few hours and carry a jacket or pul lover shirt that won't need washing for times when it is going to be cold or a casino seems chilly. A warm hat and scarf work wonders as well at this time of year.

I do my laundry before bed or before breakfast if I stay out to late. Don't let it pile up. A little each night gives you something to wear the next day.

If I did decide I had to have the laudromat, I'd make it a day when I wanted to see the Orleans and check my clean clothes suitcase with the Orleans Bellman on the way home, then go eat or gamble or see comedy or a show, or bowl at the Orleans. It breaks up the trip.

    My advise is....

Wash the item and hang it up in the shower. Use the hair blower to finish
drying the clothes item when it is almost dry.
If a blouse gets dirty with a spilled drink I wash it right away so it doesn't stain forever.
Pack poliester clothes because it dries real fast as compared to jeans.

There is a laundromat on the corner of Tropicana and Maryland Parkway. Take the 201 and cross back over Maryland Pkwy and you should see the laundromat in the corner of the strip mall. I used it when we were staying at Excalibur. There was a coffee place/deli on the same strip that was quite pleasant.

You can get a small bottle of laundry detergent at the CVS or Walgreens drug stores on the strip and, as others have mentioned, hand wash items and let them dry overnight. There is no public laundromat anywhere on the Strip, and it would be quite a haul trying to get your clothes back and forth on public transportation to a laundromat in a residential area - and unless you know where you are going, some neighborhoods in Las Vegas are very sketchy to say the least.

The only other option I would recommend is renting a car for a day (you can find some very cheap rates if you look well in advance) and use the car to get to the laundry facility. Since you would have a car anyway for the day, you could also use it to check out some other sights that you might not ordinarily get to see off the Strip.

Nice Pebbles. Thanks for this one. It beats the one on Arville from where they are staying. Does this look like the place?

Naturally, there would be one convenient for the college kids.
From that spot it is just a ten minute walk to
    Pinball Hall of Fame
    1610 East Tropicana Avenue
    Las Vegas, NV 89119

It is a 5 minute walk to:
    Crown & Anchor British Pub
    1350 East Tropicana Avenue
    Las Vegas, NV 89119

a British Pub where $20 of VP play will get you a free lunch with beer. Nice Shepard's pie.

I am going to book Eastside Cannery in the middle of the next trip and treat myself to laundered clothes because they have a coin laundry there, but I'd be tempted to access this place from downtown just because it is in a nice neighborhood. The WAX would get me to Tropicana and the 201 right up to Maryland. Or from in front of Binions the Centennial Express would get me to Del Mar and Maryland right at the campus. It is a 10 minute walk from there to the laudromat and I'm betting with a decent campus map, most of that ten minutes could be spent walking the campus and seeing the small desert gardens and blooming cactus or if they would check my bag at the desk, I'd visit the newly renovated Barrick Museum.

I like jeans but they don't really wash up that well in the room sinks. I have heard that Travelsmith sells some quick dry pants that would be much like the quick dry shirts I buy, but Travelsmith is expensive while my shirts are very cheap at a Florida Beall's Outlet .

That's the one Dewey. They have free WiFi.

If I remember correctly, the washers were slightly more expensive than WoS, but the dryers were less.

thank you everybody for all of your ideas! I think we will try our best to wash them in the sink to avoid public transportation if we can! Is there much closet/hanging up space in the MGM renovated rooms for drying? Thanks so much!

    Hello Pink

Pink, The clothes will never dry if you have them hanging in the closet. The air doesn't circulate much in a closet. Plus you will damage the floor with water as the clothes drip water on the floor. LOL.

Roll your clothing in a towel (esp if you travel with a microfiber towel, as I do) to remove as much water as possible, and you shouldn't drip:peace: But no, don't stick something in a closet and expect it to dry - hang it off a shower curtain (some hotels have clotheslines across a tub) Or on the back of a chair in the hotel room, etc. If you place clothing on upholstered furniture, use a towel underneath.

DON'T hang clothing on a lamp to speed drying. FIRE HAZARD. Bad idea.

I almost always end up washing at least a couple things (sometimes more, depends on the trip) But I'll wash a couple things a night - that way it doesn't take much time OR space. If you save it all up to do at once in your room, it's more of a hassle.

    more laundry advise

Pinky, When you take off clothes that needs to be washed.....just wash it right away. Use the hotel soap and wash the item.

You can use the hotel towels to help dry some of the wetness and then
hang them up in the shower rod or a clothes line if you see one.

Hang it over-night and in the morning just use your hair blower to finish up
drying the clothes that you washed.

Most hotels have irons and ironing boards. You can do a final dry of your clothes by using the iron to make sure the clothes item is dry if you need
to do a final drying. Just make sure it is okay to use the iron on delicate
    clothes.
    Lucy
