Rooms downtown?

Planning a trip in may and want to stay downtown. Already stayed at gn and gg. What's everyone's opinions on the rest pros and cons?

 

The D is newly remodeled. We stayed there last summer. Rooms were very comfortable. Will probably stay again next time.

 

Glad to hear about the D I stayed at the Fitz a couple years ago and the room was not very good at all...and I have pretty low standards.

I like the 4Q rooms (but not that weird scent they pump into the casino) and the Cal rooms.

 

just stayed at fremont last week and enjoyed it.

Easy up and down, clean.

The rooms are smaller but probably around gg sized.

People complain that the bathroom is small and can only fit one person but do you really want another person in there when you are using it? i dont.

I was really close to the canopy but the noise really wasnt that bad. i might have woken up once or twice and could hear muffled music but hinestly it was way worse at the plaza in summer.

i will gladly stay at fremont again.

 

I had my first stay Downtown last year and I enjoyed it, I stayed in El Cortez and the rooms were very comfortable and I would stay there again when stopping Downtomn

 

Our favorite downtown hotel is Main St Station. Ask for a room NOT facing the Interstate. Ambulances go by there all night long and they are noisy. We also like the Fremont. Rooms are decorated just like MSS. Elevators at Fremont are right in the casino and not a lot of walking. Golden Nugget is nice depending on which tower you are in. Can be a verrrry long walk to your elevators.

 

My favorite place is the Four Queens. Make sure you ask for a room in the South Tower..

 

I have stayed at the El Cortez and Gold Spike. Everyone likes and dislikes different things but I wouldn't hesitate to stay at either place. The EC is a block east of the FSE, it is safe, well lighted and monitored 24/7 by EC Security. I haven;t stayed at the newly reurbished Cabana Suites but have stayed at the Vintage rooms (how can you beat a price of $11.00/night). It was small but ideal for someone solo.There is no view tho. It was clean, meticulously maintained with no view. Access is from the casino, halls are smokey but had no problem inside the room. Once in awhile people had tv's on loud but it wasn't bad. 24 hour restaurant was good and reasonable. Coupon book gives you some freeplay and $5 off a meal at the steakhouse or cafe. The Tower Rooms are very spacious and available with queen or king. Rooms have a view of the mountains or the strip, windows open in BR which is a bit small. There is a safe and I requested a fridge for a med and they complied (both rooms). It is cmfortable and has a desk, and also a love seat in addition to the usual furnishing and heater and AC worked fine. Hotel staff were all great from the folks at registration desk to housekeeping and maintenance. Lots of security, you need a key to use elevator ad is floor specific. There is also a Subway in the lobby. You also avoid the noise and lights of the FSE. Biggest complaint is that they only allow you to stay 7 nights without a stiff penalty, and I usually stay 8 or 9 nights and I hate moving hotel to hote. They also have a free shuttle to the airport. Internet is 11.99 / day, but you can go across the street to the coffee shop (The Beat) and use their free wifi if you get a cup of coffee or more. There is a deli and grocery store across the street, plenty of parking in their garage, and a dollar store between the EC and the FSE on Fremont street.

The Gold Spike rooms are small but they are well maintained, clean, and comfo, maybe a bit cramped if you are a couple and spend a lot of time in your room. I find the location a block north of the FSE similar to EC away from the noise and lights of FSE but safe and an easy walk. No view, and theyh have vertical blinds so if you need pitch dark to sleep, you may find that annoying. I have stayed there 3 times and can't get over how quiet it is there, never hear people come and go, even during Nascar weekend. Staff is friendly and helpful. Prices are good but there is a tax and resort fee but include internet access which is good and high speed. Once I stayed there just fri and sat and it was about $45/night but cheaper if the stay is longer. Last 2 stay's I booked thru Kayak but this year they were 404.00 for 8 nights and I called the hotel and got the same dates for 253.00 including tax and resort fee! If you call the desk call several times on different shifts ; I found that they have different rates and I guess the person can quote you one of several. Keep notes ans say you want to stay from x to y, and can you still get the (whatever the best rate quoted was and by whom). I also enjoy their 24 hour restaurant for a good and reasonable breakfast or lunch.

Beds were comfortable at both places and they come without the traditional bed spread (I prefer the washable ones that are new to each guest).
I don't know how they compare to the other hotels. My first stay downtown was at Fitzgeralds and I had no problems there. Good luck and enjoy. I love staying downtown, and you can catch the WAX from ground Zero at the airport and be downtown in 28 minutes for $2.00 ($1 for us old Geezers).

I really enjoyed staying at the Fremont as it is right in the middle of everything, but the bathroom there is way too tiny for my wife, who is much happier at GN. Happy wife, happy life as they say. But I would stay at Fremont again without hesitation.

Is this because of noise or are the rooms nicer in the south tower?

 

Yes, I think they are. They are larger and just have a newer feel to them.
