Just looking for a ball park here, how many hands per hour would you say a real casual player like me, somewhat regularily referencing his strategy cards and drinking his beer, would average. 400?

Yes, if you have some experience with VP and can play without needing to check your strategy card every hand then 400 hands per hour is probably about right.

Cool I'm no pro I only play during my 1-2 trips to vegas a year but the easy ones are the easy ones...til you're 12 beers in then it's the squidward strategy anyways.

Depending on how the trip goes I might try to hit saphire at boyd and wanted to do the math see if it's feasable.

Do the math before those 12 beers, :D. I also love VP and can play for hours and hours. Good luck in hitting saphire. I am not familiar with Boyds program, does saphire give you that much extra?

By doing some observations of the points meter (that shows how many card points you are earning), you can write this down before and after 1 hour and figure it out exactly. You just need to observe how many hands you have to play to earn one point (and don't vary your bet for that hour). Often it is $5 through for one point, but it might be something less (like $10 or $20 for 1 point) on VP.

At Boyd, $1 in equals 1 point. At MSS there some 100% + VP machines on the floor that require $2 in for 1 point and they actually have a little sign stating that. Everything at the bar is $1 = 1 point.

I am not sure that sapphire gets you anything amazing, thought thought it would be something fun to shoot for and concentrate more play at Boyd rather than playing stupid slots I know I shouldn't be playing all over :). Honestly they give me a couple free nights now for my play which for me is all I really want or need. One other factor is Boyd bought a casino about 90 minutes from here that I somewhat frequent locally and I figure/hope their players club will get rolled into BConnected in the next year. So bottom line I am not super set on making Sapphire, but am going to think about it.

Good call on just doing the math after an hour! And I generally don't vary my bets on VP. $0.25 is all I can really afford. (I did hit my lone royal in my life playing 50cent Pick Em on a multi Denominational machine locally, the choice to be playing 50c was a 12 beers in decision and it paid off ha).

Joe, yeah that was my understanding on points at Boyd, although they seem to have scrubbed that information from their new BConnected site.

One benefit of Sapphire is that for every tier point you earn, you get double "slot" points. Those can be cashed out for cash, or used to buy food, beverage or at the gift shops, all at a 40 % discount.

I don't recommend this but at some of the Boyd places, Cal & Suncoast for example, you can download your Slot points directly into the machine while playing. I think the 40% discount is a much better deal.:poke:

At the Emerald level it is triple points. At Ruby, the entry level, it is one to one.
