My wife and I spent three days at GVR. She got three nights comped - $50 food credit and $100 free play. She played 30 + hours and between $10 - $100 betting blackjack, 3 card poker table games. She lost $3800...Twice we asked for meals - the first the host said just put it on the hotel bill and we'll cover it at checkout. The second the host gave her $30 food for Tides.
So at checkout we are presented a bill for $100+ - $85 for food and $15 for internet. We asked why "internet fee" - the checkout girl said "if you are comped the resort fee (which includes internet) you have to pay for the internet fee (no - we we not using the high speed internet, just the regular)
WHAT!!! so after rangling she took off the $15 internet fee....now to the comps. She calls down to the host or who is working the desk and he can't comp her play, but can take points from her account....OK....so they clear the bill. We leave happy---
The next day I check my points and they took the charges from my account ($85) apparently our accounts are linked. So for 30+ hours play, $10- $100 betting you get $30 in food comps at GVR (Great Value Rip-off) and they raid my account without asking.
Yes, I called our host - Peter - the next day and of course have not heard back.
Now we go to Vegas 10 times a year - for 20 years - playing at CET (both of us are Diamond), Boyd primarily and never have we had to pay for a room or a meal..
but the two times we've played a GVR they screw us with the bill at checkout. It's small money but still....
So we are done with them and lesson learned...
Screw us once shame on you - screw us twice shame on us....
    We are done with them

I have heard similar stories about GVR from a couple friends. They also stopped going there. Too many narrow-minded bean counters ....

I had to go there for a business trip last spring for 1 night. Played some $1 DDB for 3 or 4 hours and blackjack for about an hour or two at ~$100 per hand. I wasnt looking to stay there in the future at all. A host there sends me an unsolicited email and then calls me and asks me to stay there for SB. I say, "ok, i will need 3 nights for me, and 3 nights for a buddy of mine who is also a gambler". The host says, ok! I get an email the next day saying I will get comped 2 nights and my buddy none. So, I blew it off. I got a vm from the same host yesterday saying he just needs my cc to book the room. WTF? I dont think so.

There are a crapload of places that will treat you real good for that kind of play, find one, what was so great about that place anyway?

I only been to GVR once for a few hours and I'm shocked to read what you went thru. How many points did they take? You said your wife played between $10 and $100. What was she rated at? $15 rating isn't going to get you much but $75 would. Your post is somewhat vague on actual ratings and coin-in.

Have you stayed at Sunset Station? I rarely can leave the table without being asked if I want the buffet. Sadly my host just left Sunset a few weeks ago and I've not been back since labor day otherwise I'd give you has contact info.

I think part of the problem is GVR is one of stations "Cash Cows" so they are very stingy with the comps. Based on your play you should have gotten more. I see that you play at Boyd properties as well, good choice. My level of play is far lower than yours and Boyd has given me way more than GVR gave you. Maybe Station doesn't deserve your business. Sorry about the lousy experience.

We have been going to RR and GVR for years. Husband is President level and we have never had problems getting free rooms. We have been invited and gone to RR for the last three years for Super Bowl. Although our trips to Vegas and play have increased, we got no invites for either prop this year. We called a host at both places and were given the runaround. I think it's time to say "goodbye" to RR and GVR. Sad for me to say that because we love both places. Guess it's back to CET and Mlife, both of whom treat us better than Stations.

She probably was at $40 - $45 average. but with 30+ hours that should be healthy time/aver in...

We do like the property - I especially like the Spa, the VP; my wife likes the progressives on the three card poker table games and the food at Suchi-Sake. So ther are pluses there, but its off strip and that's a drawback too....

I'm one of the friends Buddha mentioned who got screwed at GVR. I rec'd an offer for nights at $29 each and booked those then booked 3 nights comped at Flamingo. I rented a car solely because I was staying off strip at GVR ranch, so there was additional cost involved.

I wasn't getting mailers from stations, but could see in my online account that I had a number of free buffet coupons, which specifically stated they were valid at GVR as well. I emailed a host asking why I might not be getting mail from them and they had entered my mailing address incorrectly. Since my trip was coming up in a few days, he said I could print out the online offers and show them to the players club, explain about THEIR address error, and they would issue the buffet vouchers. I printed his email as well.

I took the printed offers to the players club and they wouldn't give me vouchers. I showed them the hosts email, he wasn't there, so they called another host. She REFUSED to even look at the email the other host had sent and flatly refused the buffet vouchers. I was treated as if I was trying to steal from them. I decided right then I was gone.

I called the Flamingo the next morning and they happily offered me 5 nights comped in a GO room instead of the 3. I then went to checkout of GVR. I had the $29 for one night plus $25 resort fee on my bill and asked the checkout clerk to apply points. She said she couldn't. I then asked her to call a host and ask how to get points applied. The host said they couldn't. I paid the bill via credit card.

I later found out (on the LVA board) that I could have went to the players club as asked for the amount in a voucher using my points, then I could have taken the voucher to the checkout person. However, I had to learn that on a Vegas chat board because neither the checkout person NOR the host could tell me that, or gave a shit for that matter. Not my fault their system was founded in the middle ages, nor that their staff either doesn't understand it as well as chat board members.

I was never so glad to leave a place in Vegas. And I was cheerfully welcomed at Flamingo and rec'd the great customer sevice I always get there. GVR is the land of "NO" and that's the last thing I need on vacation.

The best part is I won $800 in their casino the one night I was there, not much to them, but a moral victory for me.

I greatly resented being treated like I was trying to get something I wasn't OFFERED. I couldn't wait to fill out the survey they emailed me a week later and was personally called by a host saying he would like me to contact him directly before my next trip, he'd like a chance to make it right. I thanked him for the followup, but knew I would never ever return. That kind of attitude I encounted from (3) different people is obviously part of the culture and I will just stay where I'm treated warmly. And I will tell anyone who will listen.

I'm sorry they put a damper on your vacation, but your story doesn't surprise me at all from personal experience.

In the interest of full disclosure, the GVR is a beautiful property. The pool is very nice. The lobby, landscaping, everything really was gorgeous! My room was very nice, but I could hear my neighbors going at it like 2 teenagers on prom night. Except they didnt finish after 10 minutes. They are amazing! I almost asked them to either finish up or let me join them or else none of us will ever get any sleep with these razor thin walls. The VP paytables are good there. Drink service was pretty good. The main issue is it isnt close to any other casinos. So, if you like to casino hop, you are stuck.

That's yet another reason for me taking my business to Boyd and never looking back. Your comment was hilarious!

We had our company Xmas party at GVR. in the convention center. For a party of 800 people they had 1 bar and 2 bar tenders. The line to get our free drink went to Summerlin.
The tables were set up in 12 person rounds with 1 server per 5 tables. Then to top it off, the food was so bad, we couldn't eat it. The steamed veggies were raw, the steam ship round was so tough, we couldn't chew it. The baked chicken was raw.
It was by far a huge waste of money for our company. We will NEVER EVER have our party there again.

Jim and I tried to stay there once with a comped room, we did the VIP check in desk and I even called the night before as I wanted to see if they were booked solid or do they
think they could have a room available for early check-in. The front desk person I spoke to at that time, told me they were 50% occupied and getting an early check-in should be no problem. We got there at 10:30AM the next day, and were told there wasn't a room ready, and they didn't know when one would be. The whole idea of checking in early was to go out to the pool and enjoy a relaxing day poolside. We decided at that time, that if this was the way they treated the VIP Chairman that we don't go there. We walked out and told the VIP desk exactly what she could do with her "I don't know" answer and our room.

The property is beautiful, it is a shame that the staff at the front desk and in convention services are such idiots.
