I am thinking of staying at MGM in march in one is their new "suites". Always stayed at a CET property but just want to try something new and was wondering what people thought is that property

    Great for anyone under 40.

Over 40 people might feel uncomfortable. A lot of young partiers.

Its me and my two buddies and we are about 30. And the nice thing is two people can get their own bed and the other guy can grab the couch

i stayed in the queen bed suite once. They really nice and worth the couple extra bucks over a standard room. Only one caveat is that they can't guarantee the 2 queens and u might possibly get stuck with a king bed.
But the room was actually really nice. 2 flat screen tvs(1 by the beds and one by the couch area). The overall square footage is bigger so You get a little extra area to throw your luggage and stuff. The couch is a little bit firm and will probably be uncomfortable but it beats sleeping on the floor or sharing a bed.
The bathroom is slightly bigger than a standard room. It has a double sink and a seperate tub and stand alone shower.
As for the property itself. It is big with lots of gaming options. There should be no reason you cant find a table to play at any time of day. There are really good food option (big fan of wolfgang pucks and they are open late night-- i remember getting a bite to eat there at 4:30am after getting in), the studio cafe is definately overpriced for diner food, but the buffet is well worth the money in my opinion.
If the pools are open, it is huge and very nice. Might be packed but you should be able to find a seat somewhere. Drinks are a little pricey at the pool but you are allowed to bring your own drinks as long as they are in a plastic cup (so you can grab one of those refillable drink cups / giant margarita cups and making your own drinks in your room and bring it down with you).
A lot of people tend to complain about the size of the MGM but i dont really think its all that bad. You get used to it once you get acclimated to the place and you easily find your way around.

I am getting a good deal on the suite, I am using a free upgrade to a suite using a myvegas reward certificate. And I got a bed either way since I booked everything the other two can spoon on the couch for all I care

the couch is a sectional so worst case they can each have a side to sleep on.

I used the AAA promo on MGM website and booked a regular room, called the number on the certificate to upgrade and they upgraded my current reservation to a suite. Saved me like $300

Did you only need one certificate to upgrade your entire trip to the suite or did you need a certificate for every night?

We used to stay there each trip until they cut back on offers and have excluded us. A lot probably was due to us just sleeping there.

We never ate there as we didn't like their food choices.
We would gamble at NYNY and Excalibur in stead of MGM as they didn't seem to have a good selection of slots.

The location was great for the monorail as we used to use it frequently.

Getting to/from the room tends to be far.

Not a good selection of slots? Holy crap it seems to me there's a billion slot machines there. But whatever. Everyone has there favorite place to go. If you don't like to gamble there, why stay there anyway.

    +1, Gregsmt

I have a soft spot for the MGM as it was where we stayed on my first Vegas adventure. IMO it is one of the best casinos in Vegas based on size, layout, game selection and table minimums. The Wizard of Odds website lists MGM as having 2,470 slots, so you should be able to find whatever game you are looking for.

With all due respect, I doubt they'll miss you... and by that, I'm not tryin' to be a smart-a#@, I just think it's "wrong" to use a property for the "offer" and play elsewhere. I'm insulated from this, as my association pays for my room during my Vegas business visits which are the bulk of my travel there, so perhaps I'd feel different if I was paying the freight. I also know I'm in the minority here, as I also think it's "wrong" to sign-up for the Southwest credit-card, get the points, take the flight, then cancel the card. I just think there's a bit of an "expectation" that should be met in accepting an offer, though again I fully realize "technically and legally" there's nothing wrong. I admire honest frugality (if that's a word) but, I think it comes off as bein' a "cheap-skate".

To the OP... IMHO, the MGM remains one of the prime "go to" spots on the Strip.

Is there anywhere near MGM to buy a case of beer for the room?

There's a Rebel convenience-mart right behind the parking garage on Tropicana/Koval and an ABC store on Las Vegas Blvd (just north of the MGM).

I love MGM Grand, and it was my original go-place to stay; however, the implementation of the resort fee forced me to look elsewhere. I'd love to stay there again, but it's difficult to turn my back on the comps I get at Flamingo. They save me a LOT of money.

I have stayed at MGM at least 40 times in my life. Great property, great restaurants, great vibe, great staff. I think you will enjoy MGM very much.

I stayed in one of the remodeled rooms this past May and was very impressed. I would stay there on my next trip but the wife loves Planet Hollywood and you got to keep the boss happy.
