I am going to Vegas in February, for my 2nd Vegas trip. I play only slots, mostly because I don't really like blackjack, and also because Minnesota doesn't have live table games other then blackjack.

I have always wanted to play roulette, but was to scared to step up to a table last time I was in Vegas, but this time I am ready.

Because I'm new to it, and not sure if I will like it or not I am only willing to buy in for $500, but would like to bet $100 a spin. Is there any way I can have some number bets for a high pay out chance, but yet have some smaller odd bets where I might be able to get some of the $100 back each spin.

I really have no clue, but would really appreciate any help, tips, or strategies(lucky numbers would be fun to compare as well)

Betting 1/5th of your total buy-in on each spin is a quick way to have 5 minutes of fun and only 5 minutes of fun. If I was buying in for $500 I'd be willing to risk $25 or maybe $40 a spin, no more.

The beauty of roulette is that all bets are equally bad :grrr: Excepting the 0/00/1/2/3 bet (which is worse), everything carries a 5.26% house edge. One way to stay in the game a long time is to restrict your play to red/black odd/even or the 'thirds', as you'll get paid relatively frequently. But any and all combinations are possible and fun; people spread them out in all sorts of ways with combinations of single numbers, squares of 4 and/or the columns or rows or any other setup you can imagine.

For staying power and enjoyment I cover 10 numbers and they are contiguous numbers. It's just under 1/3 of the wheel and you need to hit 2 of 7 to keep even. And contiguous so all I have to watch is the ball hitting an area not individual numbers(5,7,11,15,17,20,22,30,32,34). So $5 a number is a $50bet and a payout of $175 per hit. But like Wrongway said, every bet is exactly the same. It all depends what kind of payout odds you want and how patient you are at the table. I like odds and 35-1 is nice(with 5 numbers you need 1 win in 7, 10 numbers you need 2 wins in 7).

Great to play when you are drinking because you can literally throw the money on the table and the odds of the bet is the same.

Some good advice, especially the part of not blowing all your money in a few spins.

If you hang here long enough, somebody will come along with a sure fire way to beat the wheel. And, they will truly believe they can do it. And, they often are looking for investors in their plan. Go figure!?

My advice would be to find a table that only has a single 0 and no 00 and play on it. The odds are better on this table than one with both of the green 0's.

Here is how I do roulette, and this approach seems to fit what you are looking for.

I spread 35 units across 13 numbers. 13/38 means you should hit on approx 1 out of 3 spins. The number of units per # varies, allowing for some big hits like you mentioned, and some break evens. I'll also throw some extras on if I'm winning or pull back to 20 units if I'm losing or sometimes start at 20 units until I get a feel for the table.

I also use a contiguous section approach, with a couple "contrarians" thrown in there.

Here is my base 20-unit bet:

    4 units on #17
    2 units on #20, #32, #5
    3 units on #0/#00 split
    1 unit on #22, #7, #34, #28, #29, #31, #2

when I jack it up to 35-units

    7 units on #17
    4 units on #20, #32
    3 units on #5, #2, #28,#0, #0/#00 split
    1 unit on #22, #7, #34, #29, #31

and sometimes I'll jack up some of the numbers. Occasionally if zeroes haven't hit on the entire board I'll bet more on my #0/#00 split and add in #1 and #27 as they are adjacent to #00.

The secret to roulette is HIT & RUN. (aka play as little of it as possible). I would highly recommend sticking to the 20-unit play on $1 chips with a $500 buy in until you get ahead, then get a little crazy with the winnings, but drop back down if you lose back below $500. This gives you at least some longevity of play if things are going against you, but still the chance for a big hit if you get ahead and press.

I did this system yesterday with $5 units and first spin was a #18, I lost $175. Second spin was a #7, I broke even, 3rd spin I doubled down on my 35-unit bet and hit a #2 with $30 straight up for a $1,050 payout. I cashed out and left the casino.

Here is another little spin where I went big right off and actually played only one single $2,700 winning spin.

and an old classic hit, also 1 spin and out, just to show you what "can" happen....:wink2:.....

If you want to play $500 on red or black only, this advice will greatly improve your odds. Aria and Bellagio have single 0 tables on the main floor, I believe $50 min bet outside, maybe $25 during slow times. This truly is the best paying roulette strategy, however to me its not the same game as the large hits are out of the equation and it basically becomes a 50/50 bet like BJ, Craps, Bacc. I need that 35-1 to get the juices really flowing...

I like to play like this:

5 dollars on black. All the time.

Watch the numbers the ball lands in. If the ball lands on any of these numbers, bet that group for three spins: (straight up)
    10, 11, 12, 14, 15.
    15, 16, 18, 19, 20.
    25, 26, 28, 29, 30.

Seems to work pretty well when I practice on-line. This past trip I tried it at MSS and I did well, to the point where I had all the dealer's chips of my color and she started paying me with regular casino chips.

I only tried this once for real so I don't know if I was just lucky. i probably was, lol!

Found this "system" on one of the roulette websites. Can't remember who the author of this system was...

The best tip for playing roulette is "Play Blackjack." :evillaugh:

That said, any "system" is going to be fatally flawed and worthless, otherwise there would be lots more millionaires coming out of casinos and they would be banned in a heartbeat. So play any way that makes you feel comfortable. Personally, when I feel the urge, I bet single units on a handful of inside numbers, birthdays, lucky numbers and the like. Then I add the zeroes and watch the little ball spin around. Hint: totally ignore the sign that tells you what the last 15 spins produced. That's the biggest psychological come-on in the casino.

That house edge is pretty small compared to my slots:evillaugh .... Although I want to be able to play a while, I also want to try experience some bigger hits as well. So the red/black is kind of a small return from what I've read, but I think I will still stick a chip on or the other each spin.

That is an aspect of the game I liked, that it seems like a game you can drink and talk a lot during the play. Now I'm assuming when you say contiguous numbers you don't mean 1-2-3-4-5, but in order of how they are placed on the wheel?

Does anyone know of any places Downtown that has a single 0 table? I will mostly be staying downtown, except for one night of gambling at the Cosmo.

Now here is what I was looking for  .. I am hoping for one of the big hits, that will put me ahead for a couple days hopefully, or allow me to push it a little harder. Now when you say use the 20 unit with $1 chips, are you saying only a $20 bet, or can I bet $5 a unit for $100 bet? Do you ever throw anything on red or black though? I have seen people place chips on the corners of 4 numbers that are in a square what does this mean?

The number screen in some peoples eyes is golden, while the other half tell you never to look at it, so its a 50/50 there. I definitely will check out the numbers that are rolling, and maybe try one round like you suggest and see if I can hit.

Blackjack just doesn't have the high enough odds to win something substantial without having to grind out atleast an hours worth of play on. I know the blackjack following is huge though, and there must be some sort of excitement over there:rolleyes2:

Yes, adjacent on the wheel. It's alot easier to get excited when you see the ball drop on your side of the wheel instead of having to wait for the call. Just google-image an american roulette wheel and you can pick your own set of numbers.

If you want to cover 10 numbers but be 180 degrees apart or have 5 number chunks on each side then bet splits 5/6 17/18 19/22 20/21 32/31. A roulette wheel is designed a specific way, it's wasn't designed by chance. You can cover two numbers 180 degrees apart by splitting them on the table.

You'd think, but there is so much chip placement frenzy taking place on a busy table, that not too many people talk alot. But drinking, it's perfect.

I also forgot to ask, are there any betting etiquette? What if someone else has place a bet on your number, and there is no room for your chips?

That's the reason you are issued different colored chips. Just place yours directly on top of theirs; this is common and not a problem.

If you can't reach any of the numbers, just nicely ask the dealer and he/she will put the chip on for you. This is handy when the table is packed.

If you smoke, try not to blow it in anybody's face, especially the dealers! :wink2:
