no kidding. My divorce was easy as far as agreeing with my ex, but the paperwork was a huge red tape nightmare. We had the simplest divorce possible in terms of the paperwork and did it without a lawyer, but it still took several trips to the courthouse and we even had our paperwork rejected and sent back by mail, because we didn't properly staple it. It's a frustrating process, but worth it.
Try getting one with someone you aren't exactly in full agreement with... plus kids. That's a slow road through hell.
A lawyer will be the only one on your side during this. I mean the only one including the courts. Its worth spending money on.
matguy- yeah, no kidding. We kept saying how lucky we were that we didn't have kids or property in the mix and we were getting along enough to agree with everything regarding the divorce. I know many people with horrendous divorces and i can't imagine dealing with the red tape on top of it.
Thank you everyone. I do not think we will disagree, no kids, but so final. And I am female so not interested in the SIL.
I read your posts often, this is far and away the smartest thing I have heard you say! So, so, so true. Folks trying to get by on the cheap for a lawyer, will get what they are paying for as well!
Over my lifetime I've seen lots of divorces from my parents to my sister, my brother, 2 nieces and multiple cousins marrying and divorcing multiple times. I've learned something from all this... So to them I say; Thank You!!! No Wife -- No Kids -- No Debt!
