    Intro

Great message board you have here! My wife and I are making our first visit to Vegas in 4 weeks. It will be a 5 day trip staying downtown and will include a rental car. I am more the "over plan" type, but I really prefer to look ahead and see what is between point A and B that we may miss if we just drive. One day will be a Lake Mead drive to Hoover, and include some Boulder Hwy. stops along the way. Also planning 2 evening visits to see the strip, but really like the idea of gambling at the off strip and downtown locations. I was in AC once but my wife has only been to the NA casinos we have here. One of them is over 100K sq. ft. but still not the same as what we are about to behold.

A couple of the items I have seen only a minor amount of posts for here are the car rental company (Fox) and separate rental insurance. Since my cars are paid for, I only carry liability and comp insurance so I have purchased rental insurance through a site called "protectyourbubble.com" for $8/day to cma for any accident. I will leave feedback about those after the trip.

My wife thinks I am anal as I already have our first day planned to go from the rental agency to a Walmart a few miles away to buy a styrofoam cooler, bottled water and snacks to have at the motel. Then we go to the Silverton for the $5 Monday buffet and then the Palms to use a $50 for $25 coin match play. We can always change plans, but I guess I figure you can not plan without the information in front of you.

Anyway, great site and thanks for all the helpful information.

Where are you staying downtown? Main Street Station has refrigerators in every room. I think some of the others do also.

    Welcome fellow cheesehead.
Use you plan as a guide and open to change,
you'll find things in Las Vegas more time consuming than WI.

Thanks for the welcome. We are staying at the 4 Queens and I don't think they have refrigerators. Getting the cooler so we can have it along for the car trips also. I figure every dollar I don't spend on bottled water is another I can play. The plan is just for a general direction and best sequence to see things in, but will always be open to adjustments.

    downtown

Hi I think there is a Walgreen's downtown, and if that is the case just go there for your supplies, save time and gas and enjoy Vegas...
We love the senior buffet at Silverton on Mondays.
We are from Wisconsin so do hit up some of the casinos we have here, practice for the Vegas/Reno area.
Enjoy your trip, NO snow and all the fun! char

    Hello from Wisconsin

My wife and I get plenty of practice at the Ho Chunk casinos here in Wisconsin. We will now be taking our fourth trip to Vegas staying at Bally's. We have had more fun walking the strip, eating at different places, seeing new shows, and spending a small amount on slots. Our first year we walked the entire strip and stopped at each casino to check it out. That was when we were young, physically fit, and foolish. We know you are going to have a great time no matter what is on your agenda. This site is the greatest for getting answers to any questions you might have. We all wish you a safe and happy trip.

Welcome to another Wisconsinite! I love staying at the Four Queens. Ask to be for a room in the South Tower.

Thanks. Is there a reason you recommend the south tower?

Love your countdown timer, we will be arriving the 14th and leaving the 18th of Jan.

It's quieter. I emailed my brother for a recommendation because he even goes so far to request certain floors in the South Tower and then even specific room numbers on each of those floors. He's a bit anal.:wink2:

Quit is not critical, we have plenty of quiet here. We will have the following weekend to catch up on sleep. As for certain rooms, I have only done that when I stay at a place more than once. I sleep terribly the first night in a motel, so when I was traveling I would get rooms that were laid out in the same (bathroom and bed same relative direction from the door) so the room had a familiar feel. Always made it easier to get used to. I welcome any input he has as well. Us anal OCD types must stick together. :goofy:
