Is your significant other an ideal Vegas companion?

The thread about traveling solo got me thinking about this. I read a lot of trip reports where people are traveling with spouses or partners who have very similar Vegas styles to themselves, and others where they don't - e.g. one likes to gamble but the other wants to just do other things.

How good of a match is your significant other strictly in terms of your Vegas style?

My first wife of 24 years hated gambling. Her dad lost two homes because of his problem. When she did go with me, I'd give her $100 to gamble with and she always had $80 left when we got home.

My present wife of 14 years and I met at the race track. We both love to gamble and have a great time together. We even drove to Vegas 7 weekends in a row on one spell. Her grown daughter unexpectedly passed away and Vegas was the only thing that kind of took her mind off of it for short periods of time. Her crying made me cry so it was good for the both of us.

Perfect, we agree on almost everything, although she doesn't play craps. But, I've come to love video poker and we play together almost all the time.

Not perfect, but close. We both love to gamble and both love video poker. But sometimes I've had enough and he doesn't want to give up; we've had some big disagreements over this so we made a rule that, if we're not at our hotel, the person who wants to leave takes the rental car back and the person who wants to continue gambling has to find his/her own way back.

Yes he is. Thank God! It's one of his redeeming qualities. (He can be a pain in the tuckus at home.)

We're not attached at the hip, at home or Vegas. We can spend a few hours apart and it's fine. We have a story about what we did when we meet up again. We usually play slots within range of each other if not side by side. We like buffets because we can try different things maybe the other one doesn't like. I like the pool so he explores or gambles during that time.

If you end up in Vegas with somebody who is NOT a "Vegas Buddy" boy do you ever know it. Makes everything so hard. A good Vegas Buddy just rolls with it and makes things easy. I'm very grateful my husband is an excellent Vegas Buddy.

My wife and I are a terrific fit. We both love the getaway and enjoy gaming, drinking and just having a great time in a nice hotel. We play VP together alot as well as UTH and BTH. We are rarely apart when we game, usually when I want to play roulette (it's the only game we don't share a love for). The romance we enjoy after 30 years is unbelievable when we get away from the kids and are just a couple again, so we try at least once a month to get to a hotel/casino, where we are like teenagers again. She dresses to kill and I love to be the killed. :licklips:

I always said a casino is like the fountain of youth. When we walk into the place we are no longer parents, homeowners, employees, bill payers, we are just two lovers enjoying a carefree time. It's awesome, no wonder it's our goal to retire in LV.

Nicky that's awesome. You're a lucky man. My current girlfriend seems to fit that mold as well. I should probably put a ring on her finger like she not-so-subtly keeps hinting! :rolleyes2:

Yes, I'm very lucky, thanks. And if you find a girl that is a romantic and can be your buddy too then you should put a ring on her. My wife is my high school sweetheart. my old age sweetheart, and in between the mother of my 4 kids, and it's been fabulous.

Not really very good at all... she loves to gamble, but does plenty of that here at home in northern Nevada. I, on the other hand, almost never gamble up here unless we have a visitor from out of the area or something like that. My wife also HATES to fly and though it's a very short flight for us, the Reno airport is often bumpy in and out and it "flips" her out. Now on the couple occasions I've gotten her to join me, we've had a lotta fun together.

That was quite a moving experience. Sorry for your loss, and hope those wounds have healed a bit. Nice to have something you could share to get through the tough time a little easier. Thank you for sharing, Don....

My boo and I are a perfect match. We both enjoy gambling on slots while having a bunch of lovely drinks. We usually want to take a break and go walk around at the same time. The only difference is he is into the High Roller slots...that's too rich for my blood!

My wife and I are complete opposites when it comes to gambling. When we first enter a casino we check our watches and meet up at a designated spot hours later. I like jumping around between video poker and the tables, she'll sit at one slot machine for hours on end. She gets way more comps than I do probably because she is at the same machine with her card stuck in it for several hours while I'm hopping around.

Man, I'd much much much rather be in Vegas with Terri than solo, and I've had lots of solo excursions (which are fun, too). We both like the same stuff and if on a particular day one of us isn't in to golf or spa or shopping, we easily go do our thing for a bit and reconvene. (I tend to play more VP when together since that's really her sole game.) And we like to keep scheduling to an absolute bare-bones minimum; it's vacay, not the freakin' Normandy Invasion.

I don't have as much fun in Vegas with anyone else compared to my husband. We are a perfect fit. We each do our own thing and meet up when one of us is done. I play mostly slots and bartop VP and he plays tables. I agree with Nick on what he said about his wife. I've been to Vegas solo and I've been to Vegas with other people. Always fun, but never the same as just with hubbie. We never argue in Vegas unless he tells me to slow down my drinking, lol. In Vegas we aren't employees, employers, mom and dad, son or daughter, neighbor, etc. just friends and lovers. We dress differently, act differently and generally have a great time. I swear people wouldn't recognize us if they saw us there. Gotta love it. We too, want to retire there. I just feel like I am at home there.

No, no, no. My husband hates Las Vegas. He hates to gamble, doesn't drink much and is bored out of his mind there. We went together once and we were both miserable. So, I go every year with my girlfriends and have a great time. We've been married 35 years so it works for us.
PS Hubby was just in Las Vegas this week for a five day conference. In five days he didn't gamble one cent.

Absolutely! We both enjoy gambling side by side in addition to heading out in different directions. As we near the beginning our empty nest years, my wife, of 26+years, and I look forward to making more trips to Vegas together.

Well ... after 46 years together, I think my wife and I are a pretty good fit. She looks forward to our Vegas trips just as much as I do. She keeps a Vegas bankroll account, just like I do ... we both like to play video poker ... we both do casino coupons ... we enjoy the same types of entertainment & dining ... and we love saving money. No other vacations elsewhere have ever been so inexpensive ... as none of those places pass out the comps & coupons like Vegas.
