It's funny when a hotel or venue is named horribly, we voice our displeasure.

But what about when they are so aptly or wonderfully named?

I think for example The Signature at MGM is such an epic name...very much about style, class, and finesse. You can only have one signature. It's also amazing to have a signature quality.

Is there a hotel or venue that you think is well-named?

I think Disney does a good job with all of their naming on their resorts. Wilderness Lodge, Yacht & Beach Club, etc.

Others, like Gaylord props - Texan, Opry, etc., not so much.

In Vegas I think IP should have changed to Capri vs. Quad but I understand the 'young people' logic with it.

I'm glad the Flamingo has stuck to it's naming. I kind of wish Ballys had a different name though for some reason.

Before the Twin Wynn monstrosity ... Desert Inn.

Mirage was way awesomest when Mirage looked like Mirage. Now it's like any other angsty mod-hip joint. Treasure Island was apt, too, before some loons destroyed the show, got rid of Buccaneer Bay Club and put a freakin' cowboy bar in front.

There. Grumpy Old Man in the house.

Golden Nugget. It's fitting. They are keeping it current. And it has a great tie-in to the past.

P.S. When you think about it, Red Rock Resort is matter-of-fact and dead on.

    ...and some don't.

I like that the Flamingo has kept their original "signature". When I see pictures from the Bugsy days, the logo is the same.

+1 on The Desert Inn. I like the fact that Caesars Palace is not Caesar's Palace. Jay Sarno, the brainchild behind Caesars and Circus Circus, did not want Caesars to be in the possessive tense, but rather in the plural. His reasoning was that every man could be a Caesar there. True story and one of the little subtleties that make Vegas, well, Vegas......:peace:

I'm a nurse, the Quad is not a name I would have chosen.

I like Excalibur & the Luxor for names for Vegas hotels.

I think 'Encore" was an awesome name for a second tower at Wynn.

A good chunk of the Vegas ones have silly names, I mean Vdara what does that even mean? Everytime I mention it to someone they go WHAT is that?

Also Mandalay Bay.. what is that? Any undertones they have there are so vague it doesn't make sense.

I like Trump and Wynn because I relate both of those men to luxury.. so not bad to name the hotels after themselves.

Mandalay is a city in the center of Burma (Myanmar). Thus the tropical theme, (which has been toned down since inception.)

My favorite Vegas hotel name is Stardust. I never even went there before it closed but I just think its a great name for a casino.

For Vegas I like a lot of the kitschy names because its the only place where they'd work. They would sound ridiculous in any other city but in Vegas they're all part of the kitsch that permeates everything about the city. You can't put lipstick on a pig so I don't know why they keep trying.

I always really liked Steve Wynn and miss the days of Mirage Resorts (Nugget/Mirage/TI/Bellagio)... met him twice while briefly working at TI in '98 and still see the initials S & E for Steve and Elaine rather than the B when I look at Bellagio's logo and am still a bit bitter as to how MGM was forcing him out after the MGM/Mirage merger.

These reasons contribute to why Encore is my favorite named casino in Vegas. The first time I heard the name I felt like Steve was flipping the bird at the rest of the strip :)

My favorite Hotel name is the Marina Hotel from the 70's. To call it Marina in the middle of the desert took a lot of cojones back then.

I agree. They all personify "Vegas" to me. Especially Las Vegas Club. Too bad it's a shadow of it's former self.:Þ

    Big Apple, Liberty, Gotham...

Bellagio is a good name too. They seem to be more successful at naming them than missing on it.
