Plaza $15.00 Weekdays, $35.00 Weekends

Just received an email from the Plaza, many dates the rest of Nov. most of Dec. and Jan. the weekday rates are $15.00 Several weekends in Dec. and one in Jan are $35.00 Use code Thnks.

My rate was $25.00 earlier today it went to $19.90 and now it is $15.00, I think that is as low as it will go. Pays to keep checking.

 

If you have a play history with the Plaza you might want to check the mail first. I got the same email, but the offer that came in the mail today was different, and better, for the same dates.

 

Wife called and had our reservation changed to the lower rate (for the second time) with no hassle.

 

Damn I want to try a night's stay at the Plaza but I'm all booked up for my January trip. Cheap though!

 

If they're sending over guests from Vegas Club and still have to drop rates this low to fill up, then it's reasonable to assume that the resort fee and other changes have really harmed business. I frequently see Plaza for 60% off at hotels.com, too. It's doubtful that this offer was sent out based on play, as I have gambled under a hundred dollars there in the past year and got this offer last night as well.

 

The 15 dollar nights seems to have gone out to everyone on their mailing list. My gf got one and I know she hasn't gambled more than a few dollars there. But I also got an offer that WAS based on play, (low roller play, but play nonetheless) in the regular mail, on the same day. Clearly the Plaza is making a big push to fill rooms for January, so if you have a play history you can probably get an even better deal than 15 a night. It's worth checking.

 

I have played some 9/6 JB a few times in the last year and am on their mailing list and have not gotten this offer yet. The offer does not include the RESORT FEE does it?

 

Our offer was $15 midweek, $35 weekends and one free drink. Yes the fine print says $10 resort fee is additional.

And ticked off a few readers because the calendar wasn't working properly to book the rooms. Also people griping about the resort fee.

 

I saw this deal on FB today and was seriously considering jumping from the 4Q to the Plaza for the $100 or so I'd save.....until I found out not only about the $10 per day resort fee but they charge you a $50 refundable incidental fee, a "security deposit" as the telephone clerk put, in the event of damage or room charges.

How offensive! Isn't that what credit cards are for? Don't they know they're not supposed to chase their money.

 

Tempted to jump from MGM to this... But again, not looking for a hassle at checkout like Annie.

This is about the most common practice any hotel does, and I cant see how it is offensive. Credit cards are great, if they work. If they do not authorize the money on your card, then they have no idea if your card is valid, or has funds available.

Personally, this would be the last thing I would worry about at this property, they have too many other issues

 

The problem for many people here, from what I understood, is that some people don't have credit cards, so they take money out of the customer's bank account via debit cards. I've heard a few objections from patrons at the check-in line over this matter. It wouldn't matter to me, either, but for people who have prepaid via a 3rd party site, then arrive to find their checking account is being accessed, that wouldn't necessarily start a vacation off right.

I agree, it wouldnt. But in this day and age, anyone who travels really should be prepared for this. Car rental agencies do the same thing, even for prepaid cars. Some gas stations do. I am just saying that of all the things that are wrong with the Plaza, I dont think this one is at all out of line, or even uncommon, and I certainly would not let it dictate weather I stayed there or not. I have heard that the El Cortez charges $200 for the Cabana Suites. The hotel I work in charges $50 per night. About two or three times a year we will get a complaint about it.

 

Agreed. But as savvy as some of us are regarding travel, there are still people out there who don't have computers, drive to the airport to purchase plane tickets (paying with personal checks, no less), getting money orders to buy the latest as-seen-on-TV gadget, and don't know how to program frequent phone numbers into their cell phone (if they even have one). Or they still use a travel agent. I know lots of these people, my mom and best friend being two of them... My mom absolutely refuses to give out her credit card number to anyone (not sure why she even has one). And if I were to categorize this type of traveler, I'd say they're the kind of people who stay at PLAZA, which is why it's become a problem at their hotel and not as much at other places.

 

For what it's worth, I never said it was the reason I wouldn't stay at the Plaza or that it was the biggest thing wrong with it.

I stayed at the Plaza when it was really a dump and actually liked the place. It used to be one of my favorites.

What I found out of line was the woman making it a point of telling me this on the phone. I know car rental companies do it, and if hotels do it, it's not something they tell you right away.

For a hotel that's dying, the last thing they should be doing is trying to get every last dime out of the customer. $10.00 a day resort fee IS offensive, especially for a downtown empty property. What was offensive about the $50 issue, was that she made a point of saying "plus we charge $50.00 as a security deposit". Ive never heard put that way before, that's all.

And after all was said and done and the extra charges were factored in, it was the same I was paying to stay at the 4Q, which is a better location.

 

Sorry if I misspoke. Being in the industry, I guess I am sensitive to things like this. I have to agree that the resort fee, especially for places like the Plaza, and Gold Spike, are offensive. As for ill informed, or CLUELESS travelers, they really do still exist in droves. Just last week I had a guest check in with a gift certificate. Would have been all fine and dandy, but they booked the room and prepaid on Expedia, then were insisting on getting their money back. Their reasoning was it was our fault, because when they typed in the name of our hotel, the first thing that came up was a link to Expedia. Brilliant.

 

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some Feb offers.
