Like many here, we stopped going to V/P after their fiasco about 2 years ago - saying players do not matter and cutting comps way back.

Anyway, after a time we started getting some basic offers. Three room nights and maybe a little something else - very little. Have pretty much ignored them. Actually, our last stay there was to get $100 FP and that was it.

Anyway, I actually got a phone call from them last week trying to get us to come visit. I told them about what we get from Mlife - suite, food, some freeplay, etc. He tries to sell me on their suites to which I help him understand by suite - I mean TWO rooms.

Anyways, he offers 2 nights. Then he emails later and says he can do 3 nights and $100 FP. Our play has us at Plat/Noir level to give you an idea.

Wonder if they have lost too many players?

That's very interesting -- thanks for sharing. Maybe it's time to give them a bit of play and see what happens.

well i for one think strikes one and two were the comp fiasco of not honoring people's reservations and stuff. but strike three for me was how Jilly was promised one of the Penthouses by his host on a tour and he shows up and has a step down. that's grounds for me never to even consider staying there if they're going to do bush league stuff like that.

I got an email and then a phone message from a "Casino Relationship Manager" about a week ago.

They seem to be doing the same thing as CET - creating a marketing layer to do "personal" outreach.

I have 2 week nights comped and also booked fri and sat at the 4 Queens.
What do you think are my chances of getting 1 or both of the weekend nights comp at the end of my trip with a lot of play. Thanks in advance.

I can think of a few reasons why they are looking to get some business back. I'll keep myself from getting snarky but only say that they will keep coming back to you when conventions are soft like now and probably pull back when that business is in it's peak.

I think they are certainly making a new push to get people back in. Before 09 as a low roller (never got to even gold card with V/P) I would regularly get the 3-4 weeknights free mailers. My play never warranted those comps but I did take advantage of them. I have a small credit line there so maybe that helped a bit. Up until today all I have been getting is the $129/night weekday offers, which is much more inline with my play there. However, today, I get an email invite to the Orange County Choppers, bike unveiling with 3 nights comped. Nov 18-20. They must be getting desperate, or it is a very slow time for them.

Having just stayed 4 nights last weekend, after a phone call from my host, with an offer of a standard luxury suite and 850 match play, at Palazzo, I can say I have seen a change since 2008-2009 in the Venetian. They seem to have created a much more definite divide between Palazzo and Venetian, Venetian has more music and dealers now wear football jerseys on the weekends in their semi party pits around the Bourbon Bar and Rock of Ages, whereas Palazzo is still very formal and laid back, not what I experienced in years past. Way fewer people than I remember at similar times over the past three years around Halloween even during the deepest part of the recession. The craps dealers response was that the conventions are from M-F basically and no way consist of gamblers, and once the weekends hit they dry up big time over the past year.

One note on the match play, they only give you a maximum of 4 vouchers, so I received 4 $200 coupons and one $50 coupon, due to the $50. So while I bet in that range be aware that this has changed in the last year also. I had received $100 coupons in the past up to my $850.

I saw lots of foot traffic during the afternoons and even heavy play on the tables but no where near the consistent volume from even two years ago . Examples are I stay on east coast time and sleep from 7 PM to 11:30-12am while in vegas and am back at the craps table by 1 am and the past two trips this year are the only time I can remember not seeing at least three craps tables filled and having to wait to get in. Now there was one mostly filled and one empty all 4 nights along with a decent amount of space at the BJ tables. So I agree they must be hurting a bit or a lot.

Also for good or bad depending on your perspective, they lost, or had it reduced greatly, the type of crowd that frequents cosmo now, the clubbers or whatever they are called, as there was not as much eye candy during the early morning hours nor the crazy club scene at 1am that I remember, even for weekend during similar times of years in the past years. My host still took great care of me in my eyes, but we are not big meal eaters or show goers, so we mainly gamble and stroll around grabbing only one heavy meal at Delmonico.

My wife was a lower level gold player at V/P and until the "great purge" we routinely got comp or greatly reduced nights and tournament invites. Other than a quarterly mailing from them we haven't heard from them since and we've been happy at Aria/MLife (platinum level we've upgraded our play) In the last month she's been receiving e-mails all the time and mailings. So far no comp nights but the rates are very good. We're scheduled to stay at Aria in two weeks, part of me wants to go over to Grazie and see if they'll match our MLife level.

Regardless, I think they are getting desperate. We may be witnessing the start of Adelson losing control of his gaming empire. First his insane comment about not needing gamblers in Vegas to fill his 7,000 rooms then he spent the last 18 months pouring money into election campaigns beyond all reason. Even obscenely rich people have a board of directors to answer to.

I was part of the group that was cut off in the purge. Hope they're desperate enough to throw me an offer or two.

They will never get another dime of my money.....and I'm a pretty stout player and I could never get them to do anything for me so they can go jump in a lake.

I give them business every once in a while since they're the only non-union shop on the Strip. Voting with my dollars and whatnot.

I've been consistently getting free room offers/free play/dining for quite awhile. Just received another email this morning good through January 6th. What they did inconvenienced me on one trip (having to stay at PHO one visit), but I can't forgive them for what they did to everybody else. I'm a team player.

Although I'd be lying if I said I'm not considering them for my March trip. How long is our strike going to last, guys?

I love the restaurants at Venetian so I'll go back if there is a good offer but quite frankly I feel the establishment, particularly the casino, has gone downhill and has been short of being a top casino resort the past few years. It is about what have you done for me lately on the one hand and on the other hand Venetian pulled some bullshit that some people will never forget or forgive.

I won't count out Adelson so quickly. Adelson owns like 55% of LVS and 70% of Sands China. Hard to kick him out unless he could be convinced to be resign. Besides, Sands is doing pretty well relative to its competitors.

Well, now we know where Cosmo is draining visitors from. I would be wary about getting in deep with V/P again. It would help if they walked back some of the crap they said. They really talked about their gaming customers as if they were crap on the bottom of their shoes.
