    Questions for yall...

While playing this past week I noticed that whenever someone would color up over $300 and leave the table the pit boss would come over and enter something into the players club computer.

So my question is...does it hurt your players club "status" if you do well?

For example, I was playing MSS with a guy who bought in for $200 and cashed out with $7k...so does it show that he had a big win and they will not offer him much in the future? or will they offer more to bring him back to try to get him to lose it?

Mainly I just want to know why the pit boss records what you cash out with in the players club system...

Doesn't affect status at all, the only thing that they really care about for comp purposes is average bet and length of session. They do record what you buy in with and cash out with; among other things, you can use that to check your win/loss report at the end of the year, for tax purposes (not that the damn thing works nowadays, but it used to), but it shouldn't affect your comps at all. At the end of the day, the house always wins, after all.

Basically winning doesn't hurt your comps at all. Their philosophy is that if you lost, it's all good, and they want you back again because maybe you're bad at the game. And if you won, they want you back again because they'd like to win their money back.

Comps are almost always based on coin-in and total amount wagered (and the game you played). Many casinos attempt to record win/loss numbers on rated players, but the amount you wagered in 99% more important.

However, if you show up at the blackjack table and win session after session, you might get extra scrutiny as a possible advantage player. They won't determine this by how much you've won, but it might be a flag for them to 'evaluate your play'.

they track your wins/losses by entering them into the computer. they're not always that accurate, but usually pretty close.

Over time you can absolutely screw with the number the casino is counting for your wins/losses. You can take money off the table during your play and never give it back when you color up, and it will make it seem like you lost more. This is especially easy to do at craps. It would be pretty hard to do in a high limit room.

But like everyone here said, it doesn't affect your comps or your ECs/TCs, so it's not that big a deal.

they will still figure it out most of the time. at craps it's easier to squirrel away chips, but at other table games they know exactly how much they had in the rack before you came and they know how much is left when you leave, so they can figure out how much you have in your pocket. but it really doesn't do you any good to do that, so it's really just a waste of time to try.

I agree, they surely could. I just don't think at most levels that they bother, because it would be a pain at a busy craps table for them to do it. I actually noticed this on accident...because when I'm winning at craps, I start putting big chips away in my pocket so that I can just book the win -- once the chip goes in the pocket, it doesn't come out. On one trip where I was swinging up and down wildly, I looked at my tax statement after and it had my losses way overblown.

So what I'm really saying is that I just don't think the casino cares that much about getting your number accurate on wins and losses. They care about what you bet.

I have noticed at craps, they are really only focussed on keeping track of the black chips on up

At most any table, they keep an exact count of every black and larger chip. You can squirrel away a handful of greens at a blackjack table, but they'll almost always know if you pocket some blacks. Not that there's anything wrong with that (they are your chips). Many people do this to set stop-loss or win limits.

It's probably a lot harder at a busy craps table for them than any table game.

And just like comps at craps, it's all about what the boxman writes on the paper, and it's pretty subjective. If you pocket $500, is the boxman going to write it down if you've been a good player that takes care of the table? Who knows?

And like someone said, they're your chips, so it's not like you're breaking the rules.

But you're right about the black chips being counted...I've had times when I've had a rack full of greens and asked to start getting paid in blacks, and the dealer had to ask the boxman before doing it.

I once heard a pit boss at The Wynn tell a man exactly this. We were sitting at the same BJ table and he and the pit boss were having a very interesting conversation. He asked her if the job was hard, and she basically said no, not at all. He asked what level they rate at, she said they'll rate anyone, but you won't get much at the $15/hand we were playing. Then they bashed MLife for a bit. Then he asked if winning/losing has any effect on your comps. She said winning doesn't hurt, but losing can help sometimes. Then she mentioned that people taking their chips off the table was the most annoying thing about rating people, but it's really easy to figure out when they do based on how much is in the rack at any given time.

I would not worry about it for a couple hundred but i would show my card if getting some 500 or 1k chips.

My brother won a few a couple years back and then the next day when he went to cash them in they were looking at him funny. They said if he showed his card when he got them they could just look it up with no questions asked.

I am one of those guys that 'squirrels' a lot of green chips off the table. I use it as a stop-gap measure.

I know the pit bosses and the dealers well (also tipped heartily), so they don't say anything when they need to re-load the rack. It's probably quite annoying for them - and, when it's me and my friend, we may have $300 - $800 squirrelled away - yup, they must hate us!

I also re-buy with cash, when chips are rat-holed - again, another frowned upon action. I am not really trying to pad my 'loss' rating, even though it generally is displayed as a loss for the times I re-bought.

I have never had a winning session, even with squirrelling in play - even at Pai Gow poker - 7 years counting and average of 4 trips a year (5 days of play for an average of about 6 hours / day). I always read winning trip reports with wide-eyed excitement - I just don't have that winning blood in me (the only exception is playing poker - which I rarely have losing sessions - I use money won from there to fund my losing Pai Gow Poker sessions - LOL!!
