What does everyone think about this worldwide phenomenon?

Just a goofy fad that a couple of months from now hardly anybody will remember.

I saw him rock the closing session of ReHab and a couple weeks ago and he was GREAT!!! They also played the song out at the UNLV/Nevada football game earlier this month and the whole crowd (young and old) was dancin'...

Enjoy it for what it is... a good time!!! Is it a life-changing moment in music, hell no... but it's a tad bit more than a "goofy fad"... enjoy life, it's fun!

I don't understand how this is a fad.

I grew up in the 80s and my friends and I would be laughing at this.

As the saying goes, times change.

I can understand if people like the dance or the background music -- but it seems like people are also saying the clothes and lyrics are catchy. They arent in english! Except for "sexy layyyday".

I don't get it, and don't find it entertaining.

It's one of the songs that I liked the first time I heard it. Usually, it takes me a few times before I like a song.

it's super popular because of the beat and rhythm. People go nuts all over the world in the clubs when this song is on.
The "dance" helped its popularity too

Ye, just like the 'Macarena' fad of some 10 years ago; and Labamba before that, and the twist, and break dancing, and ball room dancing, and Yanni and other new age muzak, and Marilyn Manson(hey is he dead?)...

Dont forget, The Beatles were so unpopular in the 70's that they (all 4) were offered just $5000 by Lorne Michaels to perform 1st episode of SNL in 1975. After John Lennon's death, the fab 4 were back bigger than ever!
Oh, and Elvis had a comeback concert in 1970.

This song is fun for all ages. It's not hurting anyone, maybe a few minutes of irritation for some but for most a smile to their face and get their body moving!

I think it's just a case of what's hot right now, and will probably go the the way of the macarena soon.
However, I saw on the Linq site, one of the ultra lounges that were planned was one called F.A.M.E. that plans to feature Gangum style music.

Let's not forget that while most of us here in the west never heard of PSY before this song, he's had a very successful carrer in South Korea and has been really big there for awhile. I'm sure he's not a one hit wonder. Who knows, that that he's made it internationally due to this song we'll be seeing a lot more k-pop crossovers.

The macarena also wasn't in english and it was popular for a time.

I also am not a fan of the music. I was hearing that song at the bars in honolulu every time I visited so it was getting irritating. Imagine to my surprise, I go to vegas and to a couple of strip clubs.....and they are playing the song and showing the video on their tv screens. They also have spin off videos of this. I enjoyed the Obama gannam video.

JMHO, gosh, I hope it's a one hit wonder on this side of the pond and there won't be more crossovers. :Þ

I had heard that the initial popularity was because the video is a parody of all the other current Korean pop videos, and all the imagery (little kid dancing, lady on the subway, guy in the yellow suit, etc) is mocking other videos.
And plus the dance hook was catchy.

Love it - it just makes me happy. In a world with economic troubles, a flooded Eastern Seaboard, and global warming, a few minutes of a goofy song is a nice break. Oppan gangnam style!!!

A lot of songs I love weren't in English and even translated were better in the original language. Der Kommissar tops that list. As for Psy, I didn't know what to make of it at first because all people talked about the dance. But when I looked up what the song was about, I just gave into it. I love the sense of humor about it. And since Psy is now repped by Justin Bieber's people, he may not be going anywhere. He did a radio interview to promote an upcoming appearance here and he seems cool.
