Have had this happen in LV and a couple local casinos.

I'll find a nearly empty BJ table and ask the dealer and floorman, if my g/f can sit next to me and not play but just watch. Usually they say "fine, no problem" or just warn that IF the table gets full or action picks up they may ask that she give up the chair. That's cool and isn't a problem and I fully understand they aren't making money off empty chairs etc.

Invariably though the NEXT FLOORMAN comes in and even tho there are MANY EMPTY seats at our table and those around they'll pull this "she can't sit if she isn't playing" garbage.:Þ

Like I said, I have no problem with it if they get busy or have players wanting seats, but it is just rude and obnoxious and poor customer service to do it just because they WANT TO as some sort of power trip! If it is "sooo verbotten" then why did the first guy say it was fine? Literally I've never had the first one say NO as we always ask when the table and casino aren't at all crowded etc.

My g/f will occasionally watch a while and then play if she feels comfy with the dealer and all. When they make her get up for no good reason she wants to BAIL on that casino and never return. I can't say as I blame her as there is no reason for it. If there was - like they are crowded/busy, then we leave anyway as neither of us like crowded tables and we both are very conscienscious about making sure no one "can't play" that wants to or anything like that.

We are extremely polite and ask for permission and are generous to our dealer etc. She is just intimidated by the game and wants to only play when it suits her.

Some floormen are just dumb jerks tho. Why tee off customers for no reason. I could see if she smoked or cussed or was rude or hostile, but she is the opposite as she is meek and quiet and overly generous with tokes when she does play - and cute as can be so I sometimes think they are just jealous bitter .... It makes no sense to me why some of them pull some macho move about some silly rules that many others know are "waivable upon request".

Last time out we sat at some "queens match" table and while I never play such "sucker bets" she would occasionally bet a dollar on my hand for giggles. The dealers said it was fine and the first two floormen had no problem with it then all of a sudden some new one shows up and "only the player can make those bets". I told him it was all my money anyway but he insisted she stop putting the dollar in only I could. She was having fun with it and it was not hurting anybody, but noooooo he had to be a ******.

I understand that some rules are to protect from stealing and other things, but some are just dumb procedural garbage that many dealers and floorpeople will ignore because they know it is stupid.

Heck, in Atlantic City ( only there once ) I was shocked that they allow folks standing behind you ( total strangers BTW ) bet on your BJ hand. These folks can't open enuff tables so they let people bet on your hand and then you have to listen to them whine and complain when you hit a 16 vs an X because they NEVER do that blah blah blah. Now that is some seriously messed up stuff. But a spouse/so wanting to sit at an empty seat next to you or wanting to piggy-back on your betting a little - that should be no problemo! Strangers wanting to piggy-back is a different thing and I could see fights caused and people attempting to steal from others and such.

I've seen it happen to other couples too, so it isn't just us!

We often play "community property" at craps where she'll add more $ to my odds bets or shoot off my line bets and we NEVER have problems with the craps dealers or boxmen or floorpeople on that game(they sometimes ask to make sure we are playing together but once we say we are they always say fine). But BJ floors ...

yeah that's one of the nice things about playing in the HL room. my wife sits there on occasion and they always offer her a chair and if there isn't a chair because the table is full, they offer to pull one from another table. one time i played BJ with a buddy out on the main floor and it was a full table. my wife was there and there wasn't an empty chair, so i pull one from the table next to ours that was completely empty. the dealer there has a conniption about how i can't steal her chair, blah, blah, blah. i couldn't believe it, really. that kind of stuff just never happens in the HL room.

as far as piggybacking, that's done all the time with Bacc. of course there's no decisions to be made playing the hand, so there's no issues there, but if the table is full, i will walk up and hand somebody my chips and ask them to bet on top of them for me. and people do that to me when i'm sitting there and there are no spots available. it seems kind of weird and you'd think there'd be problems, but there aren't. sometimes you have 3-4 people betting on a single spot and often we're talking about thousands of dollars in chips that each of us have out there. but at the end of the hand, the right amount always makes it back to the proper person and everybody moves on. one time the guy gave me $50 too much after the hand and i noticed because i had more than i should, so i gave him the $50 back.

I agree with Shifter. In HL, my wife will not only sit there, they'll bring her drinks. At craps they'll bring her drinks if she's just standing there next to me. At regular blackjack -- if it's a pitboss I know, no problem. Won't even bother trying with someone I don't know.

Never had that happen to me.

If it did, I'd say "I guess neither of us are playing, then. Good job, champ", cash out and walk.

I am not sure where exactly, either Binion's or El Cortez, but I was playing Pai Gow with one other player and both the dealer and pit boss offered a chair for my non-playing wife. No issues.

The HL rooms at MGM and Mandalay are nothing but nice. My wife has sat with me for hours playing baccarat and has never been asked to get up even at a full table! I was playing at first base and she just scooted over even further to the right when the table got full. I think the pitbosses like her cause she's chatty and almost is always wearing something that shows off her boobies!

I've seen and participated in ghost betting in baccarat but never in blackjack. That sounds like a problem waiting to happen. What happens if there are a few splits and doubles that the guy behind you doesn't have the money for? Sure you can double for less but you can't split for less. Unless it was my brother or friend no way would I allow that.

How would you feel if the floorman came to your workplace and asked you to bend the rules?

I agree with them 100%. Those seats are for players.

If they were rules, then they'd be followed all the time. Since they aren't, it's confusing.

I've never had this happen in the HL room or otherwise. It seems pretty ridiculous. Just last Sunday at Bellagio, Flusher and I drafted Skadoo to play craps with us. She was a reluctant participant so only two of us were betting. Even though we fileld a corner of the table, neither the boxman nor the floor supervisor said anything to us. I even pushed my chips in front of Skadoo when the dice came around to her and they still said nothing (I'm sure it didn't hurt that I was the big bettor at the table, but its not like I was really making huge bets or anything). makes me wonder if this is more of an issue at BJ tables

I've never seen it be a problem at a craps table.

And like you say, when you're the big bettor at the table it's definitely not a problem.

I would do the same as Nevyn

I would do the same dude. There are plenty of places to gamble. The older I get the more I vote with my feet.

Interesting....I would go from casino to casino and see if it a vegas problem or a casino problem....find the casino that allows this (it seems an important part of the gambling to you) and call it your home. You can't fight members of the staff that are just rude. You can only exclude it from your circle of interaction. It would be interesting to hear which specific casino you settle upon. Don't be angry just move on. Good luck...

I'm a wife who sometimes plays "a little" and other times just watches when hubby is playing. We've never experienced any problems at BJ tables at any MLife casinos. The majority of our gambling time is at Aria, Bellagio and Mandalay Bay.

Sorry, this is off topic but one thing that I note that happens in some casinos in other parts of the world (e.g. Australia, Singapore, Macau) is that ghost betting doesn’t need to happen because people could be constantly betting behind you. Usually as long as the total amount in the box doesn’t bust the table maximum, nobody says anything and each winning bet gets paid out separately by the dealer. The practice varies from country to country but the usual protocol is that the bet that is right at the front of the betting box controls so if that’s you and you want to double or split, then the people behind you are stuck with your decision. They can opt not to double but they’re still stuck with just getting one card. And if they don’t want to take part in a split, they can choose which one of the split hands they want their bet to go to (before the cards get dealt, obviously).

I haven’t seen that happen in Vegas although that’s not a bad thing. In Vegas, if somebody wants to ghost bet with me, I make it clear that I will decide the choice of play and if they need to split, then they will stump up money for it. Having said that, I must admit that I’ve not come across a situation where the person riding on my action had no money to follow up with a split.

I've never had this issue. If anything, it's been the opposite. If I'm playing at a table and my buddy is just watching, or vice versa, there have been several occasions where the dealer has told whichever of us wasn't playing that we could take a seat.

This has happened several times in the Pleasure Pits at either PH or Paris while my buddy was playing Three Card Poker. I generally don't like to waste my money on that, but I enjoy watching him play so I'll stand behind him. There have been several occasions where the pretty scantily clad dealer has told me that I could take a seat if I wanted, and the floormen never said anything.

Part of it is tied to the "power" given to certain people. Some people just totally get off using that power, no matter how trivial.

My only answer to the jerk? Politely color up and leave the area. Let him know that you have even more "power".

I agree that it is lame to make a big deal about a friend using a chair and watching you play, unless the casino is packed.

But they have a legitimate reason on letting her bet the side-bet. They don't want any confusion about who made the bet if it hits the jackpot. You should be the one that gets the W2-G, not her, but if she put the money out, there could be an argument.

For that same reason they generally won't let me bet the Lucky Ladies on other people's hands. I need to give that player the $1 or $5 and then they give me the winnings if it pays off. That's OK (deals between players), but not directly betting someone else's hand. I know in some places they have this back-betting thing, but that's a different process and handled differently.

my last trip to the Beau i was playing on a low limit Bacc table because one of my favorite dealers was dealing there. it was a $10 table so they only had 3 stacks of purples and no pumpkins. my dealers know i don't like to play with yellows, so she paid me in purple only. well i was doing pretty well and had just won a hand and was paid with all but the last purple chip on the table. she says next hand i'm going to have to pay you in yellow because i don't have anymore purples. is said, ok, that's fine.

well, 2 seconds later the super comes over and starts yelling at the dealer for giving away all the purple chips. evidently you're supposed to keep a certain number for whatever reason and not let it get down to 1 or 0. i tell the super, dude, i requested purples only, she's just being a good dealer, we've got it handled. well, he won't drop it and really starts to piss me off and completely kills the vibe at the table. so i said screw it, i'm out of here and colored up and left. who wants to play with a super that's being a dick?

Many years ago (30??) I was in California and playing at one of the poker rooms in Gardena. This was the first place I ever saw Pai Gow poker dealt.

As I recall, not only did they let multiple players bet on each hand, the player with the biggest bet, whether he was seated or not, got to set the cards!! It was chaotic, but the jamb-up action certainly made it a memorable experience.

I'll bet you would have loooooved to be seated at that game, parlayboy!
