Im taking my mom to Vegas in November because shes graduating with her MBA, its my 24th birthday and its going to be thanksgiving week. I have all 4 nights comp'd at Palazzo. Should I let her keep the whole suite to herself, and taking a casino offer at TI across the street? ($170 total for the week). Or should we just stay in the same property and room since it will be her first time in Vegas?

it depends on how comfortable you want to be. personally i don't like sharing a room with anybody except my wife, let alone my mom. so i would want my own room. since you have 4 nights comped at Palazzo already, call them and tell them you need another room and see what they can do for you. oftentimes they will give you a good rate or maybe even just comp it also.

I tried that already, they said that I would have to pay full rate $150nt + resort fee. TI doesn't seem like a bad option, only a 5 min walk across the street.

I'd stay together unless it's weird for you... The Palazzo rooms are large, you shouldn't be all over each other.

Also the Palazzo compound is so huge it's not as easy as "oh it's across the street"

Most of the rooms/suites at V/P are not really suites. They are nice rooms, but they are NOT suites. Both beds are in the same room.

All depends on privacy and hours out late as to what you will do.

bummer. regular rooms cost them almost nothing, so you'd think they'd do something for you. my host will throw a couple in anytime i need one for other people and not even bill me. he's like, what do i care about $100/night in comps? it's nothing.

It seems like you want to get a second room. Give your mom the spoils and get the room at TI. It's a short walk and you can have your room at great rate.

Yeah, let your mom have the place to herself. I think you'll BOTH appreciate the space and freedom.

Just remember that that walk isn't as short as you think. Although in November it won't be bad. My wife broke a heel during that walk -- there's a boardwalk type section in there that's hard on women in heels, if I remember correctly. Maybe that was going to Wynn.

    This depends on your mom...

I'm on a Vegas trip with my mom right now, listening to her as she snores in the bed beside me. (Thank god she doesn't read the Internet.) It would crush her if she thought we were coming to Vegas but I was across the street. We are also mother and daughter and extremely close, so I see how it could be different for a mother/son. I would ask her what she prefers just to be safe and not get the guilt trip when you get here.

Are you not close enough to your Mom that you both may feel uncomfortable?

If it were only one of my children with me, there would be no question we'd be staying together. We are a very close family and do enjoy each others company, sons or daughter.

I've travelled a couple of times with my son, who is about your age. We always get a suite, so we can sleep in separate rooms.

One time, my son slept on a hide a bed in the living room area and the next time, he slept on a comfortable sofa.

Also, having 1 1/2 bathrooms is really nice too.

We both like our quiet times and privacy, so this has worked well.

Do you have to pay resort fees on your comped room at Palazzo? I had a comped room at Venetian in August but still had to pay resort fees. Just wondering because if you got both rooms and had to pay resort fees on both, it really would be a waste of money. Or maybe it wouldn't if you wanted separate space. :wink

I had two rooms at the Bellagio (5 night) last year. Mom and Dad a room & myself a room. In a standard room noway for 5 night with my parants.

In your situation, alone with your mom. 4 night, queen room. No problem for me at the V&P. Room is big enough. It has more space compared to the Bellagio and Wynn. No hazzle for meeting in the morning, ect.

I was in Prague last summer and mom and I stayed in the same room. No problem for me. It also depends on your mother.....what is her opinion?

My mother would't be comfortable to be alone in a Hotel. It was allready difficult to get her out of the house. She speaks a little bit of english and it was allready funny in LV when she tried to order something. They don't have a Dutch menu :ssst:

( I'm the same age as you, but a Dutch guy. Maybe a cultural thing )

Too be honest with you, I was not told I had to pay the resort fee with this offer. Last month when I stayed I had to pay, well actually the front desk person asked me if I was going to use any of the facilities, so it was kinda optional.

And there are the reasons it is worth getting a separate room. Add in:

    4) I might want to go back out while she sleeps
    5) Her hairspray drives me nuts
    6) I like to shower and walk around naked
    7) I want to watch different tv shows at night, in the morning or middle of the night

Personally, I would pay whatever it take to have a room for her, be it down the hall or at least in the SAME hotel.

How old is your mother? You're pretty young so I'm guessing she's not elderly and could probably handle her own room. I used to stay in a room with my brother and hated it. He snored and would charge room service to the room which I ended up paying for with my credit card that was on file. I was very happy to start getting my own room from him until we stayed at separate hotels once. That was kind of creepy walking back to my own hotel room by myself.
