I'm looking at 2 nights at the Golden Nugget...the Gold Club Luxury room is about $40 more (total) than the Rush Tower...as I understand it, the Rush Tower is the newest tower and rooms...does anyone have any advice comparing the 2 rooms?

I have not stayed in the Rush Tower, but in April we had Gold Club Luxury rooms on the 16th floor. The room was very nice and the bed was amazingly comfortable. My room had a leather chair and a matching chaise, DiL's had similar chair and a couch. Plenty of storage space with a desk area. The bathroom was a little small, but nicely appointed with double sinks and plenty of counter space. Tub shower combo with shower doors not shower curtains. TV in mirror.

Access to the 16th and 17 floors is by key card only (as an older single woman returning alone to my room it gave me a greater level of comfort) The small lobby on our floor had free coffee, bottled water, fruit and newspapers in the morning and water and snacks the rest of the time. The Gold Tower elevator is very convinent to both the Casino and the VIP check-in, which you use with Gold Club reservations.

Other perks with thoose rooms are free WIFI, line passes for both the buffet and the Carson cafe, and free access to thier (small) spa.

    PS.

I should also add that I am planning a trip in April of 2013 and will definately stay at the Nugget again and book the same room type. If you have any questions I would be happy to try to give you answers.

Gold Club vs Rush Tower Room. Hmmmm...I've stayed in both and honestly, I think they're about the same as far as quality and comfort. The Rush Towers are the newest and those rooms have their own separate check-in counter which is rarely busy. I like that. It's also very quiet and I've never heard any noise in my Rush room. Luxurious bathrooms with modern decor, although you almost need a step ladder to get into the shower.

Rush Tower rooms are not as close to the casino floor as the Gold Club rooms, but the walk isn't too bad. There is a 24 hour sundries shop right next next to the elevator, which also sells alcohol (convenient when you're in a pinch).

Now onto the Gold Club rooms...

Gold Club rooms are decorated much like the Rush Towers rooms, but are a little older. I do like the TV in the bathroom mirror in these rooms, which Rush doesn't have. And I found stepping right out of the elevator into the casino was a huge plus. The walking back and forth can add up.

One big difference I noticed is the Rush rooms have excellent blackout drapes. 100% darkening. Makes midday seem just like midnight. I could never get the Gold Club room as dark.

For $40 more per night, I would personally go with the Rush Tower room. And use the savings in the casino. : )

JX, as others have mentioned, the rooms are comparable and I have stayed in both. The big advantage to Gold Club is twofold; free workout/spa access (everyone else pays) and free internet. As others have mentioned, you get free water, light snacks (peanut M&M's, chocolate covered raisns, jelly beans...) and the exclusive floor access. Regardless of which room you choose, ask for one that faces away from the canopy. Unless you go to bed late or drunk, the band noise will keep you awake.
