Is the Cosmo as bad as some of reviews depicted on TA?

I'm honestly scared now. Booked 4 nights at Cosmo in November. I typically stay at Wynn/MO/Aria so this is will be a change for me. Any recent experience regarding room cleanliness is appreciated. My
biggest fear is being stuck with a dirty room or even worse seeing a previous guest's remnants (far too many reports of used condoms). Wynn/MO/Aria housekeeping is the standard some of us have come
to expect so obviously my standards are very high. I'm also afraid of being cramped into the elevators with drunk college kids. I am late 20's myself but in no way do I associate with the young party crowd. I am more into the fine dining, upscale lounge/bar, and baccarat scene, if you get the picture. So pls tell me I didn't make a mistake booking at the Cosmo...!

 

Well bottom line--

Your room dirty call front desk..

Your elevator ride with your age group--Enjoy it ya will get old quicker than ya know it

Otherwise why ya sweating --Ya suppose to be looking foward to your trip

Maybe you haven't stayed at Wynn or MO but it would be a rare occurrence for
a guest to be checked into a dirty room. And if it did happened the hotel would go above ad beyond to offer to switch rooms, not make you wait 4 hours for housekeeping. It would be distressing and it's not just as easy as calling front desk. I'd prefer it to not happen period. far too many reports of dirty rooms and front desk not doing anything except provide food credit as compensation. Of course I didn't do any research on cosmo I only booked it because I needed
to fulfill nights for Marriott platinum elite.

 

If you are that worried, I would cancel and book where you know they will meet your standards...

 

I personally refuse to read reviews on travel sites because I feel most times the review is written by someone who has other reasons beyond the classic my room was dirty. I will not say people have not checked into a room that was not cleaned or up to the standards but again this is not the standard for most of your properties in Vegas. When I planned our first Vegas trip we wanted to stay somewhere in the middle of the strip for a reasonable price. My play with CET and Mlife was virtually nothing so I did not have any real offers. Friends recommended Bills. I did some research and the reviews I read were not the best in fact reviews for most of the properties along the strip had more complaints than positives. We stayed at Bills and did not have one issue but the thought of the reviews were still floating in our heads and that is the problem with most guests. The first bad experience sticks in their minds although there are many more positives. I was a housekeeping director for many years and still in the industry and I can tell you nobody wants to see an unhappy guest but there is little that can be done when someone hits the travel websites with negative comments. Go and have fun and you be the judge.

The moral -- Just roll with it. There are worse things in this world than being in an elevator with 20-somethings. You might even find you enjoy it if you give it a chance.

I'm not a fan of Cosmo as one night there showed me real some service problems.
That being said I don't believe a lot of the rants on TA. All you have to do is look at their ratings for restaurants,hotels etc.in any city and they are not in line with any reliable rating site(Zagat,Gayot,AAA etc)almost laughable.

Since you mentioned 3 of the nicest hotels in Las Vegas why did you book cosmo?Are you just trying something diferent?
I don't like to move mid trip but if you are looking to try something new consider one night there and three at one of your other favorite places.

 

I take online reviews and internet chatter with a grain of salt. If it were me, I wouldn't worry much, I would want to try for myself. If you are not comfortable with that, than switch, and do what makes you comfortable, it is your trip after all.

 

I've stayed at Wynncore and V/P. My experience ant Cosmo blows them away. We didn't want to leave the room. Get something with a fountain view terrace. You will not be disappointed!

 

To follow up my previous post, sorry had to cut away. I will turn the calendar back to 2007 when a certain casino resort town especially one property that went through hell because someone posted a fictitious story about bedbugs. Before anyone could follow up on the report the property began to experience an extremely high level of cancellations. This property tried everything in their power to get word out that the story/report was not true but the damage was done. Like a previous poster stated you have to take what you read with a grain of salt, however that is easier said than done especially when things get splashed all over the internet.

Well pal I'm 50 years old and yes I have stayed at Wynn and Aria..I never had a dirty room there ...Your assumption that calling front desk is not easy is hogwash to me as I guess my demands are met when I speak of a problem..I don't play around--If they don't want my level of play f_ck em..

 

I don't put a lot of stock in what is said on TA. I have stayed at Cosmo 3 times and never had a bad experience. Rooms were always clean, housekeeping came every day, service was fine. Elevators will be crowded probably on weekends, but I stayed once during a weekend, and it wasn't too bad. Never experienced any drunk people who were a problem on elevators.

 

For what it's worth, I stayed there one night in a wraparound terrace room in June. Room was clean (I was worried a bit myself beforehand, to be honest). There were some drunken kids, but I found my timing and theirs didn't really intersect. I actually thought the elevators were quite empty and numerous, compared to other places I've stayed. My room was on a floor in the forties, I think, and street/pool noise wasn't a problem.

Things I liked- Hidden pizza or whatever that place is called, the Wicked Spoon buffet, the bell staff, and the way the front desk guy walks out from behind the desk to invite you to come up to register. Washer/dryer in room.

I wasn't really impressed with Comme Ca, or the player's club.

The only thing I didn't like was the mouthwash. In fact, it was so bad, I didn't even steal the soap.

That being said, I didn't really "feel" the place. I'll be going back to eat there, as there are a lot of restaurants that sound good, but I don't think I'd stay there again.

 

Wynn/MO/Aria are all 5 star/diamond resorts. Cosmo is not. so the service is definitely not going to be at that level. but i think how things go for you is a matter of not getting unlucky. most people don't have any problems. hopefully you will be one of them.

I haven't stayed there, but I do know it's become the "let's cram 8, 21 year olds into a room" hotel for a lot of people. Because they have the most popular nightclub.

Also it's not run by any of the big resort groups in town. Maybe that affects it? But yes, when I'm at a 5 star resort, I expect the highest class experience. Which I've always had at places like Venetian, Trump, Palazzo, Wynn etc etc...

I would imagine if you were looking for a high class experience, another resort would be a better option. I feel like it's marketing to the younger crowd, yet it's so expensive... it really doesn't make sense to me.

 

I think you get both answers, yes and no.

The "no" part is easy: it sounds like this next level of the hotel rewards program you are a part of is important to you. Unless you have other options in Las Vegas or future trips before your deadline to make the level comes up then no you didn't make a mistake.

For the "yes" part: you haven't even left for your trip, or stayed at Cosmopolitan previously, and you are already making a concerted effort to find problems with the hotel and things to whine and complain about.

Just going in with your attitude things generally tend to go downhill from there, where it sounds like when you arrive you'll be thinking "The Wynn bellhops smile more" and then checking in "The Wynn front desk looks nicer and moves faster" and even the elevators will probably be "The Wynn elevators are bigger and the floor buttons are brighter" and in your room you'll just be looking for things to complain about or what Wynn has that Cosmopolitan doesn't, etc.

And if you want to talk Trip Advisor then you should also try looking up The Wynn on there as well: like everywhere else Wynn and Encore have pages and pages of bad reviews talking about slow and bad service, tight slots in the casino, everything overpriced, unfriendly staff, people not getting the right room or booking 6 months in advance and when they show up being told the hotel is sold out and getting put up for the night at Trump, or that the front desk can't even find their reservation...

For me I look forward to going on vacation and enjoying myself, not worrying about how many problems or faults I will find and what can go wrong.

 

With regard to believing what you read on the internet, I would like to point out I stayed at Mandalay Bay and I was pretty nervous because there were a lot of negative reviews, discussing poor housekeeping, cranky staff, etc. Place was gorgeous, housekeeping very good, all staff interactions were utterly delightful - there was nothing wrong at all with the room, hotel, food, etc. I think some folks just like to bitch and complain no matter what.
