I thought i'd revive this thread back (https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59296&page=1) as it was so helpful when I went two years ago. I'm staying at MGM and remember some things, but just wanted to check in to see if anything had changed or any new tips had been discoverd.

One specific question I do have is where is teh closest store to pick up some beer? The guys just want to have a decent supply in the rooms for hanging out/starting the nights/whatever. Thanks!

the closest store is probably the ABC store which is located next the M&M's store next to the mgm on the strip

You could also try the Grand Canyon Experince store for beer.

One way to get to the Grand Canyon experience is to go to the red lounge bar in the west tower and the door into the alley leads into the back door of the store. I found it going to get on the shuttle to the rodeo last year

I was there mid november. Constuction is a lot better than it was this summer. The corner of Tropicana and the strip is no longer blocked off. There is no more riping up carpets and jackhammering at 8am in the middle of the casino. But I definately did see a good amount of maintenance men doing some work while I was there.

The question for the pool.... i dont think they are open year round but I may be wrong,

As for picking up booze. You have 2 options. There is a liquor store on Tropicana one building over from the Hooters. (prices were ok, but not great). and the second is the place right next to the M&M store that everyone already said. The easiest way there is to go out of the enternace by the west wing bar (just past the sportsbook) and it puts you at the back door of the store.

Direct from the MGM Grand's website:

    Hours
The Pool Complex is now closed for the season. and will re-open Spring 2013. Hotel guests may use The Signature Tower 2 pool during our closure.

Nearly nothing is torn up anymore, it looks great!

My only tip would be check in late, I waited over an hour in line when I arrived around 4.

If you drive, plan your trips to your car, as the parking is really far away.

Great reasonable breakfast sandwiches at Wichcraft.

For the love of all things delicious, get the truffle potato chips with blue cheese at Wolfgang Puck.
