Do that many casual Las Vegas visitors really use the bell services that much? I usually pack with one roll-around and very seldom use the bell desk.

Per the article, 4% of Excalibur guests use the bellman service. I would think the percentage would be higher--maybe 10-20% or so--at more expensive hotels. It might approach 50% at places like Four Seasons/MO where people are staying for the hands on service. I marvel at the enormous amount of luggage some people have with them and wonder how long they are staying.

In general, I like the bellman to take my bags curb to room, but in Vegas I never do because it just takes them so long in the huge hotels.

This is no big surprise, it seems like Excalibur is the type of place people stay to save money, and their efforts would continue as they chose not to use valet or bellman so that they didn't have to tip.

For me, it completely depends on whether I can get into my room or not right when I check in. If I can, I'm not going to check my bags, just so I can have them delivered to me 10 minutes later.

The only time we do the bellman thing is when the room is not available. We have done it in the past, and TOTALLY HATE waiting for him to show up. Part of the Casino fun is to get unpacked and get our asses down to the floor with a drink in hand.

giving some guy $5-$10 to bring my bags up is a waste of my time, and a tip money.

As to Exaclibur... guessing even less do it, and though it may be judging, I am guessing the tips from some of those folks is minimal

Agree with all of this 100% especially the bags. I could be showered, dressed, clothes ironed and gambling in the time it would take them to get the bags to my room.

Interesting. I always use the bell desk and valet. Why not? It's cheap and when I'm traveling alone, I hate dragging those bags around. :)

I'm surprised so many people don't use it because of the wait. I don't think I've ever had to wait more than 10-15 minutes for my luggage to get to the room. A couple trips ago, I got to the room and called. Took off my shoes and put my sunglasses, keys, etc away and then went into the bathroom. I had just sat down when they knocked. What's that? 2-3 minutes?

A bellman told me not too long ago that when they started putting wheels on suitcases their incomes went to hell.

This has been my experience as well. By the time I’ve checked out the room to make sure everything works and washed the travel schmutz off my face, there’s usually a knock at my door. I actually enjoy the few minutes of down time to let the stress of air travel fade away before I add on the stress of losing my ass!

    Different strokes…
