Just found out today that my work is sending my wife and I on a celebrity cruise. We have never cruised before so not sure what to expect. We port out of Miami and visit Cozomel Mexico and Roatan Hunduras. My wife is worried about getting motion sickness.:vomit: I think she worries to much though. so if anyone has been to either of these two places or on celebrity cruise line let me know what its like please.

I like Celebrity Cruise Line. As for getting seasick, the new ships of the last several years have stabilizers and you can hardly feel the ship move. My guess is that you'll both love it.

The boats are so big you wont even feel it usually. That said, I have been in the middle of some serious hurricanes, like the one that wiped out Acapulco in '96, while at sea. Celebrity, in fact. Ive cruised with them 18 times, 5 or 6 thru Mexico and they are my preferred line, by far. Have a great time!

I have cruised 55 times on 7 different cruiselines

I love cruising on cruise ships. I have cruised on Celebrity 5 times.
I am presently cruising on Oct. 29th on the Carnival Inspiration ship.

TRY TO BOOK YOUR CABIN MID-SHIP, LOWER LEVELS. The middle of the
ship is considered the best area.

There may be times when the strong winds hit the ship so the best place
to hang out is at the main Lobby Deck until the winds pass. That is what I do.

This is my advise for your wife: Buy BONINE 25mg. which is a motion-sickness drug over the counter. She needs to take just 1/2 of the
tablet the night before the cruise. She will get her sea legs that way.

When you board the ship go eat a lot of food. The crew workers have always
told me that food keeps a person from getting sea sick. Some people like to
eat green apples to stop from getting seasick. Some people take ginger candy because it also helps.

She can also get a prescription from her doctor for the Transderm Scop,
scopolamine 1.5mg. It is a tiny patch that she puts behind her ear. It works
great for me. I use them at home too when I get a vertigo problem.

If somebody should get real sea sick they can go to the Ship's Medical Center
and get an injection that will stop the seasickness within 15 minutes. BUT..
You will sleep for the rest of the day and night and wake up feeing great.

In all of the years I have cruised I have never gotten sea sick.

But.... I do get motion sickness on LAND when I get home from a cruise.lol.
It looks like my body likes the ocean better than land.lol.

The Medical Center is expensive to use so be sure to buy cruise insurance
to pay for any medical service.

The Celebrity Cruiseline is considered to be one of the top of the line cruise ships.

Your wife will have so much fun that she will want to cruise again on the same ship. She will fall in love with cruising.

P.S. I expect to be blasted by other cruisers for giving you all this information because they will say that I am a 'Nervous Nelly". Yes, I am.
Remember I have cruised 55 times and I have cruised during hurricanes
and rock & roll weather since 1973. LucyR.

I worried for years about getting sea sick, now I'm sorry I waited so long. I do get the bouncy feeling for about a week after returning home tho. It's nothing bad.

I've only been on a few cruises but have enjoyed them very much. If you don't already have a passport, you'll need to get one.

I do get motion sickness but it's never been to bad. I'll just go down to the Infirmary and get some meclizine, usually free. I have gotten patches but never used them.

Cruises aren't for everyone but for us, it's the most relaxing time we've ever had. You are in a floating city on the ocean.

Check out Cruise Critic for reviews and information. It's the same as this message board but for cruises!

    Have a wonderful time!

Thanks for all the info. I think she will be fine. But she is also a nervous nelly.
I don't get to book my own room because it is already pre paid by Chrysler, I work at an auto dealership and it is an award trip. So I don't have all the details yet. I know the dates, ports, and the ship celebrity constellation. Only thing I'm nervous about is that my wife and I are both in our early 30's and I've read that it's mainly an over 50's cruise line. Not that I don't like people over fifty.

Celebrity is a decent line ,better than others I could name.

I have been to both islands and really it boils down to what you enjoy as far as what there is to do there. For first time cruisers I would recommend you go on the cruise lines sponsored shore
excursions rather than striking out on your own.

If you like to drink a bit ,last time I was on Celeb. they offered a drink package for $44 a day which saved me and Mrs . Now I would never recommend anyone do anything sneaky or downright dishonest, but I just took the drink pkg. and ordered one for me at one bar and another one for Mrs. a bit later at another bar.

I took a NCL cruise to those locations a few years ago.

CruiseCritics members swear by Bonine. I bought a pack for something like 10 bucks at the airport when I arrived in Miami. I took tablets the first two days (one before you get on the ship) and didn't even feel the need to continue using them until the last night when we were going around the outskirt of a hurricane. Otherwise, it's smooth sailing.

Cozumel is known as a diving spot but that's not for me. We just walked around town for a bit. I later took a taxi around the island for an hour or so. You can take group van tours for that as well. I didn't think there was a lot to do so just walk around for a few hours and see the shops but I just went back on board and enjoyed the less crowded ship.

Roatan, we drove around the island and ate at a local place. Again, didn't have much time to thoroughly explore. Some nice hilly green scenery. Walk around and then relax. I find that with cruises, the ship is the destination. Don't try to pack in too many activities in ports. Really not a lot to get excited about.

My wife and I went on a Celebrity cruise a couple years ago when we were both in our late 20's. While we were definitely among the youngest on the ship (with the exception of peoples' kids), we had a great time. To be honest, the 50 and up crowd we met at the bars could outdrink most of my friends any day, and were a ton of fun.

I wouldn't worry too much about age - you'll find fun people to hang out with.

Does your trip come with shipboard credit?

There are many extra charges when you cruise.

As mentioned, save up. The cruises do like to nickle and dime you.

As for the sea sickness, you will hardly feel the waves. I've never been sick on a cruise ship before though.

I've never cruised Celebrity only Norweigian and Royal Caribbean. To the posters that state Celebrity is best, why do you say that? What has makes them the best to you? I've found the others mentioned to be excellent as well. The staff is tremendous! Some of the nicest people you will encounter.

Don't forget to allow $10.00 or so for each of you, per day, for tips to your cabin steward and dining staff.

I would go on a Celebrity Cruise some day

Then form your own opinion ,as mass market cruise lines go I feel that they have just a bit nicer ships ,cabins , food than RCL their partner.Slightly classier, more traditional vibe. I wont even rate NCL in the same category,my experiences with them were poor.
But this is just MY personal opinion, but if you want ,you can check their ratings with people like Conde Naste or other people who rate cruise lines.

Fair enough. Never cruised them, so I wouldn't know and only being inquisitive as to what made it for you.

We love cruising. Never been on Celebrity, but have sailed Royal Caribbean several times.

We've never had a problem with sea sickness. Like others have said, we always take Bonine as a precaution.

A great place to get lots of cruise information is a message board just like this one. You can find it at www.cruisecritic.com

check it out and don't worry. You will be hooked after your first cruise.

    exactly.

for me I've had a great time on NCL but a nightmare on RCL.

I'm trying to convince myself that we were just very unlucky on that RCL ship and we took all the bad luck so that others had a good time :D

if you want to find fault with any ship then you can do it - you see that all the time on Cruise critic. If you go armed with knowledge of what you are in for then you can approach it with a positive attitude and have a good time.
Same on here I guess with people who hate a casino / area and others who won;t hear anything bad said about it.

Knowledge and attitude - the key to a good trip.

remember - drinks aren't free - even in the casino! the special drinks come in special cups and you'll be charged extra. there will probably be a service charge of 10 to 12 bucks a day per person - be prepared for that.

some upgrades to meals and specialty restaurants will charge extra.

and because its all charged to a special ships card you don't see it until the end of the cruise (you can ask for a copy at ay time to check).

Go, enjoy, have fun... thats it really

    I wanna book a cruise now ...

    What date are you cruising?

Golfnut, When you get your cruise package.....

Look for location of your cabin.

Look for time of dinner sitting in the formal dinning room. There is early sitting, Late sitting, and My time dinning. Ask for "MY TIME DINNING" so
you are free to eat dinner any time.

Look to see if you got Travel insurance included in your package.

Look for the name of the Travel agent that planned the cruise for you.
    Ask that agent any questions.

Hey guy.... why worry about the age group on the ship? You will be hanging
out with your wife for company. Most married couples like to do their own
thing on the ship. They don't hang out with other married or single people.

You will find lots of happy cruisers on the ship. LucyR.

    Celebrity Constellation ship

Golfnut, Your cruise is only a 5 night cruise. That is considered a short cruise.
That means that all ages will be on that cruise because the cruise costs less
    than a 7 day cruise.

Tell your wife to pack lite since it is considered a short cruise but a lot of fun.
You will have a wonderful time on the ship. Lucy

Thanks or sharing. I found out that our cruise includes the premium beverage service for both of us, drinks $12 and under. Hopefully most drinks will fit into that price range. It also includes $200 for both of us for ship credits for excursions or spa. Also it said all gratuities are taken care of. So not sure how that's gonna work. Anyways thanks Again for all your help.
