Trying to decide between MGM and Cosmo for a long weekend in December (Sat-Tues). I have made reservations at both - Executive Queen suite at MGM and Queen Terrace Studio at Cosmo - both at nice rates. I just learned that Pacquiao is fighting that Saturday at MGM. How nuts will that make the property? Bad enough to influence my decision? I assume it will make self parking tough but what else will be affected?

Off the top of my head, cab lines will likely be a disaster.

Events like that can even impact other Strip properties. Any big event that brings in the crowds has that effect

I was there for the last fight at MGM 2 weekends ago? around then.... that whole weekend seemed busy, also was Mexican Independance Day, but nothing really seemed insane.

The only thing I would add to Shifter's comments is that it will be a "mass of humanity". You might think it is neat to see the MGM on fight night but I do no think most people would enjoy it.

Checkin on Saturday will be pretty busy. Casino will be nuts before and right after the fight. During the fight, not so bad - my guess.

If you decide to stay there, after checking in, go spend the evening elsewhere. Only crazy place on Sunday will be checkout.

I will take the opposite point of view. I love being at the MGM on fight night. The electricity in the crowd is a very unique experience, and there are usually celebrities walking amongst the masses. I was there for the Mayweather vs. DeLahoya fight, and seeing the MGM packed to the gills with people was one of the coolest things I have seen in Vegas.

The two drawbacks that have already been mentioned are spot on:
    (1) Gambling limits are extremely high. If you plan on gambling low limits, you will have to walk next door.

    (2) The cab line is insane. If you must take a cab after the fight, I would walk to Tropicana or up to Planet Hollywood.

Ill be there at that time ill try to swing by for sure to feel the excitement i love the vibe of a pack casino

Is it fair to assume that the fight crowd will be 80% male

If you are checking in Sat it will be very busy.Casino will be packed early and late.
By Sunday things quiet down and Mon and Tues will be back to normal.
If you get through Saturdays crowd you are home free.

MGM is so crazy on fight night that I won't go there. But I have problems with being too crowded, so that's probably just me.

You can barely move. Picture the largest casino in vegas just packed beyond all belief. I'm not sure you can possibly over exaggerate this.

Getting around would probably be even worse now, with the construction within MGM creating one heck of a choke point. It was annoying enough on a weeknight ...

Have not been there on a fight night, but I have seen concert crowds, and heck, even when KA lets out it is crowded, so I can imagine a big fight, and all the people who are hanging out that don't even attend the actual fight.

I hated it. Yes it was crowded, but it wasn't only crowded with gamblers, but with all the people that just wanted to be there. Every time I stepped outside of the casino, I was overwhelmed by scalpers. It is worse than walking by Wrigley Field in summer.

At least the Mlife check in was decent.

    Packed

I was there for Delahoya & Mayweather as well. It was a mob scene. Now add to it the amount of tables that have been taken out of play while the renovations are going on. It will be real busy. The whole bank of tables that they used to open on weekends, is now gone.

What everyone said is true. Packed table games with lousy players etc.

However, if you are a decent poker player there is a lot of money to be had.
Just watching people push all in every time they have an ace is just easy money.

People watching can also be fun if you can find a good perch.

We have only been in town one time for a fight night and will never go again. Totally different crowd than you'd see on any other busy night... and not different in a good way. Yea there will be a few celebs but there is also a ton of wanna be jerk offs too. If it were me, I'd actually re-book to a different date but that's just me.

Maybe its because Im one of the people there to watch the fights but it never seems overly crowded except right after the fights get out. Ive been to at least 6 UFC fights that either took place at Mandalay Bay or the MGM and have stayed at the MGM for 2 of those fights once on Superbowl weekend and once on Memorial day weekend neither time did it feel uncomfortably crowded except while exiting the arena after the fights ended. I will add that valet parking wil be full and only accesible to guests and the taxi lines after the fight will be long but in my experience only took about 15-20 minutes to get a cab. The sports book will be terrible right after the fights as people will be collecting there bets that they won but Im pretty sure the book would be closed by this time anyway if the fights werent happening.

Yep, fight weekends are packed...especially with a big name like Pacquiao to draw them in. Parking will be a mess at every casino around the MGM as people will be parking close by and walking to the MGM. The cab/valet lines will be long and don't expect to valet unless you get there early. Also, any casino that will be showing the closed circuit broadcast will be packed so that will involve casinos away from the MGM.

    fight night???

my girlfriend and I were at the MGM the night of the marquez pacqiao (sorry if misspelt) fight last nov and it was extremely busy. Immediately after the fight, as one of the responses noted the south end of strip near the mgm was packed with people who were all dressed very nice. I enjoyed the proverbial "buzz" that was in the air the energy was what vegas is all about so i enjoyed it. If your not into this type of frenzy dont stay or visit the mgm during the fight, it really depends on your personality.
