I've always wanted to try staying at NYNY since it's one of my favorite non-highend properties on the strip. However, none of the rooms really interest me except the penthouse suites, at least based on the crappy photos they have on their website and from the videos on the tube.

Can anyone tell me the type of play required for a penthouse suite to be comped? I'm mainly a baccarat player nowadays. Do they even have a high limit room with baccarat tables?

They do not have Bac in the HL room. The HL area is very small, only 5 or 6 BJ tables, that always seem empty. There's always a few people playing video poker at the bar (myself included), and only about 50 slot machines inside that area. It's very nice, quaint, and I'm real comfortable there - but IMO it doesn't compare to most strip HL areas.

The penthouse suites are nice, but there aren't many of them, and I usually get trumped by some bigger player (that doesn't take much), so I've only been in a 2bdrm penthouse once. I usually get a Ziggarat suite, which is ok, but terribly outdated, and real gaudy decor. The Marquis suite is a little more updated, but just a big room - nothing special. That being said, I still like NYNY - mostly because of the small size casino and the vibe, I don't usually play anything but slots or VP. But if you mainly play HL Baccarat, you would probably be dissappointed with the room and the casino!

NYNY has only 1 mini-baccarat table and no one is usually playing. In order to get a suite, you need to bet $300-500 per hand for at least 5-8 hours a day for 1 night comped since baccarat is a much slower game. Also, it depends if it the weekend which rooms cost more. I once stayed at NYNY, but played baccarat at Aria. I played for about 7-8 hours betting average of $300-400 per hand. I got 3 nights comped (of course I used my express comps).

If you play $100 minimum per hand with a decent bankroll, I would recommend a different casino, such as Aria, Bellagio or Mirage/MGM. Baccarat will be dead at NYNY. Even at $25 per hand, Aria has many mini-baccarat tables in the non HL room with several people playing.

When I go to Vegas, I only play baccarat and sportsbetting. I do not play any other game.

I just returned from staying at NYNY. We were given a Penthouse Suite and a Players Suite connector. I only played Bac there.

I would have to disagree with the other posters. Perhaps killa only got 3 nights comped because he was staying at NYNY, but PLAYED at Aria. All MGM properties are very competitive for business, and hosts do not like it when you stay at their property, and play somewhere else. NYNY has one midi-bac table in the high limit (HL) room. While true nobody usually playing it, they are happy to open it upon request.

I played from $100-$500 a hand for probably 2-3hrs. All our food was taken care of, and both suites were comped (though it was only one night midweek). The service from the staff was outstanding. My host met me at check in, and periodically checked up on me throughout our stay. I have gambled across the country at many different types of casinos and never received service like this ANYWHERE from ANY host. The floor people allowed us to eat right at the table, and our host comped us top shelf liquor in the HL room.

NYNY seems to highly value any black action, obviously because they don't get much. If you're betting black, you will get some real personal service. I really got this old Vegas feeling that anything I wanted (food, drinks, whatever/however) would be taken care of, and it was. I usually stay at Bellagio, and have never gotten service even remotely close to what I experienced at NYNY. Another example of this was early in the morning when the HL room was closed I wanted to play midi-bac. Some suit walked up to me and asked what I needed and I explained that I wanted to play Midi-Bac. No problem, he actually turned the mini table on the main floor into a midi table just for me.

The Penthouse suite was very nice. Definitely on par with a suite in one of the higher end properties. There is no mini-bar, but our host made sure the fridge was stocked with snacks and sodas before arrival. She also sent up a fruit basket.

I would definitely stay there again, and will probably shift a higher amount of my play there.

Hmm... I'm worried about the lack of bacc tables at NYNY but I do want to look for a property where the comps are easier to get for trips where I want to do some lighter gambling ($100-200 a hand).

It sounds like NYNY is really good for those trips. Much better than say Mirage perhaps?

Mirage or Mandalay Bay are probably the best places to gain comps at your level of play. I know MB is pretty descent for baccarat. There are a few mini-baccarat tables and 1 midi-baccarat table. During the week, the tables are usually dead. The Mirage has baccarat also, but from what I remembered, they have the weird board where it shows B, T, P in a column instead of the usual TV screen. They may have changed it, but I'm not sure.

I will be in Vegas next Friday, playing baccarat. Good luck on your trip.

If you consider light gambling at $100-200 per hand, go to Aria or Bellagio. At this rate, you won't get too much attention, but if you play serious (at least $500 per hand), I would recommend one of these casinos.

I do stay at Aria and it has become my favorite MGM property. But like you said, $100-200 per hand won't get me much more than a room. Just looking for a nice place to stay and some good meals for spontaneous trips where I don't plan on doing a whole lot of gambling. I don't like MB. I think the property thinks too highly of itself and I don't like the casino layout and location. Good luck on your trip.
