In November will be my 7th time to Vegas and third staying at the GN downtown. What is different about this trip is the first 6 times I went with my husband and this time will be a girls weekend.

When I first started gambling at 18 I only played slot. Learned blackjack cause I hung around with alot of guys. The first time we ever went to Vegas we learned to play craps at the Stardust. Spent alot of time at the sit down craps table at casino royal my first 4 trips to Vegas. Anyhow I mostly enjoy poolside blackjack at the GN, i'm not a big 6/5 lover but for the atmosphere i will give in. Us girls are going to get drunk and gamble. I thought I would try some VP and see how it goes.

My first question is what are the best machines downtown and where? I won't go to Plaza or LVC i hate those places.

My second question is ( don't laugh at me) when you play VP machines that are around a bar are the drinks free?

    Thanks

#1 -- >>> Main Street Station would be your best option. Lots of 9/6 JOB (including the Boar's Bar), and 8/5 Bonus, among others.

#2 -- >>> Yes, free drinks ... they will usually put a receipt in a glass in front of you. But, be sure to tip the bartender for each round of freebies.

Best places for Video Poker at a bar is playing at Main Street Station. 9/6 paytable on Jacks or Better (JOB).

Yes the drinks are "free" but with a couple of qualifications. Most bartenders will give you that first drink as a comp, but then some of them might require you be playing 5 quarters in order to continue getting comped drinks. Others really don't care if you are tipping a buck a drink. Depends on mood, stick up their arse, latest memo from management about comped drinks etc.

MSS has the best VP. WHich bar is the most fun to sit around and play with most comped drinks?

If you get down to the strip you can hit the Cosmopolitan. The video poker bars there don't hacpve the best paytables, though ther're not horrible. You can play full coin at 1.25 a spin and they have an extensive cocktail menu. Cocktails there are crafted with fresh fruit juices, spices and quality liquors. They have the best cocktails of any vp bar I have played at (free if you put in 20 or more and play max coin). I recommend the velvet mojito. It's so good I had to figure out how they make it so I could make them for myself at home.

Cosmo is also a fun atmosphere, good for people watching, and I hit my first royal there. :) if you're not a member of the players club then sign up and ask about the promotion where they reimburse $100 in losses with $100 in freeplay.

This is all very subjective but my two favs are MSS and the upstairs bar at Four Queens, called Chicago Brewing Co. There they have both NFL Sunday Ticket and also MLB Network. So depending on the season... The beer & wine selection is also very good at Chicago Brewing and they make a very tasty pizza! Thin or deep dish.

MSS has nothing but off air networks and ESPN at the bar.

In the end the favorite bar for a fun time is the one you win at.:poke:

Any GN VP bar experiences? The D? isn't supposed to have a cool bar area? I have to be able to sell the girls on this. One is a degenerate if she wins any sort of $$. The 2 others are mostly Blackjack unless we are at mermaid

Does Mermaid have VP? We like the Mermaid for getting our drink on purpose.

We are going in Nov only for a weekend. We still have 6 weeks and it's going to be the longest 6 weeks ever.

I refuse to play at the Nugget because the pay tables are so bad. No opinion about the D because I've always just walked by it when it was the Fitz. Just no interest in walking in there.
There have been several posts about the D & the long bar, so I'm sure someone will chime in.

Packers play at 10AM on November 4th & 18th, so if you are a fan, those games might not be on the local Fox station. The game on 11/25 will be televised nationally at 5 PM Vegas time.

I saw WI as location and automatically assume Packer fan:poke:

I am a huge Packer fan and play in 3 FF leagues. Our flight leaves to come home at 1 on Sunday so we will be watching most of the game in the airport. Hopefully we can find it.

We were in Vegas last Oct for a Brewers playoff and packer sunday night game. That was a great time. We were a table full of friends poolside at GN for 8 hours. Most fun I have ever had.

The Fitz/D upstairs bar (Vue), has 8-5 bonus progressives (at least I hope it still does), and good enough TVs to see the game on as well. Not quite as nice as the Boar's Head at MSS, but not bad. The Long Bar downstairs is laughable for pay tables, but if the vibe there is what you are more interested in, plenty of folks obviously like it. I am always worried that someone will report the demise of the Vue, its been a great hangout for a long time.

Thanks for everyone's advice I am going to check out as many as I can.

Please share any other advice you have about downtown VP. We are going for fun but we also like winning.

At the 1st floor bars at The Cal, they have 9/6 double double bonus, (DDB) which has an expected return of 98.98%. Not bad but very addictive and very pricey if things go badly. The thrill of 4 aces w/ a kicker or 4 low 2, 3, or 4, with a kicker can be VERY TEMPTEING.:wink2:
Same game at Main Street Boar's Bar pays 9/5 which has an expected payout of 97.87%.

I just want to stress this that all paytables at the same bar, may not necessarily be the same and you need to be aware. They are at MSS & The Cal. But we have gambled at other bars and found different paytables side by side, or different from one side of the bar to the other.

I never gamble on the casino floor, (few exceptions like 100 play) so the only games I am quoting are at the various bars.

    Joe!

To the OP, Four Queens has the same VP paytables at their two larger downstairs bars as well. The one closest to the player's club has the best atmosphere. Also, most of the games in the 4 Queens have progressive jackpots, so if you want to spice things up a bit they can have some high expected returns.

The Cal also sometimes has very high jackpots at their two bars. The jackpots are different at the two bars. The upstairs bar is bigger but I don't like the atmosphere compared to the downstairs bar.

GN's paytables suck as Joe said. But your and GFs might like the atmosphere. They have two bars, one in front and one toward the back.

The new bar at the D did not have good paytables when I briefly checked it on a recent trip. The place was dead, but it was a weekday in the middle of the day.

I like the MSS bar a lot, but it's not going to be a "hip" place to hang out for you and your friends.

I guess the reason we go upstairs at Four Queens is the bartender Kim and also the fact that I hit hit a $6,900 progressive up there.:poke:

    Good bartenders are a plus

Four queens has an upstairs? I thought only D/fitz was like that. Guess I spend too much time drinking at Mermaids.

If anyone is in Vegas Nov 16-18 and see's 4 thirty somethings wearing hot pink t shirts that say ladies weekend in Vegas on friday thats up.

Four Queens doesn't have a full floor with casino like The D upstairs, but some of the restaurants/bars are at the second level.

I seriously thought I was going crazy, I asked my husband last night and he said remember there is a restaurant and bar up there with VP. Then it clicked.

wow.....I want to check this out
we're going to spend a night downtown soon
we've never really won down there; our experience is that MS is a nice atmosphere and I once got a 4OAK there but no royals and nothing at all at the other casinos
will be sure to go to Four Queens upstairs bar this time
