many of us here , myself included have a certain expectation when vacationing in las vegas
such as a great view or quiet rooms or certain resturants to eat at
so if you could go to las vegas but had to stay at the worst hotels ( to you )
or eat at the (again to you ) shittiest resturants ...would you do it just so you could be in the place we all love so much ?
me ... well sure i would do it , i love las vegas that much to put up with some discomfort so that i could be there
my worst hotel ... imperial palace
    my worst food ....mcdonalds
so what are your worst choices ??

Nope. Lots of other places to travel and enjoy the things I want to. If I can't get what I want when I go to Vegas, I'm going somewhere else:peace:

The most disappointing room I ever had was at a hotel I loved and still do, in memoriam, the Stardust. I was expecting some kind of palatial appointments and what I ended up with reminded me of a dorm room! This was in the out-back section. Just add black-light posters and bookshelves made of planks and construction blocks and it could pass for University Of Whatever! One of my extended family members called it "The Stalag", but I didn't think it was that bad.

However, I was so glad to be back in LV that I put up with it and look back on it fondly -- kinda. :)

I've only been once, but for me, part of the fun was staying somewhere a little fancy (we had a corner suite at Aria), and getting all dressed up and eating fancy meals. I had saved up a while for the trip, and wanted to get my money's worth, regardless of how much I had to spend.

just part of the whole experience, I guess, but everybody is different.

As long as the machines are on, tables are hopping, and drinks flowing, I could not care less where I stay or eat at. I go for the atmosphere, gambling, & booze, not the rooms or food. I would stay at the Super 8 next to Ellis Island and eat at McDonald's every meal if I had no other choice.

I was the most disappointed with the Venetian. We stayed there on our first trip, and I hated it from start to finish.

I don't like whatever smell they pump into the casino, the room wasn't the one we requested and it was FAR. I think it was 2 or 3 elevators and I would have been lost if it weren't for my DH.

Most disspointing dining experience was the Tropicana champagne brunch.

If I were by myself I think I could totally rough it and still have plenty of fun. However since my wife will never let me go without her (because she loves Vegas as much as I do) I think there is defenitly a floor to the accomodations we would schedule a trip with. Matter of fact right now I'm having trouble finding the right time to go because I'm having trouble stringing the right arrangements of comp or inexpensive stays together at our normal go-to places.

I dont have over the top expectations. i would like an ok room, and ok food choices.

I dont need a nice view and actually enjoy a quirky view.

At binions my room overlooked the roof of another building so i could see all the conduit and ac units, very industrial looking. i liked that.

Once at el cortez my view was of the rooftop but if i could open the window i would have been able to walk right out onto it. odd shape. i could also see across into the executive offices to see people working. pretty neat i thought.

i eat a lot of small meals all day, every 3 hours tops so i dont need special fancy places, just something quick is fine with me.

I sort of like the off the beaten path places. i stayed at ip once, the rooms were fine but when you walked outside really hungiver, you were right back in the party, no break. Seemed almost too close to the action for me.

    Ahhhhh, them memories......

On my first trip to Las Vegas (with my ex-wife) we were booked into the Landmark.

OMG!! Just the worst experience imaginable!

The staff was rude. The room was worn. The A/C didn't really work. We had to put the bathmat inside the shower, the floor was so gross. And they didn't have a bathmat big enough for the room's carpet, which left the soles of your feet black with filth if you happened to walk on it with your bare feet! We tossed and turned every hour we were in the hard, uncomfortable beds.

Since my first Las Vegas trip, I have required my children to jump up and cheer with me every time they see the old Landmark get blown up while watching the movie "Mars Attacks!" And I've made them pledge, upon the threat of disinheritance, to contiunue to do so after my death.

And here's the rub: I hated staying at the Landmark so much that I've made over 50 return trips to Vegas over the years and can't wait until the next one!!

OH man, your "worst buffet" bid reminded me: Worst buffet I've had was hands down Sahara! That place was straight up Golden Coral 10 minutes till close on a Tuesday! And the price was about the same as Golden Coral even AFTER the players club discount! (not a fan of Coral in case you cant tell) It was like $14 before discount and I would have been PISSED to have payed that much for it!

Worst place we ever stayed (it was the best we could afford that particular trip and we weren't comp savvy back then) was the Riviera. And even that room was okay. I remember thinking at the time it was what I might find at a Days Inn type of thing. We had fun anyway and enjoyed a lot of the shops around the hotel/casino. In fact, we still have some expensive, fancy stained glass cat lamps we found in a shop there devoted to cats (the shop is long gone, alas).

One of the worst buffets we've had was also the Riviera. The absolute worst one was some place just off the Strip. I think we had a 2 for 1 coupon. I don't remember where it was and it might even be gone now. It was really cheap and you got what you paid for. As far as the Riviera's food, on the other hand, we've eaten at their coffee shop many times (Kady's) and always found it just fine.

I stayed at a room in the Landmark tower in the late 1970s and rather enjoyed it. Loved that 240' long swimming pool shaped like a whale. The Redd Foxx show there was hilarious.

The downside was some very noisy elevators and the fact that the hotel caught fire on Sunday afternoon shortly before we planned to head home. The fire started on the 23rd floor and smoke began billowing down through the elevator shafts into the casino. This was before the deadly fires at the former MGM Grand (now Bally's) and at the Hilton. Most people in the casino were not taking the fire warnings seriously and refused to leave until they were herded out of the building by security. A few people were treated for smoke inhalation including the guest who carelessly started the fire by falling asleep in his room while he was smoking a cigarette.

I don't have enormously high standards for a hotel room as long as it is clean and comfortable with everything in working order and there is enough space so I don't feel cramped.

By far the worst experience I ever had was at the Paris shortly after it opened. We arrived midweek at 7 PM for a 3 night stay and to had wait more than an hour for our room. They said that housekeeping was short staffed. Then the room had serious electrical and plumbing problems. Despite call after call for maintenance service and more calls to the executive offices, nobody ever showed up to repair the problems. Only once did we get maid service. Then they overcharged my credit card by more than $500. It took me nearly a year to get it resolved, mainly because the people in their billing department simply would not answer the phone or return messages. Since the ownership change, I would assume they have cleaned up their act by now.

The other bad experience was at Circus Circus. The carpet and other furnishings were badly worn. The soundproofing was almost nonexistent. We could hear loud sounds from rooms all around us, even on the other side of the hallway. All weekend there were trays of dirty dishes lining both sides of the hallway and no one ever showed up to remove them.

Fortunately the few bad experiences I've had at Vegas hotels have been far outnumbered by all the good ones.
