Slots Looking to Dabble in Some New Games

I'm mainly a VP, blackjack and craps player, but I'm thinking about trying some new things this trip. Any suggestions for fun games with decent odds? I'm thinking Pai Gow poker, anything else? No slots!

 

VP, BJ, and Craps are also my go to games. Every now and then I find Let it Ride to be a fun change of pace. I think its somewhere close to 97%?

 

I recommend some bastard variants of what you're already familiar with.

Spanish 21 (my favorite)
Blackjack Switch
Ultimate Texas Hold'em
3-Card Poker

Also, be sure to play some Roulette.

 

Let it Ride

Ill second the vote for Let it Ride lower house edge and ability to pull back part of your bet makes this a better game for me. Roulette has a high 5.26 % house edge Casinos love that edge Let it ride odds are like 3.51 % which is a better play. Also there is some skill involved rather than just dumb blind luck

 

If you're wanting a new game with a low HA, try baccarat. Otherwise, I know my mother plays pai gow poker and likes it because there a lot of pushes. She says you can really stretch a dollar at that game

 

PAI GOW POKER is fun. And there's some cool carny side bets on a number of the bastard versions that have some cool jackpots.

As for the pushes and stretching out the game . . . yeah! The first time I played it was at Cosmo 2 years back and I bought in for $400 at 8pm on a Sunday night . . . . cashed out at 8am the next morning . . . with $400 exactly, hahaha!!!!

Pai Gow Poker: 2.73% (but it's slow, so you don't lose money very fast)
3 Card Poker: 2.01% for Ante/Play bets, 7.28% for Pair Plus, total of 5.32
Ultimate Texas Hold Em: 2.185% per Ante, 0.526% for total bet
Let It Ride: varies, between 3 and 4%
Mississippi Stud: 4.91% for ante, 1.37% for total bet
Casino War: 2.3% or 2.8% depending on rules
Crazy 4 Poker: 3.4%
Pai Gow Tiles: around 2%, depending on strategy
Blackjack Switch: 2.55%
Spanish 21: 0.4 to 0.76%, depending on rules
Baccarat: a little over 1% depending on which way you're betting and the commission

 

I have a hard time playing anything besides blackjack because the odds are so much worse for the other games (BJ is around 0.29% house edge with "vegas rules").

When I'm not playing blackjack, I'll play craps as my "fun" game, since there's a lot more going on, and it's social.

Baccarat is OK - it's got a relatively low house edge, but it's not much different in terms of mechanics from Casino War. The rules and player actions just aren't varied or interesting enough to hold my attention.

 

How about some "crapless craps"? I think they have it at The STRAT . Don't know much about it and was thinking of trying it just for the hell of it.....

I was thinking of playing a green chip on black every morning at the roulette wheel. Just one bet, win or lose, then start my day. On my last three days I would bet a black chip. One bet. Win or lose.

At the Cal I noticed that a lot of people play keno on their last nite before they leave to go home the next morning. Many of them are playing out their last few dollars of their depleted bankroll, hoping for a long shot. Thing is, the drinks are flowing, the social aspect is fun and alluring, seems everyone is having a good time on their last nite in Vegas.

I might just join them next time out...lol!

 

I vote for pai gow poker. Play some slot with a mini-game if you're up, just to really mix it up. I hate slots, but every once in a while, I'll have fun playing some stupid reel slot with a mini-game

 

Keno is a great way to kind of wind down . . . and if the drink service is good, that's even better. I won $500 on a $2.50 "20 Pick" (none of the numbers hit) a couple weeks ago at Cortez.

Yeah, I've heard the basic Keno odds are horrible, but the good news is you can buy a $1 ticket and worst case scenario . . . you lose a buck every 5 minutes or so. You'll hit a winner (usually only a couple dollars) here and there to break up the monotony.

 

3-Card or Texas Hold-Em

If I'm not playing blackjack, I will almost always be at 3-card poker or the Ultimate Texas Hold-Em table-game.

The hold-em game has far better player odds... just remember: you do not play this the same way as you play real Texas Hold 'em... the main difference is that you are not playing against other players - only against the dealer.
So, you (properly) stay in on hands that would not stay in for in a real poker game.
I find it fun and I often seem to have winning sessions...not a lot, but $20 to $50 up at nearly every table I've played. (Of course, I walk when I've played for a half-hour or so when I'm up.)

Many tables have bonus & progressive-bonus sucker-bets... I would stay away from those bets.

 

I too am mainly a craps, bj and vp player. If i'm not hitting at those I sit at a mini bac table for awhile. There's no wrong way to play and has a low house edge. At MC they have a "dragon" mini back table(at least in feb they did). If There is no commision but that catch is that if both players have king/7 then its a "dragon". You can bet on dragon, which pays something like 15:1, but if a dragon hits you lose your player, dealer, or tie bet. I may have gotten the cards wrong needed to be a dragon. I love this no commission table because I only play dealer.

Ultimate Texas Hold-Em is pretty ubiquitous. Most any good-sized casino will have it, albeit only one or two tables.

 

I've won most often at 4-queens... their table is so often empty, it's hard to pass up going head-to-head with the dealer.
