American flight cancellations

American Airlines is starting to cancel flights, due to pilots calling in sick, because of labor issues. American has cancelled 249 flights already and will probably cancel another 300 this week. Anyone feeling the effect of this? The airlines said they are going to look at their flight schedules all the way until November 1st if this trend keeps up. I have my Las Vegas flight booked with them. I would think they would take the crews (That are working) from the smaller markets and put them on the larger market flights. It sure would be a bust if I can't make my October trip because of a work slowdown.

 

This is something that worries me now, too. I've already got our tickets booked and paid for the middle of October with American. Hoping they can get this figured out before then.

 

If it is the money, perhaps they could be allowed to share with the baggage fees in some way...lord knows they are cleaning up there.....or adopt their system..."If you would like a pilot & navigator on this flight, deposit 10 $ upon boarding.....

 

That's good to know. My friends' AA flight was canceled home from Vegas and they tried to put him on a US Air flight through Phoenix that took 4 hours to get to LA. He ended up getting a refund and booking through spirit. But we never knew what the deal was until now.

 

Anytime we've booked with American going anywheres, we've had problems. Going with Southwest...TODAY!!!

 

I remember on one of my first few trips getting to LV and American Airlines had a strike stranding lots of folk and putting a damper on their vacations, worrying about rebooking and getting home. Just made me appreciate Southwest more!......and no baggage fees!

Southwest Airlines and Transport Workers Union Local 555, which represents about 8,500 employees at the Dallas-based carrier, have filed for federal mediation after contract talks stalled.

After 14 months of negotiations, little progress has been made in reaching an agreement, the local union said. A Southwest spokesman said some progress had been made.

 

I've been keeping an eye on this too as I have 2 trips to Vegas in October. Today they cancelled 300 flights. Sure hope this doesn't continue for much longer.
