You know those “loans” that you never expect to get back? The ones that are really just gifts, but you call them loans so as not to hurt anyone’s pride. Well…I actually got repaid on one of those this weekend!

So, now I have some found money burning a hole in my pocket…and Vegas in less than a week! I’ll use some of this money for cabs, tips, drinks, snacks etc. But even after my non-gambling cash requirements are taken care of, I should have about $400 to play with. And I figure, what the hell. Might as well try to hit a long shot and win big, right?

So, how would you play this? Let’s assume it is $400 and you’re trying to turn it into at least a few grand...or nothing.

Moneyline on a huge college football underdog?
    A few spins on a $25 or $100 slot?
A few (or just one) number on roulette?

I’m not necessarily looking for the absolute best bet in terms of house advantage. Nor am I'm interested in trying to grind my way to a profit with this money - I have my regular bankroll for that. I’m just looking for something fun that might turn into a quick score if I get really lucky.

i would say a HL slot, but i have never had good luck on anything over $10. but you can still hit pretty good on a $10 slot, so i might do that.

I would 2nd the slot attempt. Your payoff could a lot higher then a 35-1 inside number at roulette or a money line bet.

    Good Luck

Personally, I play a mixture of High LImit Slots and High Limit Video Poker.
Maybe split it up 50/50 that way.
You'll likely get longer play out of VP and while looking for the big score (4 of a kind, straight flush, or Royal) you'll usually hit some smaller stuff along the way. If nothing else, at least it'll stretch out a while.

For slots, I never play above $10 credits either, and I'm usually playing the multi-line ones that you can do for 9 lines at $1 or more per line.

On a $40 VP bet I hit 4 3's for a $3200 payoff (my best Vegas win to date).

Pretty much all the bets in the center of a craps table.

Yeah, if you're gonna play craps anyway, you may as well throw out a $10 high-low or maybe a $25 hard-way bet from time to time just to keep things interesting.

The difference with Craps and Slots/VP, though, is you know exactly what you're going to get paid if your bet wins. With Slots/VP, you always have that slight shot of the mammoth win.

For something like that I would be looking towards an older video slot, something 8-12 years old, that typically has something in the area of 15-20 lines to play and a free spin bonus feature that can be retriggered.

Games that come to mind might be:
    Cleopatra
    Catch a Wave
    Leopard Spots
    Rich Girl
    Davinci Diamonds
    Free Spin Frenzy

The bet amounts on these would be big enough that if you hit a bonus game you should get a pretty nice payoff ($1500-4000 would be good, but can be higher or lower) and small enough that you can actually get some play out of the machine to give yourself a chance to hit a bonus.

My buddy puts 100 on the cubs winning the world series every year. He might as well flush that money down the toilet.

The wife will always throw down a bet at the start of the season on the Red Sox winning it all. It paid rather nicely the first time!

My long-shot is usually a parlay card on college bowl games around New Years.

    Hardways.

I also go out every Feb with a buddy that does way too much sports books - I match one of his bets just so we can root together and watch some games but there are so many side and parlay bets on there it feels like the worst bet in the casino.... typically win a little by end of trip.

Well, if I understand you correctly, you want to place a bet that is considered a long shot and turn your $400 into a few grand.

With that criteria I would go to roulette and place 4 $100 bets. If one of those numbers hit, then you are $3200 richer after just one hit. Long shot, but definitely doable.

One number I would put on is the last number that hit. I have observed more than my fair share of repeaters at roulette.

    Good Luck.

Roulette black 15! I have watched two guys on two different trips walk up to the table and put $500 on black 15 and HIT, that def is a long shot bet.

    Nice...

For me it would be playing $10 WOF (either $20 or $30 max bet) and some $2 ($10 max bet) TDB VP (4 Aces w/ a kicker pays the same as a RF) or $5 ($25 max bet) DDB:drunk:

    Long Shot Play?

I would take a $5 pass line bet and put $50 each on the hard 6 and hard 8, 'working'.

If one hits, parlay it. If the parlay hits, walk with your $5000+.

You should be able to get 4 tries at that.
