Wynn or Encore?

I will be heading to Vegas in November and will be staying three nights at either Wynn or Encore. I have currently booked Encore and it is going to cost me about $350 for three nights along with $200 in free play.

I had concerns about staying at this property due to it's location but the offer is almost too good to pass up.

My conerns are that I am a low limit table game player with some VP mixed in and while I would prefer to do the majority of my gambliing where I am staying during the evening hours, I don't mind walking during the day and will at night to if I have to but would like to keep that at a minimum as I seem to get a little more buzzed as the day goes on!

I havent been to Vegas since encore has been open so I ahve never stepped inside of it.

I am sure the rooms in the Wynn are just as nice but Encore just looks to be a step above. While I could care less about the restaurants, I really like to stay in a nice room and like the atmosphere at a nicer casino..

I guess my question is should i stay at Encore or Wynn? i am thinkning Wynn might be better as it is one resort closer to other hotels. I will not be able to afford to play more than $15 blackjack for very long and am concerned that I will have to leave there to find lower limit tables.

Encore is a bit nicer, in my opinion, and the difference in distance is pretty marginal. The hotels are connected by an indoor walkway. For all practical purposes, they are the same property.

There's almost always $15 blackjack available, with decent rules (6 deck, 3:2, H17 DAS RSA LS). Sometimes they'll bump it up to $25 or down to $10. Even if there are not $15 seats at the Encore (which has a smaller, roomier, and less smoky casino), the Wynn will probably have some.

Encore's my favorite casino on the Strip in terms of atmosphere, friendly dealers, etc., and pretty good rules to boot.

Comps for table players suck unless you're $150/hand+, but the pit boss will give you a buffet comp if you play long enough at low levels.

If you're playing at $25/hand, the Mirage offers S17 tables with the same rules - likewise (usually) at MGM. Encore will do that very occasionally during slow periods (normally $100, $50 when it's slow, $25 when it's totally dead).

Wynncore properties have turned into mid-America, drunken zoos. Keep in mind that his properties just lost a full AAA diamond due to their new focus on nightclubs (and not customer service).

Wynn isn't my favorite place, but that's totally an unfounded rumor about the AAA diamonds. both hotels are still listed on the 2012 AAA Five Diamond Awards document on the aaa.com website. they don't change ratings mid-year, so the earliest that it could possibly be reduced is next January.

 

You won't be disappointed at either of the two properties. The staff is friendly (at least that's what I have experienced), cocktail service is fine and they have a wide variety of table games with various table limits. So you'll probably be very satisfied with any of the two. As far as walking is concerned I would go with Wynn. Even though the two properties are next to eachother, you'll have to pass Wynn everytime you want to go somewhere and wonder why you dind't choose to stay at Wynn.

 

Both are excellent properties. I prefer Encore due to the better rooms, more intimate feel and natural casino lighting.

Speaking as a low limit BJ player, I've notice the table limits are pretty much the the same. At 15 dollars a hand you'll most likely be relegated to 6:5 BJ.

Personally I love Encore over Wynn for the rooms and the two resorts are connected with a walk way of shops so it's really like one big resort. Walk out of the south door at Wynn that puts you on the overpass to the Fashion Show mall and from there you're in TI and then off to the Mirage where you're center strip. It's a piece of cake walk and in November you should have a great crowd at Wynn and Encore. I'd avoid the resort in the summer, the EBC brings in some real undesirables.

 

I would say the primary differences that I think might influence someone to pick one or the other are:

- On days or weekends when EBC are open, and nights when XS and/or Surrender are open, the Wynn side is definitely the calmer, more "adult" side of the complex. If younger and into clubbing stay at Encore; if you're older and/or just want to avoid the "club kid" crowd, you'll have a better chance of doing so if you stick to the Wynn side of the property

- if you plan on hitting the rest of the strip, you're that much closer if you stay on the Wynn side. You're still far from the heart of the strip either way, but if you want to walk to pretty much anything other than Fashion Show mall or Palazzo, you're already going to be doing a lot of walking anyway, so why add an extra trek from Encore through Wynn every day just to get to the starting point of the rest of the strip?

- IMO most of the better restaurants are on the Wynn side.

Personal choice is certainly a factor in everyone's Las Vegas experience (of course) but Wynn properties have some of the best customer service anywhere in the city. Especially when staying at the Tower Suites.

As one who is fond of the Wynn properties and stays there often, I'm interested in knowing where you got your information.

You've gotten some really good advice from fellow posters, but based on what you're asking, I'll say this.

Yeah. Pick Encore. There are certain hotels I tell people they need to experience at least once. Encore is one of them. The Wynn rooms ARE nice, but the Erooms and casino and just a bump above. I've stayed at Encore 4 or 5 (6? 7?)times and Wynn once. (I'm staying at Wynn this trip as a change-up from staying at encore past few trips.) If you're a room guy, then go for Encore.

One thing I like about Encore is that unlike Wynn and other places, there is a place to get coffee and pastries right outside the elevators at Encore. Really nice not having to walk through a casino to get some caffeine. The sundries shop is also right by the elevators, which is right by check-in.

For the most party, Encore is pretty quiet. Especially in the daytime. My wife and I pretend it's our own private casino and we've allowed some stragler to wander through.

Yeah, that little walk through Encore, then the walkway to Wynn can get a little irritating if you do it a lot, but for one trip, you won't blink an eye. It's a quick trip and you'll appreciate the calm of Encore before hitting the crowds that can hit at Wynn from the show, or kids heading to the clubs.

I also think check-in is faster and easier at Encore, Taxi drop you about 40 yards from check-in. Elevators to your room are just as close, as opposed to Wynn, where you have to walk through the casino.

And jilly is right. All the good eats are at Wynn.

Also, if you need stuff like snacks/tolietries/cokes, etc, there's a Walgreen just north of Encore if you don't feel like walking down to Venetian to hit the one there.

Speaking as someone who's been staying at Wynncore since they opened, I'll admit there's been a drop in quality from the past, due to cost cutting staffing issues, but still, they have given me above and beyond service when I've had issues. (Frex, I told this story in another post, but I left my laptop in a cab, which drove off. Encore security used video to locate the cab and specific driver, called them back and waited with me till I got my laptop back. I've had other stuff like that happen.)

Try Encore. View the little extra walk as your bit of VERY pretty calm before hitting the strip.

 

FI - good to see you around...seems like you've been absent a while. I couldn't agree w/ you more....the Lobby bar right off of the elevators is one of my favorite parts about Encore. It's the first place I hit in the AM for my espresso and we usually stop in for a nightcap on our way to bed.

I'll be curious to hear what you think of the remodeled rooms at Wynn...they look nice and a lot like the Encore decor.

I booked a 3 days stay at Encore. My first stay in this hotel. Wynn I stayed 3-4 times, years ago.
Please, have I to go for check-in to the Wynn registration (is it for both hotels?)or does have the Encore an own registration for their guests ?

 

Encore has its own registration and entrance. Tell the cab driver Encore and that's where you'll get dropped off. In the doors, turn right and there you are. The elevators are just beyond the Registration desk.

farking, note that Jilly said most, not all. Society Cafe and Sinatra are a match for anyplace in town, and are among our favorite restaurants on the planet.

sunshine, they have their own check-in. Your taxi will drop you off within 40 feet or so from the check-in. It is very convenient.

The three nights will be a total of about $325 with tax and resort fees. Obvioulsy the plus is that I get $200 in free play. My dilemna is the overall casino atmosphere and table limits. I will be there by myself and prefer a livelier casino as opposed to laid back with exceptional service but I do like a decent room.

I arrive on 11/19 and have the following booked
Planet Hollywood for all four nights totaling about $425
Aria booked on 11/21 and 11/23 $312 total with $75 dining credit
Encore booked 11/20 to 11/23 for the $325 mentioned above with the $200 in free play

As i have mentioned in the past, I don;t mind walking but would like to do most of my evening gambling at my home base and am not comfortable palying more than $15 blackjack. I know at Planet Hollywood or Aria I can walk easily to find a game if need to where Ecnore gives me less options for a quick walk if i have to.

I am solicting help to make up my damn mind!!!

I would take PH/Aria by itself or a combo of PH and Aria. While it may not be your cheapest option, it sounds like you might be happier with those two. I could walk from Encore to wherever, but not for four nights! Thats just me though. Both PH and Aria have better locations if you do like to casino hop, more food choices within a short distance, and an atmosphere that would probably be more to your liking.

 

I've never stayed at Wynn but I have stayed at Encore. The hotel is beautiful, 2 minute walk to Wynn poker room . The room is really nice, we had a fantastic view of the strip which was one of the better views I've ever had. 700sq ft room with soaking tub and TV....it's all I need for some R&R after donking 50% of my bankroll in the first day to AA vs KK and random $100 field bets at the craps table

 

We had the same dilema, we are going next week and decided on Wynn. I like the looks of the Encore rooms better, but since we are older, we don't want to stay up all night and hear the noise of the two night clubs at Encore. That honestly, was the only deciding factor for us.
I read through the trip reports on travel advisor and talked with the host there, and they all said since we feel this way, our best bet is to ask for a high up room away from Encore, facing the golf course.
I don't know because I have never stayed at either, so will post a trip report when we get back. I hope you will too, because I still don't know if we made the right decision. Hope we both did for our own specifications of what we want!
