Not worth the bother in my opinion. You have two issues.

    1 - Liquids and TSA
2 - Airlines have rules against it - not usually enforced, but could be.

No need to be so sneaky to get it by TSA. As long as it fits in the quart zip log bag and is under 3oz, TSA doesn't care. Anything over 3oz and TSA will make you toss it at security. For a bachelor party trip, we put 4-5 of those small bottles in each of our quart sized bags and had no trouble getting them thru security.

And while on the plane, don't be so obvious when the flight attendants are around or drink enough that you get impaired.

I brought home 2 bottles of Bacardi out of the mini bar in my quart bag, no problem.

You are not aloud "drink" them on the plane technically, but as long as they are the mini's and are in a small zip loc bag you can bring them. Just don't let the flight attendants see you pouring them.

If you are found doing this, they have the right to have you met at the airport by police. They do not eff around anymore with airplane rules. They can deny you boarding if you appear drunk or "attitudinal" in any way.

Which is a shame bc I totally have a collection of bar minis. You know how they have free mini's on large bottles sometimes? The guy at the liquor store said just to take it off and put it on whatever you want to buy, these are samples from the manufacturer and they want you to have them. Whether that is true or not, it is convenient for me to believe it! ;) Hello, vodka samples!

I usually have 2-3 bottles in my quart bag and have been told by TSA that as long as they fit in the bag it is fine.
And yes the airlines does not allow you to drink them on the plane (but of course if your careful it wouldn't be a problem.
I like having them for the hotel and a quick drink to relax while waiting for the bags to be brought to the room.

That goes with another thread here.... and part of the reason we prefer to wheel our bags to the room. We can be unpacked and at the bar way before they show up with the bags. LOL! And, I would rather give the $5+ to the bartender.

Is it really worth risking the wrath of the TSA, legal trouble, or being thrown off of your flight to sneak a drink on the plane? A cocktail is only 5 or 6 bucks.

there's nothing wrong or illegal about traveling with bottles of alcohol in your carry on. the only potential issue is drinking them on the plane as that's not allowed per FAA regulations. if you want to chance it, you can try to sneak it out when the flight attendant isn't looking. i'm sure people do it all the time. what will actually happen if you're caught depends on the flight attendant i would presume. many might look the other way, others might tell you to stop and that's it and a select few might be sticklers and get you into real trouble about it. up to you whether the $6-7 per drink is worth that?

On Delta it's $7 for liquor and it's damn well worth the risk!!! There's a principle involved here.

Sorry, I'm with Sammasseur on this one - you did ask for opinions. I am assuming you already have an investment in this vacation, why risk it for a $5, $6, or $7 drink? I was on a flight once when a passenger was caught smoking in the bathroom. It was an ugly scene and they had the cops waiting on the passenger when we landed. Alex Baldwin was booted because he wouldn't turn off his electronics, I'm sure he never thought that could happen to him. Flight attendants have to take a ridiculous amount of unnecessary grief from passengers that don't see why the rules need apply to them. Give them a break - buy the drink, avoid the hassle and enjoy your vacation!

First off, there's no risk with TSA. The worst they are going to do is confiscate it, at which point you're out the dollar fifty that you paid for the booze. The odds of them taking it from you are pretty slim. I've forgotten to take liquids out of my carry-on before and never got stopped (they were small shampoo bottles, that kind of thing.)

As far as the flight attendants...if you're smart and you do it when they're busy at a different part of the plane, how will they catch you? Even if they do, if you are nice and just say you didn't know it was against the rules, you won't get in trouble...you just might be asked to put it away. If you're a jerk about it, well, who knows?

FAs who are working a flight to vegas kind of understand the mood of the plane.

can't remember the last time a cocktail was only $5. oh wait, yes i can, it was on a charter flight to Laughlin. any major airline will soak you $7 for a 1 oz. cocktail, which is reasonable considering how much the airport wants you to spend on a bottle of water. despicable.

i remember reading this debate long ago. the goody two shoes of the world will argue how important it is to have your liquor dispensed and served by an in-flight specialist. you'd think the argument was about blood transfusions, not whiskey in a bottle.

then there's the fear of incarceration for being busted pouring your own canadian whiskey into a Coke Zero.

others argued that they'd happily pay $7 for the privilege of having 1 oz. of alcohol while sitting in a human sardine can 30,000 feet in the air, if only the airline served their favorite brand of spirits. if you love your Karkov vodka, how can you be expected to choke down a shot of Grey Goose?

some argued that after paying $4 for a bottle of water while waiting for their delayed flight, having to pay an extra $15 for a seat that's not next to the bathroom door and shelling out $8 for a crappy in-flight cheeseburger, they're not going to get fleeced over one lousy ounce of alcohol, too.

it's a fascinating discussion. bottom line: you consume your own alcohol in the air, you are a criminal. period. in a world where nobody runs red lights, sneaks an extra person into their vegas hotel room or resells complimentary tickets that are marked "not for resale," why would you want to veer off the straight and narrow by consuming Admiral Nelson rum? don't do it, man, or next thing you know you'll be robbing banks.

Yes you are so right as I mentioned a while ago as far as TSA -IF IT FITS IT GOES.
What a person decides to do on the plane I really believe is that persons business and do agree with you about the flight attendants (I was in travel for 26 years so have flown a lot) so if a person wants to take a long shot chance of possibly having a problem well that is their right and I don't think anyone of us should pass judgement
