After passing the mysterious elevator off the casino floor at Harrah's so many times I finally made my first visit to the The Range. I found this to be a pleasant escape with good atmosphere and classic Vegas (Sinatra and the like) live music playing.

For a moment I had found a new escape for my Vegas trips. Good view, pleasant bartenders and staff. I was already looking forward to my next trip and stopping in.

Striking up a conversation with the couple at the bar next to me, telling them how I really enjoyed this place, the lady tells me her and her husband come every trip and then she added unfortunately that The Range is closing in November and will become another Ruth Chris.

Tell me this is simply a false rumor. Doesn't Vegas already have enough franchise steakhouses.

Ruth Chris closed their location on Flamingo a couple of years ago.

We were there last week and two bartender friends at the Range confirmed it. It is unfortunate because we have been going there for many years and will miss the atmosphere and seeing our friends.

Bummer! The Range was a definite on our list for our upcoming trip. I'm not sure what can replace it - not a Ruth Chris.

It's really too bad when casinos jump on the outsourcing bandwagon! :(

I know that Boyd (those brainchildren who blew up the Stardust) replaced some great independent coffee shops with TGI Fridays. This is a trend I hope does not continue! :(

Well, that sucks. We ate there for the first (and now I suppose only time) last January and loved it. Already planning to go back in December. I suppose not! Sigh. I am soooo tired of chain restaurants and their generic food. We try to avoid them as much as possible when we're on vacation. We want a unique experience and something different from what we can get at home or everywhere else.

And just call us steakhouse killers. For years we wanted to eat at the Isis at Luxor. We finally made it there one year, absolutely loved it ... and they promptly got rid of it.

Chalk us up in the "Regret" column for this kind of crap. We love The Range.

Oh, well. If everybody boycotts Ruth's Chris, it will be gone in a year and maybe they'll bring The Range back.

Well, I'm excited because I love Ruth Chris. In my opinion Ruth Chris still has a better steak than half the steak places I've eaten in Vegas.

The Vegas locations they had before, were gross, and in old strip malls, it would be cool to have one in a casino.

    Ain't gonna happen! :(

Look at the TGI Fridays in (fill in a Boyd casino) and they are doing a good business. Just as much as the perfectly-good independent coffee shops they replaced. :(

Ruth's Chris can be good, but when I'm in Las Vegas I want something "Vegas" and not something I can get anywhere.

    I know.

Nothing specific against the restaurant (Ruth's Chris) itself, just the idea of another standalone being replaced by something more chain-ish is sad.

Too bad, that was one of our favorite places also. We just had dinner there Monday.

I sure hope not. The Range is affordable , love the music and as others have said a bit old school Vegas. Ruth Chris is very expensive chain. It went under here in Naples because there is so many better places to eat.
