I know we've touched on this before, but I was in a nostalgic mood recently.

The 24/7 outdoor hot tubs at the Stardust.
The 'old-school' Vegas mini museum at the Trop.
The 'secret' SWA passageway to C-Gate security.
The sportsbook at the Stardust.
The free Lon Bronson show band at the Golden Nugget.

I liked hanging around that whole north section of the strip in the 1980's when it contained the Silver Slipper, Frontier, Stardust, Westward Ho, etc. There was even another Peppermill in a little strip mall that had a few slots and a food counter. You could buy 25 cent daiquiris, 14 cent nachos & cheese, and 39 cent chicken strips.

 

I started going to Las Vegas in 2003 with my then boyfriend, now hubster.
He was a really great tour guide and took me to all the Vegas sights
required for a newbie to see (over a few trips).

I had a fun time at Westward Ho when we visited on a whim one afternoon, just a few short months before it was torn down.
It was a bit of a dive but had a nice atmosphere and really friendly staff.
Didn't hurt that I won some money while playing there either.

I miss the Stardust and its sparkling sign.
I think it was one of the most beautiful of all Las Vegas casino signs.
Sad to see that go too.

I'll ask him to chime in as he is more of a Vegas veteran than I am.

Just asked the other half and he says he really misses "The Holy Cow"
pub on Las Vegas Blvd. and Sahara.
I guess it was quite the hangout for his group of fellow brewing-buddies
back in the late 90's.

I really miss the Westward Ho. I loved going between Slots A Fun and the Ho.
I too was able to walk away from there with money.
I also miss the "boom box Karaoke" they had there. It was a guy or girl, a guitar and a prerecorded music track. Man those acts were bad...

I don't know that I miss the casino but I liked seeing the Surf Buffet (or something like that) by the Boardwalk Hotel. Neat old wood roller coaster.

 

Well, it hasn't been gone for too long, but I miss Rosemary's. We used to plan at least one meal here each trip, usually two. They typically set the same table for us, and whenever she was working we'd get our favorite server (Katie). The beef carpaccio with maytag blue and the duck were a couple of our favorites. Such a shame they closed.

 

Don't laugh but I miss the ole Maxim. Was my local casino, with great paycheck cashing promotion, you got coupons for 2 cocktails and a spin on the wheel. Almost always won some food, sometimes shows, or just cold hard cash. Helps that I hit my first ever Royal Flush there and and shared a few beers with Evel Knievel a couple of times as he used to hang out at the bar quite a bit.

 

The Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton

Luxor the way it used to be with tons of Egyptian ambience/decor. The talking camels. The shops full of Egyptian themed items. It was as close as I'm ever going to get to going to Egypt ... I miss it. Used to look forward every year to going back.

Ditto the Excalibur with medieval decor

The Sahara -- had my first taste of king crab there on a dinner special on one of our first trips to Vegas

The old Aladdin -- loved the theming. Somewhere around here I still have one of the player's cards because it just looked cool.

As you can tell, I liked the themed hotels!

The teddy bears at Christmas at The Four Seasons. Glad I got to see that once, at least.

 

The Boardwalk - wasn't much inside, but it looked really neat from across the street. I even miss the Surf Barfet (yeah, it wasn't much, but an on-strip buffet for $1.99?!! - we ate there more than a few times)

 

I miss the themes of Luxor and Aladdin. I always stopped at the talking camels for a minute or two. Don't ask me why.

I also miss the staircase at the Bellagio. They removed it when they made the walkway to the spa tower. Every time I see it in Oceans 11, it makes me sad.

Probably the thing I miss the most though is getting comps at MGM resorts

 

I miss the free shows at Fitzgeralds and The Plaza. They weren't great, but they were entertaining and gave us a break from gambling.

The Suncoast had a free show with a Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin couple that did a great job.

I miss the great offers from The Stratosphere . They seem to think it's a palace now.

I miss the better coupon books that ACG and VMB used to put out.

I miss the casino vibe that was for gamblers, not night clubbers.

I miss full pay VP that was more plentiful than now.

I miss Slots Of Fun the way it used to be with cheap gambling and the craps table out front.

 

Yes! The Stardust was my favorite!

I also loved the red Dunes lit up at night.

From 1985-1990 we stayed 3X at Bob Stupak's Vegas World (The STRAT now) on these promotions where they'd give you match play $$ or something. My then hubby liked beer and we stopped in The Holy Cow.

Holy Cow

Silver City and the Mexican restaurant upstairs. Name escapes me at the moment, but we ate there every trip. Freshest salsa I've every had. They went smoke-free in the casino and it was wonderful, but in the end, they closed.

Stardust in a way, but we gave up on them near the end. I do miss the squirting fountains out front and the bar that was next to the pool area. My first experience with VP and I hit back to back 4oaks and thought it was the greatest thing ever.

They also had a great Mexican restaurant on the south end of the place, but that closed years before the entire placed shut down.

I didn't even know there were talking camels at Luxor and now I miss them because I missed them.

 

Terminal 2 at McCarran.

You could get through security in 5 minutes.

You could be off your plane with carryon and into your waiting Limo in 5 minutes.

 

Right. It was free there in the early 2000's. Now they're charging at The D.

That row of really weird VP machines by the sports book at the Stardust (best played while under the influence!).

Actually, I miss the Stardust, period! Boyd IDIOTS!
