I am curious. Especially if the casino is not in Vegas, but do you find Vegas trips or trips to casino's are no longer fun?

I am asking because I'm starting a new job at one of the new casino's we are getting here in Ohio and I'm afraid it will make Vegas less fun. On the positive note, our company owns the M Resort and my understanding is I can be a guest there for next to no cost.

i talk to dealers and pit bosses that i play with and most of them are gamblers that still love to play (albeit not at their properties of course). so i don't think it will make it any less fun for you.

Congrats on the new job. Take advantage of that M Resort perk.
    The rooms/suites are nicely appointed.
Lots of tasty dining offerings and plenty of table games/slots/vp.

I would imagine if you love Vegas for more than just the gambling, you'll continue to love it.

I think you will see things differently when you go back to Las Vegas, but that it doesn't mean you will have less fun.

And thats not just for people who work in casinos going to a casino or to a place like Las Vegas but pretty much for anybody who works any job going to a similar establishment.

Steve, I'm trilled to hear you got a job at one of the new casino's..... I assume the one in Columbus!!! That's great! :) I hope its works out well for you! After it opens and settles down, I'll have to make a trip to visit and meet you!

Sorry no advice from the 'worker' stand point. I offer wonder the same thing and wonder if it would be good or bad for me to get a job at the one up here in Cleveland! I think you'll still have your love of Vegas and still enjoy Vegas, even maybe more so now that you'll know the other side, even if its Ohio style.

    again, Congrats!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks for the input everyone.

Yes, it is the one in Columbus. We are owned by a different company than the one in Cleveland, the ones in Cleveland and Cinci are Ceasars so the Total rewards cards work, but im not hearing a lot of positive about Cleveland, especially the pay to park deal.

I started today at my our yet to be opened casino, I will be doing security. We have yet to make it onto the casino floor, that is tomorrows plan, gotta have training to be in the construction zone. Cant wait.

Hi Steve, I'm from central Ohio (Dublin) and I can't wait for the Columbus casino to open. Since your working security any chance you'll cut a fellow VMB member some slack if the pit boss and I get into it (dice not hitting the back wall, etc)? Don't rough me up too bad and keep the cuffs loose? Thanks in advance.

Lol no promises, maybe if you are nice enough. Honestly the company is all about treating everyone as if they are the stars we call it "red carpet treatment".

Oh, if the cuffs go on, beg for mercy those are the state agents even we won't know who they are unless we need to.

If you have not already, go to their Facebook and sign up for the A list and try to get an invite for the red carpet celebration or even to get to be one of those invited to the demo day 10/3. All profit goes to charity that day and it's a chance for the staff to actually work before grand opening, let's the company see what needs work.

That is awesome Steve! Congratulations on the new job!

I don't know if they have you all take CPR but please do. I was shocked when that guy had an MI in front of me that I was the only responder for quite some time.

Anyway I bet you will collect quite a few funny stories from the inside.

I was a dealer at two casinos in Washington. Neither held a candle to or spoiled my love of Vegas. State casinos tend to be solitary and can't duplicate the Vegas experience.

Don't mean to be too snarky but your experience in security will be totally different from that of a dealer and/or service worker.

    Good Luck to you.

Penn National Gaming, Right? I'm sure you will love it!
I forgot it opens 3 days after we are in Columbus for a concert! I'm sure we will make it sometime this winter.

I've actually been to Cleveland at least 10-12 times since it opened. Most times, I havent had to pay parking by earning points or staying after work and when I did, it was a whole HECK of a lot cheaper then what I was spending in gas to drive points east, west and southeast to play and its a heck of a lot nicer then 90% of the other places around. We're used to paying parking downtown when we come to dinner, its great now, we come to dinner, go play a bit, get free parking. So actually its a better situation for us. The nights we have gone on Saturdays its been packed every time. I've got nothing bad to say about the Cleveland Casino. Its been great!!!!

(I havent been trilled about the one in Toledo, but I wont bash it, I'm happy all points of Ohio are getting Casinos and giving everyone choices!) I would have hated all of them to be Ceasars/Harrahs branded. Thats I guess why I like Vegas variety.

Yes, it is a Penn National casino, Hollywood. From my understanding it wont be much different thant Toledo's, we are a bit bigger I do know. We were suppose to tour the casino floor today but due to a conflict of schdules we did not get our required OSHA training so we could not be in the construction zone. Next week if things go as planned we will be visiting our Toledo sister property.

Was told they are wanting to get everyone trained in CPR. We did learn the AED yesterday. Also, in the event of a medical emergency we actually have our own EMT's, from the ones that started with me on my shift, most were military medics and some are still active reserve medics in the Army.

The job won't spoil Vegas for you. You WILL look at it differently, but that's neither a plus or minus.
Good luck with the job, you're in for a whirlwind once you open. A new opening is a rush, expect nothing to go as planned. Just roll with it and keep your head about you, you'll be just fine!

I hear ya. 33 more days of life being relaxed, then the suit comes on a business opens. I am on second shift, Thurs-Mon so I am sure I will see my share of it all.

I've found that casinos outside Vegas can't really compare to the total package Vegas offers, so I doubt it will be ruined for you. I live in Powell, so I'm sure I will be frequenting the Columbus casino a bit!

First, congratulations on your new job.

I agree with most of the responses. If you enjoy Vegas for the adult time, adult environment, sunshine, great pool, clubs, liquor, dining, and vacation, you will still enjoy it. For free (I'm jealous).

I've heard great things about the M.

    To update ;
First thing, our casino is yet to open but everything inside is in full swing, machines are on and making noise, tables are set and all of that. I can say that in the past, machines always hot my attention with their flash and sounds, I ignore them now, don't think I will be suckered by the designs anymore, and things iv learned from our slot techs has me really thinking "why would I ever want a machine". Can't wait to see how things are upon opening. I can say iv never seen a casino security team as young as ours with most guys in their 20s, I'm 34 and at least on my shift, I'm the 3rd oldest.
