    Hi All -

What hotel is the best for comps for a low roller?

    - Stratosphere
    - Tropicana
    - Riviera

I like playing slots, and occasionally craps (prob a $10 player on a $5 min table).

What hotel would give me the best offers (in your opinion)? Or is there another property I'm not thinking about?

    Thanks!

FYI - I'm mostly interested in room comps / discounts and maybe the occasional food comp.

So, you have ruled out center strip?

where have you played in your 8 trips out there? Any comps?

Personally, I'd go with one of Boyd's properties just off strip, like Gold Coast or Orleans.

GC has been very generous in its comps to this low roller. Friendly staff, good drink service and clean, if smaller rooms.

I agree. Orleans is a good choice. Rooms are decent, lots of gaming variety. Food options are good too. They run shuttle to Bill's at center strip. Free rooms and inexpensive tournaments are pretty easy to score, and you can earn points at MSS, California and Fremont downtown, as well as a couple other off strip casinos.

So of the three, the riviera is better than The STRAT or trop?

I played the trop for the first time in March -- I went over there to do their $200 loss rebate deal. I played maybe 45 minutes of $1 VP at max credits ($5 a pull) so I maybe put $2000 coin in. I've gotten several free room and slot tourney offers just based on that very limited play. The room offers are weekend, but are specific dates coinciding with the tournaments.

I haven't used any of the offers and haven't tried to call to see if I could get other dates because I have much better offers elsewhere. But the offers they've given me are way better than what I would expect for such limited play.

I don't know anything about the rooms. The remodeled casino doesn't suck.

I had a similar experience to mike m235. I played blackjack for MAYBE an hour (roughly $100/hand, maybe a shade more) at Trop on Memorial Day 2011. And I still get quite a few offers for free rooms, BJ tournaments etc.

That said, from what I’ve read, both Riv and Strat seem to be making an effort to bring in gamblers. That fact, combined with the poor location of those two would lead me to assume that they’d be better for comps.

I'm a slot player, and on my first visit to the stratosphere I played for about 2 hours and lost a couple hundred. My first offer from them was 2 free nights in a suite,$175 FP and $50 food credit.I used the offer, and after that the offers droped to 2 free nights and $20 FP.Ive only been to Tropicana for a short visit, and received some offers for discounted rooms.

    Tropicana is best

    Hello,
I went from being a "High Roller" at MGM properties (for the past five years or so), to a "highish" roller at the Tropicana and the Stratosphere. I also did the $1000 thing at Riveria (I understand that has ended). Anyway, Tropicana is wonderful if you are able to get a host. I actually called and requested a host after one visit and maybe $1000 of play. They gave me one and I have been very happy ever since. They always give me a suite for three or four nights, $280 in freeplay and (get this) $800 in food comp. Yes, I like to eat and they have that right. This does not include the many show tickets that Trop has given me (Gladys Knight 4X (she is gone now though)), Dancing with the Stars 2X and the Comedy Club whenever I want. Of course, I upped my play to around $4000 per visit.
I also have a very nice host at the Stratosphere. But there I can only get the odd Top of the World food comp ($250) or tickets to Frankie Morino for free. Their automatic comp system is very good at the Strat. The rooms are also much nicer at the Tropicana as well as the pool. So, my vote is for the Tropicana. (I do not care for the Riveria -- it has never truly been updated).

I would throw out Tropicana from the list even with the above reviews. I just don't think you will see decent offers. They will comp you the same amount as the others, but the rooms at Trop cost more than a room at either of the other 2. So while you may get 2 free nights at Riviera, that might only be 50% off at Tropicana. Obviously the rooms are nicer at Tropicana though.

I would add in all the Caesars properties as well. If you are mostly slots, you will probably get free/cheap rooms at IP and on the slower weeks maybe even places like Harrahs, Ballys, Flamingo.

Another option if you are ok with staying downtown. Boyd would be decent as well and may even rate your craps play. Main Street Station and California are the 2 downtown with that company. They also have The Orleans slightly off strip and a few others around Vegas.

The main reason I would suggest CET is that it allows you to play at any of the 7? casinos. At all the 3 you mentioned, you are basically stuck playing at only that casino. Of course you can play elsewhere, but it won't count toward your home casino comps.

I would choose CET > Boyd > Strat > Riviera.

As mentioned here are the Boyd casinos Gold Coast, Orleans, Calif. Main Street, Sam's Town, Fremont, and Suncoast. Comps are good.

The Trop has a great location compared to the other two, but if you are strictly looking at where you may receive the most comps, I would consider the others. Due to their location they really have to put out some good offers to get people to stay there vs the rest of the strip. The Riviera has been very aggressive lately trying to pull in customers, but it is in desperate need of a thorough remodel.

I would still recommend the Tropicana. They have remodeled their entire property, rooms, casino, pool and common areas. They stand on all 17's including soft 17, and double on any two cards, at their $25 tables inside the high limit room. $5 tables are easily found in the regular casino but they hit on 17 there. You also have some very good properties around it, so if you want to do some casino hopping just for a change of scenery, you can walk it. This will give you a lot of options for various restaurants as well.

They have one $25 table and one $50 table plus the higher denominations. They also have $1 and $2 slots. Like anywhere else, they will raise the low limit if they really get busy.

That's nice. I'm going to hit it up this weekend. $25 or $50 doesn't matter to me because my play of choice is two hands of $50 each. Will be nice to get high limit service and rules while playing exactly what I want to play.

Did they change this recently? Last year, the only S17 tables were in the HL room. July's CBJN says they start at $50. (I only saw $100 last year.)
