    I know why I remember........
only because I was standing next to a guy who
    answered his phone ---
It was his mother on the phone and she was VERY upset.
He said to me "Elvis has died !"
Honestly, it didn't upset me.......I had heard the stories about Elvis' lifestyle.
and I mentioned to him "Why is your mother so upset ?"
    He explained :
"You have to understand, my mother has always lived in Memphis -
and you don't realize how important + loved Elvis is down there.
He is everyone's favorite. He is like a God, in Memphis."
    .
So, do you remember hearing the news ?

I was at work and quite harried at the time. A co-worker told me and I remember just kind of brushing him off since I was not having a good day.

Nope, not a clue on Elvis. I can tell you exactly what I was doing when Kennedy was shot or the Challenger blew up, but Elvis, ehh.

I was at Astroworld in Houston Texas!!! Sitting in a motel room wondering why my Mom was boo hooing her head off and wanting to head to the park. Took her an hour to get it together enough so we could go.

I was 5 years old, sitting in the back of our 1972 Oldsmobile. My mother and "aunt" were in the front seat (friend of my mother's and my father's cousin's wife). My mother had pulled into a full serve gas station and left the car radio on. The dj yanked the record he had been playing to give the news. You see the footage of the screaming teenage girls in 1953-54, that's my mother's age group. They both cried pretty good. I remember when books started coming out about Elvis, the lifestyle and whatnot, she didn't want to the read them. I wonder what he could have done if he had been able to drop the Memphis Mafia, the drugs and the Colonel.

I was on a family trip in a motor home in Reno (staying at Uncles house). The trip went from Minneapolis through Yellowstone to Seattle, Reno, LA (Disney), Vegas and back home.

I was spending the night at a friends house and we were camping out in the back yard when it started to rain - so we went back in the house and turned the radio on, and heard the news. I was 14.

Kennedy shot = 4th grade, they brought us in from recess.
    .
    With the Elvis thing --
I just hated all the overhype of scandal media that
just never ended, well after his death.:Þ

If Elvis were still alive, he'd be dead by now.
